RIVAN exhaled sharply, rubbing his face with both hands.
The weight in his chest was too heavy... too confusing.
Just then, Reyansh appeared shoulders tense, jaw tight, but pretending to look casual as always.
Reyansh said "you look tense".
RIVAN muttered,
"You idiots gave me enough reason today."
Reyansh rolled his eyes so dramatically that even the palace walls felt offended.
"Oh please. You've been obsessed with that reason since morning. Like a full Bollywood hero"
RIVAN snapped his eyes toward him.
"Do you... know anything about her?"
Reyansh stopped.
He didn't blink.
Didn't smile.
Didn't mock.
Just stood there silent.
The air changed.
Finally, he said in a low, flat voice,
"Find out yourself."
No explanation.
No extra line.
No softness.
Classic Reyansh.
Because he never revealed anything easily.
He always guarded his words like weapons using them only when necessary.
He was unpredictable, sharp-tongued, irritating as hell...
But dangerous too because he knew more than he showed.
And RIVAN knew exactly what that silence meant:
Reyansh was hiding something.
Something big.
Aditya stepped closer.
"Bhai..."
Rivan didn't even bother turning.
His voice was a blade calm, sharp, final.
"Tomorrow we're leaving, Adi."
"No."
Rivan's tone dropped lower, deadly.
"You're coming with us. That's final."
Rivan finally turned his head, eyes cold as if he could see through the lie.
"We both know there is no work, Aditya."
The air tightened.
Reyansh stepped in quickly, trying to save Aditya from the storm.
"Oh come on, Riv... let him be. He's not a kid—"
Rivan cut him off, voice thunderous but controlled.
"For me, there are."
Silence.
Reyansh shut up immediately.
That's when Rajveer walked in, cautious.
"Hope I'm not invading any... family privacy."
Rivan's expression didn't change.
"Not at all."
Reyansh shot Rajveer a look, muttering under his breath, "Yes, very much," but kept quiet when Rivan's eyes flicked toward him.
Rajveer stepped forward.
"Rivan... woh, Kashvi..."
Rivan's attention sharpened.
"What happened?"
Rajveer exhaled.
"Some of her... body parts seem to be missing. I need to know where I can find her."
Rivan's lips curled into a slow, dark smirk the kind that made stomachs drop.
"Well," he said lazily, "ask Kaizan."
But Unfortunately, Kaizan doesn't speak. Otherwise, I'd definitely ask him... and then inform you."
Rivan's smirk deepened dangerous, amused, unbothered.
"Then I guess you'll just have to search for the missing pieces... on your own."
Everyone froze.
No one breathed.
That was the end of the conversation because no one dared take it further.
Kashvi's scream echoed through the desolate ruins, the abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of Mumbai swallowing her cries like a void. Her right hand was a mangled stump, blood still oozing from the ragged cut, soaking the makeshift bandage and dripping onto the cracked concrete floor.
Pain throbbed through her body with every heartbeat, her left hand clutching the ambulance door for support as she staggered out, legs wobbling beneath her.
The black panther stood mere feet away, its sleek ebony fur glistening under the faint moonlight filtering through the broken roof.
Yellow eyes locked onto her, pupils dilating with predatory hunger. It was massive, muscles rippling under its coat, paws silent on the debris-strewn ground.
Kashvi's breath hitched again, her chest heaving as terror clawed at her throat. 'Help! Somebody, please!' she wailed, voice cracking, but the only response was the distant howl of wind through the empty structures.
The panther didn't hesitate. It lunged forward in a blur of shadow and power, covering the distance in a single bound.
Kashvi tried to back away, her injured arm flailing uselessly, but her foot caught on a rusted pipe, sending her tumbling to the ground.
She hit the concrete hard, the impact jarring her wound and drawing a fresh scream from her lips.
Claws extended like curved daggers, the panther pounced, slamming its full weight onto her chest. The air exploded from her lungs in a guttural gasp. Hot breath washed over her face, reeking of raw meat and earth, as its jaws parted wide, revealing fangs that gleamed white.
Kashvi thrashed wildly, her good hand pounding against its unyielding skull, nails scraping futilely at the coarse fur.
'No! Get off me!' she shrieked, kicking her legs, but the beast pinned her down effortlessly, its paws pressing into her shoulders, shredding the thin fabric of her shirt and drawing thin lines of blood across her skin.
With a savage twist, the panther's head darted forward. Its teeth sank into her throat first, piercing flesh and crunching through cartilage.
