Chapter 21 Trooper

Trooper

Ismiled as I watched Sophie from across the room while she slipped into her dress.

We had dinner plans with Los and Maddie and she had us late as hell because she’d changed three times.

Everything she put on was sexy as fuck, but she got dressed, looked in the mirror, then complained it wasn’t right.

I was annoyed as fuck because I was hungry as hell and ready to leave, but I didn’t wanna to ruin our evening with an argument about what the fuck she wore.

For that reason, I patiently pulled on my blunt and watched her sexy ass play fashion show.

“What about this?” She walked over and stood a few feet from me wearing a short ass red dress that slipped off her shoulders and flowed around her body.

All I could think about was how easy it would be for me to slip under it and fuck her if I wanted to. Shit was cool with me because we had a history of handling things in the car, bathrooms, and elevators.

“It looks good, just like all that other shit you tried on then changed. Now can we go?” I said with a smirk before glancing down at my wrist.

That forced her cute lips into a pout as she looked at me.

“Trooper, it has to be perfect. So be honest.”

I put out the blunt in the ashtray next to me and stood so I towered over her. Keeping my hands at my side, I leaned down and kissed her neck first then both shoulders as I circled her body. When I was behind her, I kissed her collarbone and between her shoulder blades, which made her body shiver.

“It’s perfect. You’re perfect. Now let’s go before I change my mind and help you out of this.”

I walked away and stopped at the dresser to get my key before I left the room. I stood at the elevator door waiting and Sophie joined me moments later. A light scent of perfume trailed her, which made me want to taste her skin. But I kept my distance or dinner would be a wrap.

After we stepped off the elevator and entered the lobby, Oscar glared at me then stared lustfully at Sophie. I kept telling her this muthafucker had issues, but she tried to convince me it was innocent. I had a feeling I would be checking his ass soon enough.

“Big plans tonight, Sophie?” he said, glancing at me, but focusing on her.

Shit like this made me want to have a conversation with him.

“Yeah, we have plans,” I answered before she got a chance, causing her to cut her eyes at me. Sophie was too gotdamn nice about certain things.

“Yes, dinner with Maddie and her friend,” she said, smiling.

“Tell her I said hello.”

“For what? Y’all tight like that?” I asked.

“Trooper…” Sophie looked at me like I was crazy.

“What? Damn. He acts like they tight. I’m just saying, if they are, he can call her ass and tell her what’s up. If not, he can say that shit next time he sees her.”

I grabbed her hand and pulled her with me. We were taking my truck which I hadn’t bothered letting the valet take, so it was parked across the street.

“What was that all about?” Sophie asked as soon as we were inside.

“Shit, you tell me. Didn’t you say he was acting weird?

You can’t overlook people like that, Sophie.

You live alone and he has access to you.

I get being friendly, but he’s taking things too far.

I can be standing right next to you and he’ll ignore the fuck outta me and focus on you like he’s mad. It ain’t normal.”

“He’s harmless, Trooper, and he doesn’t have access to me. Technically, I don’t live alone because you’re here all the time or I’m at your place.”

“You don’t know if he’s harmless or not. Crazy people don’t show you their crazy until it’s too late. I promise you this though, if he crosses any gotdamn lines, I have no issues taking care of him.”

“Taking care of him? What’s that supposed to mean?”

I glanced at her and chuckled, but didn’t respond.

“Trooper!”

“Let it go, Sophie. I don’t want to fuck up our evening,” I said calmly.

She just sat there burning a hole in the side of my face.

I reached over and glided my finger across her neck before taking hold of her hand, bringing it to my lips, and kissing the back.

This was the issue with coming from two different worlds.

There were things she was okay with and I wasn’t.

Not only was it about her safety, but it was disrespectful as fuck for another man to lust over my lady.

I didn’t care who the fuck it was. Some things about me weren’t going to change and she would just have to get used to that.

As of right now, Oscar’s ass had strikes one and two, three would mean a permanent resolution.

That right there, I wasn’t fucking around with.

By the time we met Los and Maddie at the restaurant, Sophie had calmed and let the Oscar thing go.

We had dinner and were now sitting on the rooftop working through our second round of drinks.

Los and I stood at the building’s edge so we could speak freely while Sophie and Maddie sat on the sofas around the firepit whispering about us.

Every so often they looked our way to giggle like teenagers.

“So what’s up? You find out anything about what went down?” I asked Los. We still had no idea why he’d gotten stopped and it was lowkey fucking with me. I didn’t like anyone coming for either of us.

“Hell no, but shit’s been cool though, so I’m not really worried at the moment.”

“You should be. You can handle a lot of issues, but five-o fucking with you is not an issue you want. Even if they don’t have shit on you,” I said in all seriousness.

“You right, but like you said, they don’t have shit on me. So right now, I’m just chilling. What’s up with you though? Rip has been running his mouth about you. That muthafucker is mad as fuck that you embarrassed his ass.”

I glanced at Sophie and she just happened to look up at me right at that moment. She blew me a kiss and I winked at her.

“Muthafucker, focus, with your in love ass. Did you hear what the fuck I just said?” Los retorted.

