Chapter 4

Sione

Hunter isn’t pregnant.

It’s not physically possible.

I’ve had her menstrual cycles memorized for years.

Her cycles are synced with that of the moon.

I know when she ovulates.

I know when she bleeds.

I know exactly when she would be considered fertile.

She is on day one of the follicular phase now.

She hasn’t even ovulated.

There’s nothing to fertilize.

Yet I fear the rest of this group doesn’t understand that. Not if the charged energy and intense animosity vibrating amongst them as we trudge toward the waiting car is any indication.

The Brit must have tampered with the lab results.

And clearly he didn’t fill anyone in before he broke the news.

The Brit asked us to trust him.

He assured us he had a plan. That he had it handled.

But I can’t begin to understand how he thought that this end, the palpable pain and heartbreak, could possibly justify the means.

It’s cruel, knowing that Hunter has been pregnant before.

Knowing that for a very short time, she carried a beautiful soul in her womb.

A soul that was inspired by love and created from passion.

Kabir must have known that she and Greedy created life once before. That the soul of their baby moved on from this world before she left for London.

How he could drop a bomb so devastating to both Greedy and Hunter is beyond me.

His actions have amplified her pain and weaponized their collective heartache.

I am devastated for the both of them.

Levi’s energy is off, too. He’s agitated, panicky, and reeling. Rightfully so. Based on that encounter and his reaction, he assumes he is the father of a child that doesn’t exist.

As we approach the vehicle, Gerald opens the door for Hunter. I position myself so I am directly behind her, first with a hand on her back, then her hip as she climbs in. She takes the bench seat in the third row, and I slide in beside her, effortlessly moving her body toward the window so I’m positioned in the middle, where I can protect her energy most successfully. She’s suffering enough without factoring in the other auras in our proximity.

She needs space.

She deserves peace.

Most importantly, she requires clarity. She needs to know why the hell the Brit thought that with all his schemes and connections, this was the best way forward.

Kabir has some explaining to do.

And not just to Hunter.
