The Boys Behind the Band: A Tell-All Interview with DAYDREAM
With chart-topping hits and a dedicated fan base, DAYDREAM has risen to meteoric success. In this exclusive interview, the members open up about their creative process, the close bond they share, and their hopes for the band.
FELIX: We worked on it for three months, fine-tuning every detail to make sure it was perfect. When we finally recorded it, the energy in the studio was incredibly high. We didn’t know it would be so popular, but we knew it was special. The melody, the vibe—everything came together amazingly.
YOU WERE FRIENDS BEFORE FORMING THE BAND. HAS YOUR FRIENDSHIP EVOLVED POST-FAME?
WILL: We’ve always been close, but now there’s a deeper level of understanding and support. Our busy schedules and the constant pressure can make it difficult to prioritize our friendship at times, but at the end of the day, we’ll always have each other’s backs.
DAYDREAM HAS RELEASED NINETEEN SONGS, BUT ONLY THREE HAVE SONGWRITING CREDITS FROM FELIX, LACHLAN, AND/OR CALUM. DO YOU DESIRE BEING MORE HANDS-ON?
LACHLAN: Frankly, if it were up to us, those numbers would look very different. Unfortunately, those decisions have been taken out of our hands.
CALUM adds: I think what he means is that songwriting is something we’re really passionate about, and we see it as a unique way for DREAMERs to connect with our music. Hopefully, we’ll have chances to contribute more often.
IN TEN YEARS, WHAT DO YOU WANT PEOPLE TO REMEMBER MOST ABOUT YOU AS A GROUP?
FELIX: I think we all hope that folks will remember how we made them feel.
We want our music—and who we are as people—to be a safe space.
Music has always been that for us, and if we’re able to give someone that same sense of comfort or belonging, even briefly, then we’ll have done something meaningful.