Blood sprayed in a warm arc, splattering the panther's muzzle and Kashvi's face. She gurgled, a wet, choking sound bubbling from her mouth as her screams turned to ragged wheezes.
Her body convulsed, legs bicycling in the air, but the panther held firm, shaking its head side to side like a terrier with a rat, tearing deeper into her neck. Tendons snapped audibly, and her head lolled at an unnatural angle, eyes wide with shock and fading light.
Not satisfied, the beast released her throat momentarily, only to clamp down on her exposed belly.
Claws raked across her abdomen, ripping open her shirt and skin in four parallel gashes that exposed glistening intestines.
Kashvi's remaining hand clawed at the ground, fingers digging into gravel as agony ripped through her core.
The panther bit into her midsection, jaws working with brutal efficiency, pulling out loops of entrails in a slick, steaming mess. Blood pooled beneath her, soaking her clothes and the earth, the metallic tang filling the air.
She twitched once, twice, her breaths coming in shallow, desperate rasps, but the panther was relentless. It shifted, sinking teeth into her thigh, shaking violently until bone cracked under the pressure.
Flesh tore away in chunks, muscle fibers snapping like frayed ropes.
Kashvi's body went limp, her eyes glazing over as life ebbed away in a final, shuddering spasm.
The panther tore into her further, ripping at her limbs, devouring the soft parts with guttural growls, leaving her broken form scattered across the abandoned lot a feast for the night.
Kashvi's final breaths escaped in a ragged, blood-flecked wheeze, her body shuddering one last time before going slack beneath Kaizan's crushing weight.
The black panther's yellow eyes gleamed with feral triumph, its muzzle slick and dripping with her crimson essence.
She was dead now, her wide eyes staring blankly at the fractured ceiling above, but Kaizan wasn't done.
Hunger and instinct drove him onward, turning the kill into a savage dismemberment.
With a low, rumbling growl that vibrated through the air, Kaizan released her mangled throat and shifted his massive paws, claws digging deeper into her shoulders to anchor her limp form.
His jaws clamped onto her left arm the one still intact teeth sinking through muscle and tendon with a wet crunch.
He yanked backward savagely, shaking his head in violent jerks, ripping the limb free at the elbow joint.
Bone splintered audibly, shards poking through torn flesh as blood sprayed in a fresh gush. The arm flopped to the ground beside her, fingers curled in a frozen claw of agony.
Not sparing her lower body, Kaizan pivoted, sinking teeth into her hip.
His powerful neck muscles flexed as he twisted and pulled, severing the leg at the joint with a sickening pop of ligaments tearing.
The thigh came away in a mess of exposed femur and dangling veins, muscle fibers trailing like frayed wires.
He dropped it aside and attacked the other leg, claws first slashing across her abdomen to widen the evisceration, spilling more intestines onto the blood-soaked concrete.
Jaws locked onto her remaining thigh, and with a brutal shake, he wrenched it free, the hip socket grinding as it dislocated before separating.
Her torso lay gutted and halved now, arms and legs scattered around like discarded refuse.
Kaizan lunged at her head last, clamping down on her jaw and shaking until the neck vertebrae shattered.
He ripped her skull partially free, brain matter oozing from the ragged tear, before tossing it into the shadows.
What remained of Kashvi was a pulverized ruin limbs torn asunder, torso hollowed out, blood pooling in a wide, sticky lake that reflected the moonlight.
Kaizan licked his chops, surveying his work with satisfied pants, the night air thick with the coppery reek of slaughter.
.................................
Rajveer exhaled shakily.
"I can't even... collect her body parts now."
The room fell into a grim silence.
But business was business.
The four men shifted the conversation back strategies, land deals, shipments, alliances. Voices low, calculated, cold.
Until
All four froze.
Rivan's head snapped up just one second of pure panic flashing in his eyes.
Reyansh stiffened.
Aditya's heart dropped.
Rajveer looked like he was ready to pull out a gun.
Because Kaizan Kaizan was sprinting behind Devyani.
For a terrifying heartbeat, it looked like she was being hunted.
"But Kaizan never harms his mumma... then—?"
Before anyone could move, Devyani came running into the room
laughing.
Giggling.
Full smile.
Her tiny teeth showing like an excited child.
"Help me!" she squealed. "Hide me! Jaldi!"
And all four deadly men men who never took orders from anyone
instantly obeyed her.
