Chapter 2 #4
“And killed her?” Coast replied. “What does that get anyone? Did they think Inari would cooperate now?”
“I honestly don’t think Mira gave a fuck.” Moose shrugged. “She wasn’t getting what she wanted out of Inari, so she wanted to teach her a lesson. As far as Danilo, he had to know this shit wouldn’t end well for him. Not with his son. Dane loved Ayla.”
“He’s going to be devastated.” Coast shook her head. “And to know his own father had a part in it.”
“That’s id Danilo hasn’t brainwashed him completely. He already got him thinking the worst about Inari.” Moose sniffled and flicked the tip of his nose.
He’d been sober too long and was starting to get anxious and jittery. Mozzi squinted, recognizing the signs from when he was around his own mama and her junkie ass friends. Some shit you just didn’t forget as a child. Stroking Iara’s back, he smiled when she let go of a tiny baby burp.
“And what’s going on with you and Inari? Why did she run out of here the minute you stepped in?” Coast interrogated.
Another pause, and Mozzi exchanged a stare with his brother.
“She found out some shit. Plus, I ran into Ayla last night, and she was with some nigga named Justin—”
“Justin?” Coast repeated, frowning.
“Yeah. You know him?” Moose queried.
“Yeah, she said they had classes together at the college. Is that what happened to her? Did he do something?”
“He’s the last muhfucka I saw her with. She said she was good with him, so I left to handle some shit,” Moose explained.
“That doesn’t make any sense,” Coast muttered, eyes drifting to the hospital blanket draped over her legs.
“Where’s Kong?” Mozzi asked.
“I don’t know. I thought he might have been on his way here like me. We ran into a dead end at one of Mira’s spots. He put a price on Danilo’s head, though. Twenty-four hours.”
“I’m going to find a doctor. We’re having you released today.” Mozzi stepped closer and kissed the top of Coast’s head before handing her their baby girl. “Come with me.” He nodded for Moose to follow him to the door.
Once the two of them stepped out of Coast’s room, Moose pressed his back to the wall and dropped his head against it.
“What the fuck happened?” Mozzi pried.
“Shit went left,” Moose responded. “Like all the way left. We need you. We need to find Mira and this bitch ass nigga Danilo.”
“And Inari?” Mozzi queried, lifting a brow.
“She knows everything. I don’t know how or why she remembered, but she does. She knows it was me the night of the heist. She ain’t fucking with me. She made that clear, and I gotta eat that.”
“I take one fucking night off,” Mozzi grumbled.
“I ain’t trying to take you from that, bro, but we need your expertise right now.” Moose pushed himself off the wall.
Nodding, Mozzi dragged his hand down his beard and looked around for a doctor or nurse.
He had to get Coast and Iara home, so he could focus.
He wouldn’t be able to do that with them in this hospital.
His preference was that they both be at Audiemar’s home for now until things went somewhat back to normal and they could be home.
He’d already arranged for her to have everything she needed there as well.
“I got you. Let me get her checked out. Call Brim and tell him to meet us here in like an hour. Once I get them settled in at the estate, we’ll handle this, aight?”
“Yeah, I was just with him,” Moose agreed, fishing his cell from his pocket to text Brim.
He told him he was going home to check in with Royal and the kids, but he would be at the hospital within the hour.
Moose ducked off into a bathroom to get himself together.
He entered the last stall in the facility and shut the door securely behind him.
Going into his pocket for the pack, all he kept seeing was the disappointment and hurt in Inari’s eyes.
He’d let people down before, but her? It wasn’t something he took pride in, and he knew he had to make it right. No matter what it took.
Inari trusted him, and he’d let her down.
He couldn’t be mad at how she reacted to his fuck up.
Two lines lifted him, and he stepped out of the stall to wash his hands at the sink and take in his reflection.
He could use a retwist and line up, but it was the darkness swirling in his eyes that he took note of.
He wasn’t sure who the fuck he was anymore or what he was becoming.
Motherfuckers talked about crashing out, and he knew that feeling all too well.
It took a lot of time and a little therapy to even get him to the point where he was now.
He and all his brothers had to sit with a therapist when they were first adopted, but only Mozzi continued throughout the years when he got his bipolar diagnosis.
Moose and Kong felt like they’d healed as much as they were going to and didn’t like sitting with a stranger a few times a week, baring their souls.
“Aight, they’re getting all her release shit together. Gimme like two hours, and I’ll meet you at the farm. Find Kong.” Mozzi aimed a finger at Moose.