“Yeah, I heard you, but the same way you ain’t stressing your shit, I’m not stressing mine. Rip can talk all he wants, but we both know it won’t ever be anything but that, talk. He ain’t trying to die and fucking with me is the fastest path to making that happen.”

Los smirked and nodded. “You right,” he replied but his eyes were on Maddie. His ass was grinning like a fool.

“Ay, what’s up? Y’all seem mighty cozy. You trying to slow down for her?”

“Maybe, but we still new. I’m just rolling with it for now.”

“She know that? ’Cause the way she looking at you makes me think her mind is made up.”

“Word, you think she feeling me like that?”

“Your ass. The fuck is up with that? I thought you were just rolling with it.”

“Shit, I am, but that don’t mean I don’t want to know what’s up. She talks to Sophie about me?”

“Hell, I don’t gotdamn know. Ask Sophie, you act like we sit around discussing your ass. Trust, that ain’t the case. The only man she’s worried about is me.”

“See, there you go with all that. You sound jealous as fuck right now, Troop. That’s the beginning of the end. Two point five. I’m just saying.”

“Oh, how cute. What’s this, a double date?”

Los and I looked up when we heard Orin’s voice. That was the last thing I needed. I wasn’t in the mood to fuck up her life but I would.

“Ah shit, I hope you know how to handle her ass, Troop.”

Los and I both started toward Orin standing with the same muthafucker she had been with at the black-tie event.

“You have got to be fucking kidding me. So that wasn’t just a one-time thing, you’re really dating him, Maddie?” Dude moved closer to her with both hands in his pockets as he glared her way.

I checked Los real quick and this fool was moving faster than me.

“Yes, but what difference does it make? You’re obviously dating that, so we’ve both moved on, which is what you wanted, right?”

“The fuck am I missing?” I mumbled as we got to them.

“Ay, we got a problem, fam?”

“I am not your anything and definitely not your fam,” dude said, scowling at Los who had inserted himself between Maddie and dude.

Los looked him up and down then spoke. “Your bitch ass. Yo, who dis, Maddie?”

“I’m her husband. Who the fuck are you?”

“Oh, so you the pussy trying to fuck her out of what she deserves? Damn, Maddie, you said he was weak, but I didn’t think you meant this muthafucking weak. No wonder he couldn’t make you cum.” Los grinned and moved closer to dude.

I listened to them carrying on, ready to move on dude if need be, but kept my eyes on Orin.

I could tell from the look on her face she was out for blood.

It was about to be a problem. Sophie was on her feet, standing next to Maddie, now behind Carlos, like she was about to defend her girl.

I moved next to Sophie, knowing I would have to defend her from Orin, either verbally or physically.

“This has got to be a joke, but then again, I’m not surprised.

When I married you I couldn’t make you something you weren’t.

I’m not even upset about that, but since you’ve moved on as stated, we don’t have to worry about you getting shit from me.

Infidelity is a term of the prenup you signed.

Let him take care of you.” Dude took a step back and glared at her.

“You’s a soft, weak ass, pussy muthafucker. You mad ’cause she finally got some real dick in her life. A man willing to make her happy and you trying to cheat her out of what she earned. Ain’t you with that bitch?” Los said and pointed at Orin.

“Earned? She didn’t earn anything. I’m the one with the career, all she ever did was complain and spend my money. Who I’m with is no concern of…”

Los nailed his ass hard as hell, right in the face, and dude fell back over the ottoman behind him. It was funny as shit.

“Fuck you and your money. She’ll be good. Trust,” Los said and grabbed Maddie’s hand. “Ay, we’re out. I’ll hit you later, Troop.”

I laughed as he pulled Maddie with him to the door of the rooftop. Yeah, he was feeling her.

“Trooper, can we go?” Sophie said, slipping her hand into mine.

And that was when it started.

“She got you like that, Trooper? I never knew you to take commands from a woman.”

I grilled Orin hard as fuck, but already knew it didn’t mean shit. Just seeing me with Sophie hurt. It was in her eyes.

“Mind your business, Orin,” I said before moving.

“Wait, what’s going on?” Sophie snatched away from me and looked between us. As far as she knew, I had only escorted Orin to her event. That was it. What I didn’t want was for Orin to tell her we were still fucking when Sophie and I got together.

“I’m not the only one who got a surprise tonight,” dude said with a smirk as he looked at Sophie. “Small world, I see.”

“You two know each other intimately?” Sophie questioned.

“Yes, but before you, so it’s not important.”

“Before?” Orin laughed. “Bitch, my juices were still on his lips for the first month you were together. In fact, I gave him head the night of the black-tie event. He didn’t tell you?

I hope you didn’t fuck him that night, but if you did, you’re welcome.

I handled that first nut for you. I know how Trooper likes to go all night after he gets that first one out of the way. ”

Sophie looked at me but didn’t say a word. I could read her every thought in her eyes and her expression before she walked off.

“But don’t worry, boo. I’m not one of those exes who can’t let go. I just figured I’d let you know what you were dealing with.” Orin yelled behind her right before I grabbed her by the neck and pulled her close.

“You just fucked up.” The scowl I wore was deadly. I saw it in her eyes as I let her go.

Now I had to chase Sophie down. I drove, so she couldn’t leave without me, but things with us were broken and I had no idea how to fix it.