Reyansh moved aside like a soldier receiving a command.
Aditya opened space behind him like he was protecting royalty.
Rajveer, confused as hell, still stepped in front like a shield.
Rivan just watched, something warm flickering in his eyes.
Devayani dashed behind the four of them and crouched, breathless, still giggling.
Kaizan skidded to a halt at the entrance, tail swishing, golden eyes confused why his mumma was suddenly playing hide and seek.
Rivan's lips twitched. A rare, silent smile.
Reyansh and Aditya exchanged soft, helpless grins.
Rajveer whispered to himself, "Is she... always like this?"
Kaizan halted at the doorway, chest rising, tail slicing the air.
A deep, guttural roar rumbled out of him
"Dad, where's mumma!?"
That's exactly what it sounded like.
Rivan didn't blink.
"Nope," he said coolly. "She's not here."
Rajveer's head snapped toward him so fast it almost cracked.
Before Rivan could glare, Kaizan huffed loudly and padded forward, his huge paws thudding against the floor.
"Come on, Dad," his body language screamed,
"Mumma is literally behind you."
Kaizan tilted his massive head, golden eyes narrowing in suspicion.
The great predator looked accusingly at the great Rivan Thakur
And the atmosphere shifted.
Rivan felt those judging eyes.
Kaizan's expression clearly said:
"WOW. The great Rivan Thakur is LYING because of his wife.
This should be in the breaking news."
Devyani muffled her giggle behind the men.
Reyansh nearly choked.
Aditya was biting his lips not to laugh.
Rivan's deadly eyes cut through all of them like a blade.
Then, with the most dramatic annoyance ever,Kaizan exhaled sharply and turned away
And he walked out of the room, pretending to look for his mumma...
Suddenly, Devyani's eyes lit up.
She leaned a little to the side...
And before anyone could react
She snatched Rajveer's gun.
A real, loaded, metal gun.
Her face sparkled with pure excitement.
Every man in the room froze.
Reyansh's soul left his body.
Rajveer forgot how to breathe.
Aditya nearly fainted.
And Rivan
Rivan's heart stopped.
He barked instantly, voice sharp:
"YES. Give. Me. Back."
But Devyani hugged the gun to her chest and stepped back like a stubborn toddler.
She lifted it slightly, admiring it.
Reyansh gulped so hard it was audible.
"Devu... come here, hmm? We both will play something else first... just give me that."
Rivan muttered under his breath, voice full of murder:
"Rajveer... how about I cancel the deal right now?"
Rajveer stiffened.
"W–what? Why?"
Rivan's deadly glare hit him like a bullet.
Rajveer squeaked, "S-sorry... it's for safety—"
Reyansh shot him a glare.
"Just because of your safety, all of us were about to die, bro!"
Aditya stepped forward quickly, brain working on survival mode.
Devyani's eyes sparkled instantly.
"Reaaally? Now? But it's night na..."
"Okay!" she chirped happily.
She handed the gun to him like a candy.
All four men exhaled together
Like survivors of a near-death experience.
Aditya held the gun safely in his hand and bent down a little toward Devyani.
"I'll buy you ice cream tomorrow. Pakka promise."
His voice was gentle, sweet almost brotherly.
Then he leaned forward and placed a soft kiss on her forehead.
He gave her a reassuring smile...
And then quickly walked out before Rivan or fate could kill him.
Behind him, Rivan stood like a volcano about to explode.
His eyes were literally shooting fire at Aditya's back.
If looks could kill, Aditya would already be buried.
Aditya ignored the deadly stare and escaped like a professional.
Rajveer and Reyansh were still frozen in their places.
Both staring at the doorway
mouths open, eyes widened
Rivan gently brushed a strand of hair from Devyani's face.
"Go and sleep, baby... I'll come later."
She nodded instantly, trusting him without a single question, and walked toward the bedroom.
Kaizan padded behind her like a shadow protective, alert.
As soon as she disappeared inside, Rivan's entire expression shifted.
Softness gone.
Warmth gone.
Eyes turning cold, sharp, dangerous.
Reyansh rolled his sleeves.
Rajveer checked his gun.
All three knew.
Rivan had some unfinished business tonight.
Without wasting time, the three men stepped out of the house silently
slipping back into their world of deals, threats, and blood.
Inside the room...
Devyani sat on the bed first, blinking sleepily.
Kaizan climbed up next to her, his big black body moving with surprising gentleness.
