12. Katniss

Katniss

I , Katniss Raven Roland, am the girlfriend and child’s mother of Asher Kane Wilson. Never in a million years would I think that I would be those things to the player that I had obsessed over for years. I knew everything about this man from a football point of view. Now I know so much more. The universe was a funny but sometimes pleasant heifer.

Since we chose to make things official, we had been out and about in these Charlotte streets. Sometimes we were out with Ashtan and other times we were not. The blogs had a field day when the pictures were posted on Asher’s page from Ashtan’s first birthday. The birthday party was nothing out of the norm for the blogs to report on. It was the picture of Asher behind me with his arms wrapped around me and his lips on my neck. The caption was the icing on the cake: My lil one.

Oh, and the sex! Damn. My man…Our sex was nasty—sexy. After we had sex for the first time, again, I went to the doctor to ensure my birth control was top notch. I did not want another baby right now. Also, when Asher made it a point to let me know that he would not pull out at any time, I knew pregnancy prevention was on me. I let him know that another baby would not be ejected from this vagina until my last name was changed.

Me, Daisy, and Tiara were served with the documents to let us know that Penny’s ho ass planned to move forward with the charges against us. That bitch made my ass itch. I had to block her on social media because her ass continued to comment on my page and Asher’s. When the lil one picture was posted, you would have thought that she lost her damn mind. I couldn’t believe that she was married.

Outside of the social media bullshit, it had been pretty mellow until today. I stood there frozen as I gawked at my SUV with an agaped mouth. My SUV was ruined. I didn’t have the words to formulate what I felt, but the tear that fell told it all. I worked so hard to get my SUV when I found out I was pregnant with Ashtan.

“Okay, so somebody wants to die,” Daisy said from beside me. “Call Asher, and I’ll call the cops. These bitches have lost their fucking minds.”

My phone was already in my hands. I lifted it to long press the number two on the keypad screen. I always had at least one earbud in my ear. He answered on the second ring. “What’s up, Fat-fat?”

“Someone messed my car up,” I said with no real emotion. It didn’t make sense to me that someone would do this in the parking garage of a hospital. It made even less sense that no one saw it.

There was stirring on the other end. “What da fuck you say, Fat? Who car mess up? Yours?” Once I confirmed that it was mine, he asked me where I was before he told me that he was on the way.

“Hey, the police said we should go back inside, because we don’t know if whoever did this is still out here.” I heard Daisy, but I was in a daze. When she grabbed my hand, I came out of it. “Come on, best friend. Your car can be replaced.” I let her guide me into the building. “I’ll text Asher to tell him where we are.”

I was not sure how long it was until Asher showed up, but I was vexed that he showed up before the damn cops. I guess a vandalized car wasn’t a high priority.

“Baby, where you at?” I heard him before I saw him. The nurses that were around stopped just to get a glimpse of him. Even with the current circumstances, I couldn’t stop myself from admiring my man. “You okay?” he asked as soon as he got into my personal space.

“Why would someone mess my car up, Asher?” Tears laced my eyes. “I don’t bother anyone. I just go to work, take care of my baby, and love you.” My eyelids expanded at my heart speaking its truth out loud. “I mean—”

My words were cut off by his lips on mine. When he pulled back, his eyes had a sparkle. “I love you too, Fat-fat.” The police announced themselves. Asher turned around to face them. “How I getcha before y’all?”

One of the two cops’ eyes were glued on Asher. She was starstruck. If this woman professes her dying fandom for my man right now, I might snap. “Mr. Wilson, had we known it was you—”

“Hol up, hol up! So, you tryin to tell me dat if e been me y’all woulda been here?” Asher inquired with bass in his voice. “Dat shit real fuck up. Y’all wonder why folk don’t trust twelve.”

The other officer who didn’t speak jaw tightened before he glowered at his partner. “That is not at all what she is saying, Mr. Wilson. We take all crime seriously regardless of who the victim is,” he proclaimed while his eyes were still on his hot in the coochie partner.

“Yes, yes! I’m so sorry,” Officer Spencer said. Her face was tomato red. She pulled out a little note pad, opened it, then read something off a page. “Who is Miss Katniss Roland?”

Finally on my feet, I raised my hand. “That’s me.” She asked me what happened. My eyelids blinked several times without words leaving my mouth. “My car was vandalized,” I confirmed after a minute of staring at this ditzy, getting on my nerves broad.

She must have felt my attitude. “Miss Roland, these questions are standard. I understand your frustration. It’s easier if you cooperate so that we can get to the bottom of this.”

From behind her, Daisy, said, “No, it would be easier if you get off Asher’s dick and really do your job, Miss if we would have known face ass.” She managed to say all of that with a genuine smile plastered on her face. When Officer Spencer spun around to face her, Daisy’s eyebrow rose toward her hairline in slow damn motion. “Shouldn’t you be reviewing the cameras in the parking lot? There are working cameras.”

The other officer, Officer Taylor, stepped forward. “Yes, that is where we are going to head next. Let us take a minute to get all of your information, Miss Roland, for the report.”

