28. Secret Show

People had figured out pretty quickly that something was happening at Captain’s tonight.
We stayed hidden in the back until Dave and Marlowe came to tell us it was almost showtime.
Dave walked out onto the stage and began announcing us.
When I looked over, Bunny had pulled Marlowe against his chest and was kissing her.
“Welcome to the stage, Solace!” I smacked Bunny on the arm.
“Bye, groupie.” He said to Marlowe as I winked at her and we went out on stage.
We played the entire set perfectly. Marlowe had worked her way out into the crowd and stood right in front of Bunny, just like she did during practices. They teased each other back and forth, and I watched every second of it with a smile on my face.
Naomi met up with Marlowe at one point, and they both sang and jumped around to our songs. It was the most fun I had playing a show in a long time.
Once we wrapped up, we walked backstage to find Marlowe and Naomi standing back there waiting for us. We all celebrated high on the adrenaline.
“Party at our place?” I asked the group, and everyone agreed.
“The new girls are closing, but Naomi and I have to finish up here. We’ll be there after.” Marlowe kissed Dexter and me before going back to the bar with Naomi.
As we exited the backstage area, people ran over to us asking for pictures. We gathered together and smiled for a few. Chris and Rich wandered off to spread the word about the party to a few people before leaving. Bunny and I walked right out the front door.
People were at our house within the hour. I had started a fire, and Bunny turned on music. He had changed the CDs in the stereo again, more of Marlowe’s favorites played now too.
When Marlowe and Naomi arrived, they had changed out of their Captain’s shirts into more comfortable outfits.
Naomi wore shorts and a Harley-Davidson t-shirt.
Marlowe had kept her low-rise cargos on, but she now wore an oversized band t-shirt that she had cut up.
It was cropped and cut wide at her collar.
She was perfect. Running over to her, I picked her up and kissed her.
“Jesus,” Naomi said, rolling her eyes.
Marlowe shoved her friend when I sat her back down on her feet.
“See you guys outside.” I smacked Marlowe’s ass as I walked by.
Gathering a few beers from the fridge, I walked back outside to find everyone. Marlowe sat in Bunny’s lap in his chair by the fire pit, talking to Chris. Rich and Naomi were playing with Dojo. I carried the beers over to Bunny and Marlowe, and they thanked me.
“Tonight really was great, guys.” She took a sip of the beer.
Bunny kissed her cheek. “Thanks, groupie.”
As we continued talking about the show, Rich and Naomi joined the conversation. People walked over now and then to give us more drinks, tell us “great show,” or that they couldn’t wait for tomorrow. We thanked them, and it boosted our egos without a doubt.
“I’ll be right back.” Marlowe stood up and sat back down in Bunny’s chair.
We all continued talking when all of a sudden Marlowe chimed in. “Bunny is taking forever.” She lit a cigarette and looked over to the back door.
He was taking a while. Glancing over at the back door, I put my hand on her leg. “I’ll go find him.”
Walking into the house, a group of people sat and watched a movie on TV, but there weren’t that many people in here.
Bunny wasn’t sitting there with them, and he wasn’t in the kitchen.
Quickly, I glanced in the garage, but it was empty.
Knocking on the door to the bathroom, I heard nothing.
When I turned the knob, the light was on, but the room was empty.
His bedroom was the next place to look. There was no light coming out from under the door.
I swung the door open to find Nicki on top of Bunny on the bed. He kept trying to push her off, but his movements were lazy and had little force behind them. “Nicki, no. Stop.” He kept saying. “Get off of me.” Running into the room I pulled Nicki off of Bunny, and she started screaming.
“What are you doing?” She yelled from the floor. I had thrown her down when I threw myself at Bunny to check on him. People crowded at the doorway.
“Someone go get Marlowe now!” I yelled to the crowd, and they scattered.
Moments later, Mar pushed her way into the room to find Nicki on the floor screaming at me.
“What the fuck are you doing here?” Leaning down, she picked her up by her shirt and started shoving her out of the room.
The crowd followed her out thankfully. I focused my attention on Bunny, his breathing still panicked.
Holding Bunny close to my chest, he squeezed me back.