"Mumma sleepy?"
he murmured in his deep, animalistic tone.
She nodded and wrapped her tiny arms around his neck.
He instantly curled around her, protective like a big warm shield.
Within minutes, both mother and panther were asleep
cuddled together like two soft children.
Devyani's hand rested on his fur.
Kaizan's tail wrapped around her waist like a hug.
And the moonlight fell softly over them...
a fragile peace in the middle of a dangerous world.
.
.
.
.
Rivan pushed open the bedroom door quietly, his footsteps silent.
He expected Devyani to be curled on his side of the bed...
waiting for him...
missing him...
But instead
His whole body froze.
Kaizan was sprawled across the bed like a giant black mountain,
and Devyani was curled into his chest, tiny fingers fisted in his fur.
Her face buried against Kaizan.
Her legs tangled with his tail.
Her breath soft and even... completely at peace.
And Kaizan?
Snoring like he owned the place.
Rivan's jaw flexed.
His left eye twitched.
His wife.
His. Wife.
Sleeping in the arms of that overgrown, oversized, ego-filled panther.
Rivan's blood heated.
He stepped closer.
Kaizan's tail tightened protectively around Devyani's waist, like a warning:
Mine.
Rivan whispered under his breath,
"The hell she is. She's my wife, idiot. Move your damn tail."
He leaned over, trying to shift Devyani gently, but the panther growled low
soft, but enough to show he wasn't letting go.
Rivan's jealousy snapped.
"Kaizan..."
he whispered with a deadly calm that could freeze fire,
"I swear on everything you love, if you don't remove your tail in the next two seconds,
I'm shaving you bald tomorrow."
Kaizan's eyes popped open.
He tightened his tail even more around Devyani.
Rivan's mouth fell open.
"Oh, you want to play?" he hissed.
He leaned closer to Devyani's sleeping face...
brushed a soft kiss on her forehead...
another on her temple...
another on her cheek...
Kaizan growled again loud this time.
Rivan smirked wickedly.
Then he finally, carefully pulled Devyani into his arms,
lifting her away from the panther's body with a possessive grip.
Kaizan sat up angrily.
Rivan whispered smugly,
"Wife sleeps with her husband. Not her pet. Understand?"
Kaizan snarled.
Rivan glared.
And Devyani slept peacefully between the two most jealous creatures in existence.
.
.
.
.
.
Devyani's lashes fluttered as she slowly woke up.
She stretched a little...
...only to freeze.
Because she couldn't move. At all.
Her eyes snapped open
and she found herself sandwiched like a tiny doll.
On her right, Rivan's arm was locked around her waist,
pulling her into his hard chest,
his face buried in her hair like he owned every breath she took.
On her left, Kaizan had curled his giant paw over her stomach,
his head resting on her shoulder,
his tail wrapped around her leg.
Both of them holding her like she might disappear if they loosened even a little.
Her eyes widened so big that even her breathing stopped.
She tried to move her hand
Rivan's grip tightened instantly.
She tried to shift her leg
Kaizan's tail hugged her tighter.
She gulped.
She looked at Rivan's sleeping face
he looked peaceful but too possessive,
like he spent the whole night fighting for her.
Then she looked at Kaizan
who was practically lying on top of her like she was his favourite pillow.
Her voice came out in a tiny scared squeak:
"Main... zinda hoon na? Kyun dono mujhe aise pakad rahe hain?"
She tried again to wiggle.
Rivan pulled her closer in his sleep.
Kaizan growled softly and hugged her tighter.
She stared at the ceiling, horrified.
And she lay there, frozen like a trapped kitten,
completely unaware she was the reason both father and son slept so peacefully.
Devyani gathered all her courage, sucked a deep breath in...
and slid out from between the two sleeping monsters.
It was like escaping a jungle trap.
Rivan's arm flopped to the side.
Kaizan's tail thudded against the mattress.
Both of them murmured in their sleep
but thankfully didn't wake.
The moment she stood up, she exhaled so loudly it felt like her soul returned.
"Bach gayi..." she whispered dramatically.
Then she ran. Literally ran out of the room like her life depended on it.
In the hallway, she collided with Jinal.
"Devu! Finally! I was looking for you," Jinal said, smiling.
"Bade papa said we're leaving soon. Did you pack?"
Devyani, still breathing like she finished a marathon, held her chest.
"Ji–jinal..."
Jinal's eyes widened. "What happened? Why are you breathing like this? Did you fall?"