I gave them all of the information that they asked for. It wasn’t until after I was done that I noticed Zane was here also. He stood off to the side, but his stare was stuck. There was something in his eyes that made my heart ache. “Hey, Zane.”

“What’s up, Kat?” he said slightly dejectedly. “I’m sorry this happened to you.” His head turned to Daisy. “What’s up, Daisy?” The tension was thick.

Daisy cut her eye over to him. “Zane.” That was all she gave him. “Kat, you ready to go?”

“What about my car?” I asked. “What am I going to do about my car? I have work, day care, and all this other stuff.” Not having a car would hinder my movement. I didn’t like that at all.

Asher wrapped his arm around my waist. “Stop playin, Fat-fat. You ca use one of my whips until you get a new one.” He kissed my temple before his lips went to my ear. “Come on so I ca make you feel better before we go get my boy.”

Ashtan was at my parents’ house. My feelings may have been all over the place with what happened, but best believe that my pussy was not. I needed something to make me feel better. Asher always knew how to make me feel better.

“Asher, yes! Just like that!” My moan was low but audible. I was bent over my boyfriend’s couch with his hand around my neck, him standing behind me, and his dick in my ass. “I’m about to cum, baby.”

His stroke speed increased. “Cum fa me, Fat. They got my baby fuck up. Let dis dick relieve dat stress.”

“Ah! Oh my God!” The way my body shivered caused my eyes to roll back. “I’m gonna pass out.” That’s how it felt. A bitch was lightheaded.

Asher’s strokes didn’t let up. “You bet not pass out, Fat. Where you want this nut? In ya ass, mout, or pussy?” I loved it when he asked me where I wanted it.

“My ass, baby! Cum in my ass!” Seconds after I gave him the directive, I felt his warm nut enter my ass.

“Fuck!” His dick completely filled me up and hit the bottom. He smacked my ass. “Ole trifecta ass bitch.” I loved it when he called me a bitch when he was in my holes. Smack! “You feel betta, baby?”

A head nod was all I could muster in the moment of pleasure. When he pulled out of me, without my permission, another orgasm slammed my body. My knees weakened, but Asher caught me. He lifted me bridal style in his arms. His kiss to my temple after I laid my head on his shoulder acted like a sleeping pill.

“Come on. I’ma call ya mama and tell ha to keep Ashtan tonight,” he told me while he carried me to his bedroom. After he sat me on his bed, he pulled my scrub top over my head. He left me there to start the shower. Who would have thought that he could be such an attentive man? Before I knew it, we were in the shower, and he washed my body. I sat on the shower bench until he finished washing himself.

He didn’t stop there. He moisturized my body, put one of his wife beaters on me, and put me to bed. “I love you, Fat-fat,” he assured me before he tucked me in.

“I love you too, Asher.” Today had been a day. My car got messed up. I confessed my love to Asher out loud, and I got some miraculous dick. Asher’s love being on the same page as mine felt amazing. I wasn’t sure if this counted as a bad or good day. It for sure felt lovely.

A Short Time Later…

Penny had to be the stupidest female that I never wanted to know. Why would she file charges against me only to come into a parking garage that had cameras to vandalize my damn car? When the police reached out to me earlier today to let me know that they found the culprit, you could have bought me with a half a penny when they said it was Penny Pages. No pun intended.

When we watched the video surveillance, she would bust my windows and slash my tires when no one was there so she didn’t risk anyone hearing the glass break. The ho ducked between cars like a crackhead when people did come. The fact that the parking garage did not have proper lighting worked in her favor. The dumb bitch didn’t even wear a mask. Whore was spray painted on my driver’s side. Slut bucket was spray painted on the passenger. For the finale, she put fatso on the hood. Fatso! How old are we?

Asher expressed his confusion on how she was able to do that if security was watching or supposed to be watching the cameras. He chuckled when we were told that the security guard was paid fifteen hundred dollars to look the other damn way. It was like wow! Now she had a class one misdemeanor vandalism charge because the damage was worth more than two hundred dollars. Dumb bitch! I’d rather my assault charge than a weak ass vandalism charge.

“Dat gal need her head buss in,” Mama Lina fussed. “She need ta be worry bout her husband or lack der of now.” She was livid when she found out about what Penny did.

My mother chortled. “She really does. I promise these young kids are crazy.”

Me, Daisy, Zane, Tiara, and my parents were at Mama Lina’s house for dinner. I loved that my parents and Asher’s parents were fostering a relationship. They were all pleased when we made the announcement that we were in a committed relationship.

“Mama, that lady is not young. She’s thirty-seven years old.” I revealed. That was a little tidbit that I found out.

Mama Lina’s neck snapped toward the back door where Asher, Zane, my daddy, and Pop Collin were at. Tiara busted out laughing. She knew her mother well. Without moving from her place at the table in the kitchen that we all sat at, she yelled out for Asher. People from Charleston are loud. I wasn’t surprised at all that he heard her and came inside.

