Chapter 38 #2

My eyes, which had been closed, popped open and a smirk crossed my face. Trooper was trying to use sex to change my mind.

“Positive.”

Trooper chuckled and dove in deeper. As if he’d planned it, Trooper found and touched places I didn’t know were available to him. My eyes closed and my teeth sank into my lip while I tried my best to accept what he was delivering.

Every time I threw it back, he hit me deeper, making sure to hold me against him so I had no relief.

“Hold, on, hold on… Just give me… oh shit.” I started rambling after he picked up his pace and his fingers created friction against my clit.

I was done for, and just as my body began to tremble, Trooper’s lips found my neck and sucked my skin.

I had too many sensations in different areas of my body, so I gave up and let go.

My orgasm brought his to the surface because a few pumps later he fell against my back and I felt his heavy breathing against my ear.

“I’ll find somebody else to share this with every night since you’re so positive you don’t want to marry me.” Trooper kissed my cheek, pulled out of me, and left the living room.

I rolled my eyes at his childish ass. Men always wanted to talk about women being insecure, but the second they felt like a woman could live without them, they turned into little boys.

I couldn’t even complain, because if his feelings were hurt, that meant he cared, and right now, that was all the confirmation I needed.

“Sophie, wake up.”

I felt Trooper’s lips on the side of my face and heard him whispering my name, but I was tired and didn’t want to move. Not being at work every day was making me lazy, but I’d deal with that later. Right now, I just wanted to sleep.

“I’m up,” I muttered lowly before tugging at the covers and pulling them around my body tighter. I heard Trooper chuckle before he spoke.

“I’m going to grab breakfast from that place you like down the street. I’ll be right back. You want coffee?”

“Mmmhmm,” I said, already drifting again and not trying to waste time processing whatever he said.

I assumed he figured that out too because I heard keys then my room got quiet.

Not long after, I was awakened again by the sound of my name, but my eyes opened quickly when I realized it wasn’t Trooper.

I sat up, pulling the covers tightly against my chest and trying to focus on the person standing at the foot of my bed.

“What are you doing in my apartment?”

“I need to talk to you.”

Oscar’s focus was on my body, naked, only covered by the sheet.

“No, we don’t need to talk. You need to get out of my apartment.

Are you crazy? You have no right to be in here,” I said, yelling as I narrowed my eyes at him.

All I heard in my head were all the warnings Trooper had given me about Oscar, and now here he was, standing at the foot of my bed with a crazy look in his eyes.

“Don’t be afraid of me, Sophie. Why do you look like you’re afraid of me? I wouldn’t hurt you. I love you. Don't you know that?” Oscar lifted his hand to scratch his head and it wasn’t until then that I realized he had a gun.

My palms sweat as my heartbeat picked up. My eyes kept moving toward my bedroom door, praying Trooper would walk through. I vaguely remembered him telling me he was leaving, but I couldn’t remember where he said he was going or when he’d be back.

“Stop looking at the door. Why are you looking at the door? Are you looking for him? Stop fucking looking for him, Sophie. I’m here telling you I love you and you’re still looking for him. What is wrong with you?”

Oscar started pacing at the foot of my bed, rattling off questions. I had no idea what he was saying because I couldn’t focus. I was too busy trying to figure out what I would do if he came near me.

He was taller than me, but not by much, and he wasn’t a big man. I might be able to fight him off, but I was naked and didn’t want to do that. I didn’t own or know how to use a gun, so I was pretty much trapped.

“Please calm down. I’m not looking at the door. I’m looking at you, okay? Please, just calm down.”

I glanced at my phone on the nightstand, but I couldn’t get to it without him seeing me.

“You’re looking at the gotdamn door!” he yelled, his eyes growing dark as he took a step toward the foot of the bed so his legs were touching it. Then he backed up and started pacing again.

“I love you so much and you’re still looking for him. What the hell is wrong with you? I don’t want to kill you, but I will. I swear I’ll kill you. I love you that much. I’ll fucking kill you, Sophie!”

He turned fast on his feet and pointed the gun at me. The crazy thing was it was like he couldn’t see me. His eyes were glossy and he looked totally out of it.

“You don’t have to do that. I love you too. You don’t have to kill me. Please don’t aim that at me,” I said calmly before my eyes moved toward the gun. I didn’t know what else to do but try to reason with him. Something wasn’t quite right and I didn’t want to die.

“You don’t love me. You just don’t want to die.”

I nodded as I spoke. “I do love you. I promise I do, just put the gun down please,” I said softly as I looked past him to see Trooper in my doorway.

He placed his finger over his lips so I wouldn’t acknowledge him, but he already had his gun aimed at Oscar's head as he moved toward him.

Oscar was so out of it that he didn’t even realize Trooper was in the room until the barrel of his gun met the back of Oscar’s head.

“Don’t fucking move or I will squeeze this trigger.”

As if he had no sense at all, Oscar started laughing. He held both hands up, tightening his grip on the gun before Trooper snatched it from him. He tossed both guns onto the bed before beating Oscar.

I jumped out of bed and grabbed Trooper’s shirt from the chair in the corner and pulled it on while I watched Trooper beat the life out of Oscar. I had never seen anything like this before in my life, and when blood started pouring from Oscar’s mouth onto my carpet, I screamed for Trooper to stop.

I was sure he would kill him. Oscar's face was swollen and bruised, but Trooper had him by the shirt as I watched his hand continuously rise and fall, making contact with Oscar until the last time I yelled his name. He stopped with his fist mid-air above Oscar's head.

Trooper looked over his shoulder at me. His eyes were dark and I couldn’t tell if he even recognized me until he spoke.

“Go into the living room.”

“No, you’re going to kill him.”

“Sophie, get the fuck out!” Trooper yelled, making my body jump from the bass in his voice.

I glanced at Oscar then back at Trooper before I turned to leave.

When I made it to the living room, I sat on the edge of the sofa with my knee bouncing as I stared at the TV, which wasn’t on.

I needed to focus on something, so that was it until I heard Trooper’s voice.

He moved my way, on the phone with someone, but he didn’t even acknowledge me.

He just went straight to the kitchen and turned on the water in the sink.

I stood and walked over to him, but stopped a few feet away, waiting while he spoke.

“Shit, I don’t know. One way in and one way out. I’m about to send her to my place. Just hurry up. We’ll figure it out when you get here. Probably in the lobby. Aight, bet.”

Trooper had his eyes on me the entire time he spoke to whoever was on the phone. When he ended the call, all he said was, “Stay here.”

I watched as he made his way back down the hall that led to my bedroom. When he came back, he had clothes for me.

“Get dressed.” He placed my clothes on the counter and left again, heading back to my bedroom.

I had no idea what was going on, but all I kept thinking about was if Oscar was still alive. There was no telling what he would have done if Trooper hadn’t gotten there in time, but was he dead? Had Trooper killed him?

A few minutes later, Trooper was on his way back down the hall again. He had my purse, which he placed on the counter before he closed his arms around me and lowered his chin on top of my head.

“I need you to go to my apartment. Go straight there, don’t stop. Your food is over there.”

He stepped back enough to kiss me then started walking away.

“What about you?” I said, causing him to turn and look at me, frustrated.

“Sophie, just go, please.”

“Is he…”

“Sophie, leave. I’ll call and check on you.” He pointed toward the elevator and left me standing there again.

I didn’t ask any more questions. I just grabbed my purse and left. Maybe it was just best if I didn’t know after all.