Devyani shook her head rapidly.
"No, no... woh... that father and son will eat me one day, I swear!"
Jinal blinked. "Huh?"
"They both squeeze... like I'm their... their ladoo!" Devyani whispered in horror.
Jinal burst into laughter.
Devyani grabbed her hand dramatically.
"Jinal! I need to talk something very important. Come fast!"
"Okay, okay!" Jinal said, still giggling as they walked away.
?
INSIDE THE ROOM
The silence was peaceful again.
Rivan instinctively reached out
but found empty space.
Kaizan also stretched his paw and felt nothing.
For one second both frowned in sleep...
Then
they hugged each other instead and fell back asleep
like two jealous lions who lost their favourite cub.
Devyani tugged Jinal's hand, pulling her behind a pillar like she was about to confess to a murder.
"Ummm... Jinal," she whispered, checking left and right.
Jinal raised a brow. "Ha, Devu? Why are you looking like you stole something?"
Devyani gulped.
"It's... something dirty."
Jinal blinked. "Dirty? What happened?"
Devyani's ears turned red.
"Woh... woh... it's something... girly..."
Jinal softened immediately. "It's okay, Devu. Tell me. I won't laugh. Promise."
Devyani took a deep breath, leaned close, and whispered like revealing a national secret:
Jinal froze.
Her eyes widened.
Devyani nodded quickly, whispering louder, "Haan! White! That sticky thing! Kya hota hai woh? I thought I peed but it's not pee... and it's so weird and—"
Jinal slapped her own forehead.
"OH. THAT."
Devyani pouted. "You know?? Then tell me naaa!"
Jinal sighed and gently held her shoulder.
"Devu... that is very normal."
"Devu... you didn't know this before?" she asked carefully.
Devyani shook her head.
Jinal leaned in a little, searching her face.
"But... why? This is basic stuff. Your mumma didn't tell you?"
The moment the word mumma left her mouth, Devyani froze.
Just... stopped breathing for a second.
Her fingers tightened on her dress.
Her eyes flickered pain, fear, something deep she didn't want touched.
Jinal noticed.
"Devu?" she whispered softly.
But Devyani forced a tiny, shaky smile.
"I... ummm... I have to go," she said quickly, her voice suddenly small.
Before Jinal could say anything else, Devyani rushed away, almost tripping over her own feet, escaping like a frightened bird running from an old wound.
Jinal stood there, stunned, a heavy feeling settling in her chest.
She finally whispered to herself,
"What exactly happened to you, Devu...?"
Devyani rushed away, her footsteps light but her heart unbearably heavy.
The moment Jinal mentioned mumma, something inside her twisted
Like someone squeezed her chest from inside.
Her eyes stung.
Her throat burned.
She blinked fast... fast... fast...
But the tears kept gathering.
Just then
"Devu?"
Yashodha Thakurain stepped into the hallway, stopping her gently by the shoulders.
"What happened, beta? Why are your eyes watery?"
Devyani froze.
And seeing Yashodha the warmth of her voice, the motherliness in her eyes the dam inside her broke.
Before she even understood what she was doing, she launched forward and wrapped her arms tightly around Yashodha's waist.
Yashodha gasped in panic, her hands immediately cupping the back of Devyani's head.
"Arre, Devu! What happened, bachcha? Why are you crying?"
Her voice trembled with genuine worry.
Devyani didn't answer.
Couldn't answer.
She just pressed her face into Yashodha's saree, sobbing silently, her tiny frame shaking like a leaf in storm.
Yashodha's heart clenched painfully.
She hugged the girl tighter, rubbing her back slowly.
"Shhh... I'm here, beta. Tell me what happened.Anyone said something?"
Devyani only shook her head against her shoulder, tears soaking Yashodha's pallu as if she had found safety
a place she had been craving for years without knowing it.
And Yashodha held her like she was holding her own daughter.
.
.
.
.
.
Rivan woke up from his sleep
only to realise he was tangled with Kaizan.
His eyes snapped open, widening in shock.
"Where is my wife?" he growled.
Kaizan also woke up, ears twitching, and let out a low, dangerous rumble.
"Where is my mumma?"
Both of them stared at each other
like they could kill each other right then and there.
After some time, Devyani entered the room.
Both Rivan and Kaizan immediately got up from the bed, their instincts the same
to go to her.
They walked toward her at the same time,
almost bumping into each other in their hurry for her attention.
