Chapter 62 Lucy
Conversation bounces around, but I can’t keep up, my teeth chatter, clacking together so forcefully it’s all I can hear. My eyes work just fine though, and I see the stranger from the diner, the one who seemed like he didn’t quite belong.
Warm towels are pressed against my skin, and Mawmaw’s hands gently cup my cheeks. “Lucy Loo,” she says, “Help is comin’ alright.”
“…she’d be long gone by now,” the stranger says. He’s tall, like Reese, his hair’s mostly silver shot through with black.
He looks familiar somehow…
“How the hell did you even know about Brent?” Reese asks, his voice is growly as he steps up to the man.
The man looks away, and Reese snarls, “Unbelievable. He called you didn’t he? Found wherever the fuck you’ve been, dug you out of obscurity, and decided a woman beatin’ piece of shit could help him with his plan.”
With a heavy sigh the stranger holds out his hands, “I know what I put you and your mother through was wrong, Reese.” His shoulders slump and my eyes become heavy. “I only want to try and make t h i n g s…”
