CHAPTER 27
Aelys
Music echoes through the factions’ common room of the main building where the party is taking place. Students dance beneath the multicolored flashes of light, the smell of alcohol and cigarettes is overwhelming.
Matt puts his arm around my waist and leads me to the sofas in the corner of the room where our friends are already chatting happily, each with a drink in hand.
I sit next to Enzo, leaving the other side free for my fiancé, but he kisses me on the forehead and tells me he'll get us drinks.
I watch him walk off to the drinks table before turning back to our friends.
“You are magnificent, beautiful!” Enzo smiles broadly as he raises his glass.
“Thanks. You're not bad either,” I laugh.
I turn my attention to the crowd of dancing students, spotting a few fairies and shifters among the mass of wizards. I recognize the Law twins, but my eyes darken when I see the trio made of Dawson and his friends.
They already seem a little drunk, I'm beginning to wonder if I can accomplish part of my task tonight.
After following them for a few weeks, I quickly realized that it would be difficult for me to isolate Jones or Law in order to kill them, as the Master demanded.
This evening might be the opportunity to get rid of one of them, since practically the entire student body is too drunk to notice anything.
All I have to do is slip the powerful poison called polonium into a glass and make sure one of them consumes it.
I'm pulled out of my thoughts when a red cup is placed in front of me and I watch Mattheo sit down next to me with a small smirk on his perfect face.
I take the glass, thanking him, and begin sipping the vodka. I need to stay at least a little sober if I'm going to accomplish my goal tonight.
Oh, one glass can't hurt after all.
“What are you thinking about, angel?” Mattheo's hoarse voice echoes in my ear.
He places his hand on my thigh and I smile, leaning down to whisper in his ear too.
“My task, darling.” I step back and he raises a questioning eyebrow before looking over to where my targets are. He gives them a scowl and then turns to me.
“Are you sure you want to do this now?”
I nod, a smirk playing on my full lips and he chuckles devilishly. Suddenly, I feel someone grab my hand, I look up to see my cousin, a big smile on her face and bright eyes.
“Come dance with me, baby!”
I laugh, give Matt my drink, and stand up, following her onto the dance floor.
She places her hands on my shoulders while I place mine on her waist. We start moving our bodies to the music, her swaying her hips sensually while I do it more subtle.
I know Matt wouldn't like it if I move and expose my curves too much.
I feel a gaze burning on my back and search for the culprit, smirking when I notice my fiancé's dark eyes. He eyes me up and down before clenching his jaw and I swallow. He looks angry and excited at the same time.
And I don't even move provocatively!
‘Yes, actually, you do,’he growls in my mind. ‘Get your pretty ass back here. Now!’
I roll my eyes, kiss Nancy's cheek and walk back to the sofas.
Mattheo immediately grabs my arm and yanks me onto his lap, wrapping his arms tightly around my waist, letting my back rest against his chest. He rests his chin on my shoulder and brushes his lips against my ear, making me shiver.
I can also feel the bulge his erection is causing under my buttocks.
“You can't dance like that in front of the whole school, darling.”
I roll my eyes, giggle and cross my arms defensively. “I was just dancing, Matt. I didn't do anything wrong.”
I squeak as his fingers grab my chin harshly. He forces me to look at him, I swallow as I see the rage burning in his eyes. I can smell the alcohol on his breath and realize he must have consumed several drinks while I was dancing.
“Don't talk back to me,” he growls.
I nod quickly, and he abruptly releases my chin, placing his hand on my thigh with a firm grip. I look down, not wanting to see the looks our friends are giving us. They know how Matt acts when he's drunk.
And I hate reading the pity in their eyes whenever it happens.
Mattheo hands me my glass back, and I drain it in one gulp. My eyes scan the room, I immediately notice Jones's curly hair at the drinks table. The perfect opportunity to take action.
“I'll refill my glass,” I inform Matt, “do you want anything?”
He nods and asks me to bring him a whiskey. I kiss his cheek and stand, walking confidently. I use a summoning spell and conjure the vial of poison in my right hand, making sure no one notices.
Satisfied that no one is looking my way, I continue, finally arriving at the drinks table. Jones is still there, busy filling five glasses and placing them on a tray for her to carry out.
So I have to figure out which one is hers. Great.
I grab the bottle of whiskey and a tumbler while smiling at her. “Hi. I'm Aelys.”