But Devyani...
didn't even glance at either of them.
Her eyes were still red, her expression distant.
Without a word, she walked straight into the washroom.
Rivan stiffened.
Kaizan's tail froze.
A few minutes later, Rivan quickly freshened up and came back, only to find her packing the last of her things with quiet, shaky movements.
She still didn't look at them.
Now both Rivan and Kaizan stood behind her
one tall and dangerously silent,
one crouched and growling softly in concern
but Devyani simply ignored them,
because right now she didn't want to talk to anyone.
Not even them.
Devyani quietly folded the last dupatta and placed it inside the bag.
Her fingers trembled, but she forced herself to keep moving.
Behind her, Rivan's jaw ticked.
He wasn't used to being ignored especially by his own wife.
And Kaizan... Kaizan's low, anxious growl filled the room.
He shifted restlessly, nudging her elbow once with his head, hoping she would at least look at him.
She didn't.
Rivan finally stepped forward, voice low but tense.
"Kitten."
No response.
He tried again, firmer this time.
"Look at me."
She froze for half a second but then continued folding her clothes, refusing to lift her eyes.
That hit him.
He moved closer, standing right beside her now, the anger in him shifting into something tight... something unfamiliar... something that almost hurt.
"What are you doing?" he asked, softer than before.
Still nothing.
Kaizan couldn't take it.
He crawled forward, pressed his large head against her shoulder, whining like a child desperate for his mother.
She paused...
her throat bobbed...
but she still didn't turn.
Rivan exchanged a look with Kaizan both equally confused, equally restless.
Then Devyani whispered, voice breaking,
That single sentence stabbed Rivan in a place he didn't know existed.
Kaizan growled instantly possessive, unhappy.
Rivan stepped in front of her, blocking her way completely, his voice low, controlled... but shaking at the edges.
"You're not leaving this room unless you tell me what happened."
Devyani finally looked up
and the sight of her swollen eyes, her broken expression, hit both of them like a punch.
Kaizan whimpered.
Rivan's fists clenched.
Something was very, very wrong.
Rivan saw how shaken Devyani still looked, so he didn't push more.
He softened his voice.
"Accha, okay... relax."
He brushed a strand of hair gently behind her ear.
"I'll tell the servant to bring our bags. Come, let's go."
Devyani nodded faintly, her eyes still distant.
He placed a hand on her back protectively and guided her out.
Kaizan followed behind them like a shadow, bumping his head against Devyani's arm wanting attention but she was too lost in her thoughts.
Everyone gathered in front of the palace.
The cars were lined up, bags loaded, servants rushing around.
Virendra and Yashodha were checking the last-minute details.
The younger siblings were chatting and fighting as usual.
Rivan was the first to reach the cars.
He opened the door and made Devyani sit inside carefully, adjusting her saree automatically, without thinking.
Kaizan immediately tried to jump inside after her.
"Nahi."
Rivan blocked him with one hand, like stopping a disobedient kid.
"You're not coming with us."
Kaizan growled.
A loud, irritated growl.
The kind that clearly meant:
I don't agree. I hate this. I want my mumma.
But Rivan simply glared back.
Kaizan looked personally offended.
Like someone had asked a king to sit with common villagers.
He turned his head slowly toward the younger Thakur siblings' car...
Rudraksh smirked, Payal giggled, aradhya waved awkwardly.
Kaizan's expression clearly said:
I dislike them. And also, I dislike them.
But he still stomped towards their car dramatically because Rivan was Rivan, and arguing with him meant nothing but trouble.
He jumped into the siblings' car, sat in the middle seat, and glared at everyone like:
As the engines started and all cars got ready to move, Devyani leaned her head against the window, quiet... lost.
Rivan watched her for a long second...
Something unsettled twisted in his chest.
Rivan drove in silence, his eyes switching between the road and the girl sitting beside him.
Devyani sat stiffly, her hands folded in her lap, staring out of the window.
Her lashes were still a little wet, her breathing uneven.
After a few minutes, Rivan couldn't take it anymore.
He reached over and gently took her hand in his much larger one.
"Okay...?"
His voice was low, rough, but careful.
Devyani didn't look at him.
She just made a small sound
"Hmmm..."
soft, tired, almost broken.
He squeezed her fingers lightly, as if grounding her.
She didn't pull away.
A few minutes later, her shoulders relaxed just a little.
Her head slowly leaned back, her grip on his hand loosening.
