Chapter 26

CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX

SPIDER

“Where the fuck have you been? You’re fucking twenty minutes late!” Ghost snaps as I walk into the club.

“Sorry, I needed to sort something out before I left,” I state.

“Yeah, you mean fucking sort her out.” Scar laughs.

Acid elbows him in the gut. “Shut the fuck up. That’s my sister, you dickhead.”

“I’m sorry, has Scar turned into the Hawk replacement, now that Hawk is settled down?” Star asks, looking at them.

“I’ve always been like this. It’s just this asshole stole the show. But now it’s my time to shine.” Scar winks.

“Don’t ever fucking wink at my wife like that again, or I will cut your dick off,” Ghost threatens.

Star smiles as she walks up to Ghost and places a soft kiss on his lips. “Don’t worry, Casper. I only have eyes for you,” she teases.

“Woman,” Ghost growls in warning.

“Yes, sir,” Star says, winking.

“Jesus, can you two keep it in your fucking pants for more than a second?” Cash mock gags.

Star rolls her eyes. “You’re no fun,” she tuts. “So, where is Nova? I was looking forward to grilling her for information about your sexcapades,” Star states, looking around.

“She wanted to stay at home. She’s feeling tired,” I explain.

“Well done, solider.” Star winks, laughing.

“You left her at home when Dean is fucking out there?” Acid snaps.

“We’re about to get him, plus look,” I say, pressing an app on my phone. It shows Nova in the kitchen just wearing one of my T-shirts cooking something. “I got a top of the line security system. She is safe. Plus, I was going to send a couple of the prospects over to keep watch on the place,” I explain.

Seeming satisfied with my answer, Acid nods. “You can only have one prospect. We’ve got the rest of the women and kids here,” Ghost states.

“Sure, I will just send Hannibal or Hap,” I state.

“No, have one of the new ones,” Ghost argues.

“No offence, but fuck off, Pres. If something went down, they wouldn’t know what to do,” I point out.

“Tiny! Bambi!” Ghost yells.

“Fucking Tiny and Bambi?” Star asks.

“Yeah, Tiny because well, just look at the fucker, and Bambi because he saw his mom get shot,” Cash explains.

Star turns around to see them enter, her mouth dropping open when she sees Tiny. “Jesus fucking Christ, he makes Beast look like a child,” she points out. “How tall are you?” she asks him.

“7 foot 2, ma’am,” he answers.

“Hell, I’m sorry, but I always thought Beast was a big motherfucker, but you… Bravo,” Star praises.

The prospect smiles. “Don’t fucking smile at my ol’ lady!” Ghost barks. The smile falls so quickly off his face it has me coughing back a laugh.

“And you can’t call him Bambi. He must be traumatised by what he went through,” Star argues.

“Bambi, do you mind being called Bambi?” Beast asks him.

“No, sir,” Bambi answers.

“See? Everyone is fucking happy. Now can we go back to the real reason we are all fucking here?” Ghost snaps. “Right, Tiny and Bambi, go keep watch outside Spider’s house. You notice anything suspicious, call us,” Ghost orders.

They both nod, but Bambi pauses. “Err, what would be classed as suspicious?” he asks.

“I don’t fucking know! Men breaking into the fucking property? Anyone other than us entering the fucking property! Nova fucking screaming for her life!” Ghost roars angrily. Bambi’s eyes go wide with fear.

“Ha, look at him. He even looks like a fucking deer caught in headlights.” Hawk laughs.

“Go, and if anything happens, call. If it’s a life or death situation, you lay down your fucking life for hers.” Ghost pauses. “Do you understand?” he asks. They both nod, but Bambi pauses, lifting a finger as if he’s about to ask a question. “I swear to fucking Christ, if you are about to ask me what constitutes as a life or death situation, I will show you my fucking self by putting a bullet between your fucking eyes!” Ghost roars.

Tiny grabs Bambi by the scruff of the neck and drags him out of the room for his own safety.

“Where did you get them?” Star asks, laughing. “Not the brightest.”

“Woman, I am close to losing my shit, so do not piss me off,” Ghost warns.

Star’s smile widens. Pissing Ghost off is her favourite thing to do. She stands in front of him, grabs his cut in her fists and stands on her tiptoes, yanking him closer and bringing his mouth down to hers. She breaks the kiss, whispering something in his ear that makes him smile.

