Chapter 55 Reese

Ever since the rodeo, the trainees have been on their toes.

Their spirits are high, most of them are always smiling and willing to lend a hand for whatever’s needed.

The past few weeks have been a blur. I’ve talked to Goldie everyday, whether it’s a phone call when we have the time to spare, or a simple good morning and goodnight text.

We’ve been busy and our schedules haven’t worked out in order to see each other.

She’s been swamped planning the carnival, and now almost everything is scheduled and booked. With donations pouring in for a silent auction, and making sure they have enough desserts baked and frozen for selling, she’s had her hands full. Though, we do have plans for this weekend.

I’m hopeful that they pan out. She’s been baking everyday, trying new things for the carnival bake sale.

I miss her.

My day’s pretty slack, and with Mason, Lin, and the other trainers, the ranch is in good hands so I plan on surprising Goldie and spending some time with her.

Double checking with Mason, I head out, driving straight to the diner. She’s hustling as usual with Briar and Sydney. They all work together, like a well oiled machine.

When she sees me she smiles, licks her bottom lip, and meets me at the door. Her kiss is a drug and I’m one hell of an addict.

“I didn’t think I’d see you until Friday, Old Man.”

She’s breathless, no doubt busy with all the last minute travelers. With the final few events coming to town I’m sure they’ve been packed day-in and day-out.

“I couldn’t wait,” I wink, walking inside with her and taking a seat at the bar. “I’m free all day.”

“Give me twenty minutes to help the girls with the rush and I’ll see if I can sneak away.”

We spent the whole day together after stopping at her place when she was done at the diner. Briar and Sydney were more than happy to let her go. Hell, they practically kicked her out the door and into my arms.

We went to a movie, ate some good food neither of us had to make, and then settled at my place on the porch to watch the sun go down.

I understand how much this event is taking out of her, and now with her here, I don’t want to let her go back.

“I’m gonna go grab us a couple glasses of sweet tea, wait here.” When I come back out and set the drinks down she has a far off look on her face.

“With the carnival this weekend, would it be okay if I stayed here with you ‘till then?” She asks, twisting her lips looking up at me.

“Are you really askin’ me if I’m okay with you living with me for a week?” I scoff, walking down the steps and scooping her up to nuzzle her neck. “I’d move you in tomorrow if you wanted.”

Catching what I said, I pause, lifting slowly to meet her gaze. Her green eyes are wide, mouth parted.

“I mean it,” I tell her, squeezing her body to mine.

“I believe you,” she breathes, lips spreading in a smile that stretches from ear to ear. “And I just might take you up on it.”

Spinning her around, I let her down on her feet and watch while she goes to my truck.

“What are you doin’?” I ask, grabbing after her.

She laughs and pulls out a carry-on sized suitcase. “I came prepared.”