Within moments, her eyes fluttered shut.
Rivan glanced at her again
her forehead soft, her breathing turning slow.
She had finally dozed off.
He lowered the car's AC so it wouldn't hit her face directly, adjusted the seatbelt gently so it wouldn't press her neck... and kept driving with her small hand still held securely in his.
For the next half hour, he didn't let go.
Suddenly, through the side mirror, Rivan's eyes narrowed.
Two... no, three cars trailing them.
Too close. Too steady. Too intentional.
His jaw tightened.
Without waking Devyani still asleep with her head slightly tilted toward him he picked up his phone and called Reyansh.
Rivan: "You see it?"
His voice was low, lethal.
Reyansh: "Yeah... I noticed. They're sticking like glue."
A pause, then,
"What's the plan?"
Rivan's eyes flicked to Devyani's sleeping face.
Her fingers were still loosely resting in his palm.
Rivan: "I can't risk it. Devyani's sleeping and... the whole family is with us."
Reyansh exhaled sharply.
"Fine. I'll divert them."
Rivan clenched the steering wheel.
"Are you sure?"
Reyansh gave a humorless laugh.
"I was born for this shit. You take the main route. I'll pull them away."
Silence.
Then Rivan said quietly,
"Okay."
He hung up and immediately called the other drivers.
His voice was strict, commanding, leaving no space for panic.
"All cars, alert. Maintain distance. Don't slow down. Take the alternate route exactly when I say."
A chorus of "Yes, sir" followed.
Rivan glanced at the rear seat empty except for their luggage.
Then at Devyani still asleep, unaware of danger circling them like wolves.
He shifted gears, muscles tight.
They finally reached one of their secured hotels an isolated property only the Thakurs used during risky travel.
Everyone was exhausted.
Devyani, who had slept the entire drive, didn't even stir when the car stopped.
Rivan opened her door, leaned in, and without a word, lifted her gently into his arms.
She curled unconsciously into his chest, making his heart stumble for a second.
He carried her inside the room, laid her softly on the bed, and covered her.
Then he call Reyansh.
Reyansh.
Reyansh nswered immediately.
But all he heard was panting.
Rivan: "Something dangerous?"
A rough, breathless laugh came from the other side.
Reyansh: "Yes... very dangerous—ahhhhhh—"
A loud scream echoed.
Rivan straightened.
"What—do you need backup?"
Reyansh: "No, man... I'm a one-man army."
And he cut the call.
Rivan stared at his phone.
"What the hell happened to him...?"
He muttered, confused.
He shoved the phone away and turned just in time to see Devyani blinking awake.
Her eyelashes fluttered, eyes widening.
Devyani: "Hein... how come we are here???"
Rivan crossed his arms lightly.
Rivan: "You were sleeping the whole time. We reached the hotel, so I brought you inside."
She looked around, then nodded slowly.
Devyani: "Oh..."
Her hair was messy, her voice was sleepy she looked like a confused kitten.
And for a moment, Rivan forgot the danger outside...
Because this girl this innocent little creature had already become the center of his world without even knowing it.
Devyani rubbed her eyes once... twice...
Then her gaze slowly travelled downward
And stopped.
Right.
There.
Her eyes glued to a very, very specific area of Rivan's pants.
Rivan, who was just checking his watch, paused.
Then narrowed his eyes.
Rivan (deadly calm): "...Ab kya hua ise?"
She didn't answer.
Just stared.
Rivan followed her gaze
then cursed internally so hard he could shatter the hotel windows.
He took one sharp inhale, trying not to panic.
Before he could say anything, Devyani dropped a bomb so big it made his soul leave his body.
She pointed at him innocently.
Devyani: "Pati ji... come here."
Rivan's brain:
No. No. NO. Not again. NOT THIS.
His heartbeat stumbled, legs suddenly stiff.
Rivan: "K... kyu??"
Devyani blinked like a lost puppy.
Devyani: "I want to ask something... very important."
Rivan's entire body locked.
Oh no.
Oh hell no.
His voice cracked slightly
Rivan: "kitten... kya... kya poochna hai?"
She tilted her head, genuinely confused.
Devyani's eyes were still glued to his pants when she suddenly whispered:
Devyani: "Woh... white-white cheez... aapko bhi hoti hai??
Aap bhi mar rahe ho???"
Rivan: "M–MAIN KYA!?
I'm dying??"
He looked genuinely offended by the idea of his own death.
