Bonus Epilogue

“But what if someone’s out there?” I whisper.
“No one is out there,” Beckett replies, unzipping the cover over the screen window.
“But how do you know?” I glance past him towards the dark forest.
Beckett shrugs as he drags the zipper the rest of the way down, making one side of the tent see-through to the outdoors. “I just know.”
“You can’t possibly know!” My tone is still quiet.
Beckett stops what he’s doing and slowly turns his head to look at me, “Babe, why are you whispering?”
Sitting back on the little inflatable mattress I throw my hands up, “Because I don’t want anyone to hear me!” Then I gesture to the open tent window. “And now anyone could just look right in and see us naked!” I hiss.
We’re still fully clothed, but we both know it’s only a matter of time.
He glances outside, taking in the darkness for himself. “If we don’t open these, we’ll pass out from heatstroke long before any voyeur is able to film and sell our sex-tape to the tabloids.”
This isn’t our first time camping since that trip back in the spring, but it is the first time we’ve gone since the weather turned this hot and sticky. And the fact that I’m already starting to sweat proves that we need the fresh air .
But I still feel weird thinking someone might’ve set up their tent nearby without us knowing, and they’ll unwittingly walk by on their way to the bathroom only to get an eyeful of something they didn’t ask for.
I’m busy imagining the worst when my handsome fiance sighs, “Would you like me to take a walk around the campsite to prove that it’s empty?”
I don’t even hesitate. “Yes, please.”
I’m sure he was only offering to be nice, but the fact that he doesn’t complain makes me love him even more.
“Alright, Smoky, I’ll make you a deal.”
I’m already nodding, agreeing before he lays out the stipulation.
“I’ll go check the perimeter, while you open the other flaps and get naked.”
I snicker at the word flaps but keep nodding my head.
As Beckett climbs out of the tent, I let my gaze linger on his ass for a moment before I scoot over to unzip the next window.
I’m securing the flap when I hear my phone buzz.
With the full effects of the cross breeze cooling the interior of the tent, I crawl back towards my bag to check my texts.
We’re trying to have a romantic and rustic evening, but Maddie’s on a date tonight, for the first time in forever, and I told her to keep me updated. And I don’t want to miss her texts in case she’s asking for a fake emergency call so she can bail.
Opening my messages, instead of seeing a plea for help, I’m greeted with a slightly blurry photo of an expensive looking black car.
“Damn, girl,” I murmur to myself.
I don’t know much about cars, but good for Maddie that her date drives something nice. And smart of Maddie to include the license plate in the photo.
He must be driving her home. Maybe she’ll even get some dick tonight.
Then I see she sent a photo a little while ago of the guy’s drivers license. I click on it, zooming in.
“Damn, girl!” This time my voice is louder, my eyes widening at her date’s mugshot. He’s fucking hot.
“I’m starting to feel jealous, and that doesn’t bode well for you.” Beckett’s voice next to my ear startles a scream out of me.
He tsks, grabbing the phone from my hands and tossing it into the corner of the tent.
“So distracted, you didn’t even hear me coming.” Teeth drag down the side of my neck and despite the heat, a shiver rolls through my body.
“Is the c-coast clear?” I stammer, rotating my body towards Beckett.
“Completely.” He grips my shoulders and topples us over, trapping me beneath him. “No one out there to hear you coming either.”
THE END…
