Chapter 22
brANDON
Seeing Lexi with that guy in the cafeteria shouldn’t have set me off, but it did.
When she touched his arm and he asked her out, it made me want to throw her over my shoulder and storm out of the hospital with her.
I was actually surprised that I didn’t drop that guy.
Although it wasn’t his really fault. It was mine.
This thing with Lexi had started as one thing but had developed into something else altogether.
Well, at least for me it had. Despite what she said in that on-call room, I knew better. She wasn’t mine. Yet.
Me
Come over after work. We’ve got some unfinished business.
It felt so weird to text that, even though I was trying to play it cool. I didn’t want whatever this was. I wanted more.
Lexi
We’ll see.
She was infuriating. So aloof. So unlike anyone I’d ever been with.
Me
We’ll see? I don’t think so, Sweetheart. I will see you later. You can either come to my place after work, or I’ll show up at yours. It’s your choice.
Text bubbles appeared and disappeared. She was probably deciding whether or not to be a smart ass.
Lexi
Fine.
Me
Good girl.