Devyani nodded seriously.
Devyani: "Haan... wait... let me explain—"
But before she could explain ANYTHING, she suddenly stepped close.
Very close.
And then she just lifted onto her toes and kissed him.
Rivan froze.
His eyes widened like she just stabbed him instead of kissing him.
Rivan (thinking):
Wait—what—
IS SHE HARASSING ME again!?!?
He grabbed her shoulders gently and pulled back.
Rivan: "kitten... WAIT.
Why are you kissing???"
Devyani blinked innocently.
Devyani: "Because... woh... white cheez tab aati hai na... when we kiss?
Come. Give me kiss."
She grabbed his cheeks tightly with both hands like he was a baby and forcefully kissed him again.
And the worst part?
He responded.
Of course he did.
He was trying to understand her, but his mouth automatically followed commands like an idiot.
After kissing him breathless, she suddenly sprinted into the washroom like she was completing a mission.
Rivan stood there, brain blank.
Rivan (thinking):
What is happening...
What is her logic...
Before he could recover, she came back out.
Straight face.
Serious tone.
Like she was giving instructions for a school project.
Devyani: "Nope. This we will do again.
You will kiss me... and you will touch my breasts. Okay?"
Rivan gulped so hard it echoed in his skull.
Rivan (dying inside):
How can she say such... ROMANTIC things... so casually...
Is this punishment—?
Why am I sweating—
But he had no choice.
She was already holding his shirt.
So he leaned down... kissed her again... softer, deeper.
And this time, when he touched her chest
She moaned.
A soft, helpless, innocent little sound that hit him straight in the spine.
Rivan forgot how to breathe.
Forgot language.
Forgot his name.
Forgot Rajasthan.
His brain:
error. error. error.
(Rivan truly regrets being born today)
Rivan was still catching his breath when Devyani suddenly held his wrist and made him sit on the bed.
Her expression: dead serious.
His expression: dead scared.
Devyani: "Pati ji... now tell me properly.
White-white cheez... aati kyun hai?"
Rivan: "Dev——please—stop saying it like that—"
Devyani: "Haan but tell me na.
Girls ko bhi hoti hai.
Aur boys ko bhi hoti hai.
Toh FIR sab mar rahe???"
Rivan shut his eyes.
Rivan (thinking):
Why does she talk like a crime reporter?
Rivan: "Nobody is dying, bacche.
It's... normal."
Devyani: " NORMAL??
White cheez kaise normal ho sakti??
It looks like fevicol."
Rivan choked on air.
Rivan: "FE—WHAT??
FEVICOL!??!? Baby what—"
But she continued like a scientist presenting her research.
Devyani: "Haan. Thick thick. Sticky sticky.
Same. Exactly like fevicol"
Rivan (mentally collapsing):
I will kill everyone.
Devyani: "Aur batao.
Boys ko kab hota hai?
Morning mein?
Night mein?
Kiss karne se?
Ya kisi ke chalne se bhi aata hai?"
Rivan's soul left his body.
Rivan: "CHA—CHALNE SE!?
NO!
KAUN sa logic hai yeh!?"
Rivan held his forehead.
Rivan (thinking):
God. Take me. I am done.
She scooted closer, whispering:
Devyani: "Pati ji...
What if... in your pant... abhi ho raha ho?"
Rivan STOPPED breathing.
Rivan: "DE—VYANI!!!!
NO!! Why are you staring THERE!?"
Devyani: "But pati ji...
If white thing comes... should we collect it?
Or wipe it?
Or throw it?
Or bury it?
Rivan's jaw dropped.
Rivan: "BUR—BURY!?
WHAT ARE GIRLS BURYING!?
WHO IS DOING FUNERAL FOR THIS??"
And I am sure you will end up crying, because while writing this, I cried a lot
Thin, worn-out pieces of fabric that once might have been something else. She folded them again and again, clumsy fingers trembling, and tied them tightly around her waist, pressing them between her legs the way instinct told her to.
It felt wrong.
Uncomfortable.
Painful.
But she had no choice.
The blood didn't stop.
It came slowly at first drop by drop then more, staining the cloth dark, soaking through. She kept checking, panic rising every time she saw red again.
One day passed.
Then two.
Then five.
Six... seven.
Her body felt weak, like it might collapse any second. Her stomach cramped so badly that sometimes she had to sit on the floor, hugging her knees, biting her lips to stop herself from crying out.
Walking was torture.