“Dang, Mama. You callin me like da law,” he said with a squished face. He was still handsome with his locs sitting atop his head. “What up?”

She shifted in her seat to face him. “So dat lady you been ta ride was ole? Boy, why you outcha riding women who get social security statements?” Wait, what?

He glared at her, then me, then over his shoulder at Zane. He knew that I was the one that told her Penny’s age. When I found out, I side-eyed him for a moment. “Mama, vagina is ageless.”

“E ageless until e dry up on ya lil peen and give ya rug burn,” she callously said. We all sat there still before the room erupted into laughter. Why was she like this?

Pop Collin went over and kissed Mama Lina on the forehead. “Baby, thirty-seven is not old. You fifty-four.”

Her eyes tightened to the point that I thought they were closed. “Da fuck you tryin to say, Collin? I know I got age on me. Don’t get box off in here before you don’t get no cat whether e dry or leakin.”

“Mama! You runnin out, man!” Tiara exclaimed. All of the younger people in the room had the screw face at her words. Pop Collin, my daddy, and mama thought it was funny. “Yeah, y’all stay in here. Da younga people ga go on da deck. Ain’t nobody wanna hear bout parental body parts.”

I couldn’t stop laughing. Asher extended his hands to pull me up from my seat. “Come on, goofy.” His arms wrapped around me.

Ashtan and Ashan were asleep in the pack and play. Both of them could sleep through a hurricane. We left our parents in the house and went to the deck. Zane and Daisy were still on their good bullshit. I wished they would get it together because it was blatantly obvious that they wanted each other. Let me see something. “Daisy, has Mason reached back out to you?”

Yeah, I’m being messy. Since Zane crashed her date, Mason had been lowkey harassing her. She’d blocked him, but he still found ways to reach out. I wasn’t supposed to say anything but fuck that. I’d rather Zane and Asher know so they could check his ass if needed. No matter what happened between her and Zane, I knew he would never let anyone hurt her.

“Um, yeah, he has,” she admitted. She rocked in her seat with her cup in her hand. “I…I think I’m just going to change my number. He can’t get into y’all building, so I feel better about that.” She didn’t want to admit that he rattled her, but when she rolled up to my condo with three suitcases to stay for a little bit, I knew something was up.

Zane’s head sloped to the left then right. He moved to the front of his seat. “What you mean he can’t get into our building, Daisy? That nigga following you or something?” Yahtzee!

“No, I mean, not really.” Her answer was barely audible. “He’s come to my job a time or two and my parents’ house, but my daddy threatened to shoot him.”

Now Asher sat on the edge of his seat. “Why da fuck you jus now sayin’ somethin? Dat man ain’t got time to be runnin’ behind nobody. E game weak as fuck and dey talkin bout tradin ‘m.”

Daisy took a sip of her drink. “It’s not a big deal. I’m staying with Katniss for a little while.”

“The fuck do you mean it’s not a big deal, Daisy? You sound stupid as hell.” Zane was mad. That vein in the side of his neck protruded out.

Daisy snickered, then said, “I’m a ho and stupid now. Whew, I’m on a roll.” She said it as if she was speaking more to herself than any of us.

Now it was Zane that snickered. He put his head down. His fingers massaged his temples. “Well, hos need protection too.”

“Aye, my boy, you doin too much.” Asher reprimanded. With creases in his forehead were telling. “Now, y’all two need to stop da bullshit. We know, our mamas and daddies know, and y’all know dat y’all like each otha. Get ova y’all damn selves.”

The deck was quiet. My phone notification alert broke through the silence. I picked it up from where it sat on the couch beside me. My head drew back when I saw that it was an email from The Milky Tea. The fuck!

Hey Katniss,

This is Malessa from Milky Tea. Look, I’m going to get straight to it. I know that as a gossip columnist, I am not liked by many. That is alright because gossip makes the world go around and the bank accounts fat. Although I tell the gossip in the streets of Charlotte, there are some lines that I will not cross. Yesterday, I got some information in my inbox that I think you should know about.

There are two reasons that I refuse to pay for this information and report it. One: I don’t believe it’s true and two: it’s about your son. The source claims that you neglect your son. You send him to day care dirty and hungry. They also claim that they’ve seen bruises on him. Please see attached emails and pictures that were attached to said email.

This usually goes against my protocol. However, considering the circumstances, I think you need to know who the source is. The information came from a Charia Edmond that works at the day care that your son attends.

With concern,

Malessa Warner

I opened the pictures immediately. I couldn’t believe what I saw. My baby was in dirty clothes that I’d never seen. They weren’t even his clothes. There was stuff on his face, and he looked to be crying.

“Katniss!” I jumped to Asher yelling my name. When I focused on him, he grabbed my face. “What’s wrong?”

Everyone’s faces held concern. I didn’t realize I was crying until Asher wiped my tears away. I handed him my phone without saying anything.

He took my phone from my hand, then looked down at it. Daisy moved on the other side of me as Asher read in silence. “What da fuck?” A venomous laugh escaped him. “I’m going to kill dat bitch.”