She pats his chest and walks away. “Look after each other boys, and make sure you bring my man back in one piece,” she says as she walks into the kitchen.

We all look back to Ghost. “What?” he asks. “Stop staring at me. Let’s fucking go!” he yells.

“So how quick are we killing this fucker?” I ask as I walk outside with him.

“After what Star just promised me for when I get back, pretty fucking quickly.” He smiles.

I laugh and slap him on the back before I get on my bike and start her up. “Once we’ve got him, you can go back. I wouldn’t mind playing with him for a little while, and I’m sure Rage is more than willing to get creative,” I shout over the sound of our bikes.

“I’ve got my set with me.” Rage nods.

I smile at Ghost who just shakes his head. No one understands him, the loyal fucking psycho.

We ride for only twenty minutes until we reach the motel. All of us ride into the parking lot, blocking the exit with our bikes.

The motel manager comes out, his eyes wide with fear. “Uh, we are fully booked,” he stutters.

“Easy sir, we ain’t checking in. We are simply here to retrieve someone,” Beast states.

The guy nods, adjusting his glasses. “Okay, can I ask who?” he asks.

“His name’s Dean and he is in room 28,” Ghost states.

The manager nods as he grabs his huge ring of keys, sifting through them until he finds the right one. “Here it is,” he breathes with a sigh of relief.

Hawk takes the keys, and as he places his other hand down on his shoulder, he looks down at his name badge. “Thanks Ned. Now, why don’t you go and take a little break out the back while we speak to our friend in number 28?” Hawk suggests, giving Ned’s shoulder a little squeeze.

“Er.” He pauses, fiddling with his glasses. “Yes, right. I was due a break anyway,” he says nervously, smiling before he scurries off back to his office.

“Over there, far corner,” I say, pointing to the room.

“Let’s go. We get him, chuck him in the back of the truck and get out. Keep it clean until we have no witnesses,” Ghost warns. Rage, Cash, Beast, and Hawk all stay by the truck, looking out while Ghost, Acid, and I walk up to the room. As we reach the top step, Acid pauses, holding up his hand.

“Give me a cigarette,” he orders, holding out his hand.

I hand him my packet, frowning. “This ain’t no fucking time for a smoke break,” Ghost snaps.

Acid lights the cigarette, inhaling before he bends down and blows across the walkway. A faint line appears. “It’s a set-up,” Acid states. “Get the fuck out of here now,” he warns.

We turn and head back down the stairs, but before we can reach the bottom step, a loud explosion erupts above us. We dive forward, landing on the ground.

“Cover you head!” Acid yells. I tuck my head under my arms as the rubble from the building falls on us. Car alarms ring out, followed by a thick cloud of smoke surrounding us.

“Ghost! Acid!” I call out. My ears are ringing loudly from the blast.

“Alive!” Acid calls back.

There’s no response from Ghost. “Ghost!” I yell again. Getting to my feet, I cough. I quickly lift my T-shirt to cover my mouth, not wanting to inhale any more dust. “Ghost!” I repeat, trying to look for him, but the smog from the explosion is too thick.

“Got him!” Acid yells.

“Keep yelling!” I shout.

“Here,” Acid yells, over and over until I find them.

“Thank fuck,” I sigh as I see Acid alive. He has a cut to his cheek, but that’s it. I look down at Ghost and see he’s out cold, a large cut to his head. “Fuck.”

“Ghost!” I hear Beast yell.

“Over here!” I yell. I look over and as the smog begins to lift, I see them approach. “We need to get him to a hospital,” I state. Beast and Rage bend down and pick Ghost up. I wrap my arm around Acid, pulling him to me. “Glad you’re alive, brother,” I say, slapping my hand on his back.

He smiles. “I ain’t going nowhere.”

“Put me the fuck down,” Ghost complains.

We look down and see a pissed off Ghost. Beast and Rage quickly help him to stand.

“You need to be seen by a doctor. You were out cold,” I suggest.

He touches his cut, seeing the claret on his fingers. At the same time, the manager comes running out on the phone. “You!” Ghost barks. The manager turns petrified at his tone. “You got a first aid kit?” Ghost asks.

“Yes, but it’s only basic,” he whimpers.

“That will do. I ain’t going nowhere until we bury this fucker,” Ghost growls before storming off into the manager’s office.