She glances at me, surprised that I'm talking to her. Her lips stretch into a tight, somewhat uncertain smile. “Lucy, nice to meet you.”
I finish filling Mattheo's glass before setting down the bottle of whiskey and grabbing a new tumbler. My lips curl into a thoughtful pout as I pretend to look at the selection of drinks.
“I don't even know what to drink, there are so many choices,” I confide in a cheerful voice.
She seems to soften slightly, nodding her head in agreement. She points to a bottle of Malibu, she picks it up, her smile now friendlier as she pours herself a glass.
“I never know what to choose either. In those cases, a good old Malibu does the trick perfectly.”
I smile broadly in thanks and grab the bottle she hands me when she finishes pouring. I pour myself a glass while watching her fill the other four glasses with beer and mentally gloat. I can't miss the mark since she's the only one drinking something different.
I just have to figure out how to get the poison into her drink without her noticing.
Luckily for me, a young girl with pale pink hair approaches and starts chatting with her. I quickly glance over, checking if no one is paying attention, before pouring the poison into the glass of Malibu I just filled. I quickly switch it with the one Jones has prepared for herself.
I grab Mattheo's glass when she looks back in my direction with a friendly smile.
Yes! She didn't notice anything.
“It was a pleasure meeting you, Aelys. Have a good evening!”
I smile back, nodding my head. “The pleasure is mutual. Thanks for your suggestion to try the Malibu. I've never tried it before.”
She laughs softly and promises me I'll love it before taking the tray in her hands and disappearing into the crowd to join her friends.
All that's left is to wait for her to drink her glass and for the poison to take effect.
I return to Mattheo and our friends, sitting on his lap. His hands automatically rest on my hips and he pulls me closer to him. His hands rest on my thighs.
“It took you a long time to fill two glasses,” he growls in my ear.
I swallow at the anger in his voice. I kiss his cheek and hand him his glass of whiskey. “I had to distract Jones so I could slip the poison we found into her drink. She should be dead by tomorrow morning.”
He instantly relaxes and inhales, resting his head on my shoulder. I bite my lower lip to hold back a sigh of relief and look over at our friends. The girls have left, Theodore and Arthur too, while Cameron and Enzo share a joint.
Suddenly, Tom, Pryce and Sean appear and sit with us. I frown in confusion. Mattheo tenses like a bow, I look over to see him glaring at the three wizards.
“Brother,” he greets him through gritted teeth.
“Mattheo,” Tom grunts in response.
“What are they doing here?” My fiancé growls in a hostile tone.
“Oh, you don't know?” Tom smiles wickedly as he adjusts himself in his seat as if he were a king before continuing: “These are our new recruits.”
My lips part in shock and my eyes widen like saucers. They’re disciples? Them?
What the fuck?
Mattheo snorts disdainfully and pats my thighs, silently asking me to stand. He stands as well, putting an arm around my waist, still glaring at the three boys, his jaw set.
“We'll talk about it tomorrow,” he grunts.
He leads us away from the group, Enzo and Cameron waving at us, laughing like children. I laugh and wave back. Mattheo squeezes my waist, making me squeal, and gives me a dark look. I swallow and quicken my pace, realizing he wants me to walk faster.
I'm not afraid of him. He promised to never hurt me again, but when he's drunk, he's unpredictable. So much so that if we argue when he's drunk, it could quickly turn into a disaster.
This boy and his bad temper...
Once we arrive in front of our dorm, he opens the door and we walk in. He abruptly lets go of me and disappears into the bathroom. I sigh softly as I lock the door.
I grab my makeup remover wipes and focus on removing my makeup. I take off my dress, leaving only my red panties and matching bra on. I head to the closet and choose one of Matt's T-shirts, which I slip on before slipping under the silk sheets.
Mattheo leaves the bathroom shortly after, wearing only his boxers. He joins me in bed, and I move closer to him. His arms wrap around my body, he holds me tight as I sigh contentedly against his warmth.
I close my eyes and smile softly when I feel him place a kiss on my head. Even when he's angry and drunk, he's always gentle with me, I know he'll never do anything I wouldn't want him to.
It's easier to let his anger consume him, but I know he'll never hurt me again.
“Good night, angel.”
“'Night, Matt,” I whisper as I'm already falling asleep.
