Introduction to Omegaverse
What is Omegaverse?
Omegaverse, or OV for short, is an alternative world where humans have unique biological and paranormal traits, such as finding fated mates, magical bites, and special sexual features.
Omegeverse is a very broad term and all authors do their worlds in a unique way. What might be true in my OV world might not be the same as other authors.
This is a non-shifting omegaverse.
Glossary
Alphas: Can be male or female but female alphas are much rarer.
Male alphas tend to be very dominant, aggressive, and have high levels of testosterone, which makes them larger in physical appearance.
They are known to be leaders, powerful, possessive, and at the top of the social hierarchy.
Due to forming packs with other alphas and pooling resources, they are mostly very rich or from rich families.
Omegas: Omegas are rare—less than 5 percent of the population—and male omegas are even rarer. They tend to be more submissive and gentle but it does depend on the omega.
Omegas are more flexible and can withstand vigorous physical activity, especially when it comes to sex, as well as being shorter than most betas. Alphas and omegas give off pheromones only they can smell, and have extremely high sex drives.
Unbonded alphas will go to great lengths to be around omegas and their main goal in life is to bond or be in a pack with one. Having an omega is the ultimate status symbol because of how rare they are.
Betas: Regular, everyday people, unaffected by pheromones. Betas mostly date and marry each other, as alphas and omegas have biological needs only the other can fulfill. Some packs do have betas but that is rare.
Packs: Most alphas form packs once they become adults, since combining finances means a better chance of getting and keeping an omega. Plus it provides instant community and a family if they’re ever lucky enough to find one.
If a pack gets an omega, they become the center and most important part of the group. Packed-up alphas live longer and have lower risks for all illness and disease, because an omega’s presence lowers stress. The richer an alpha or pack, the more likely they are to be selected by an omega.
Packs offer legal protections similar to a marriage and must be registered with the Department of Designation.
Knots: Male alphas have a unique feature on their penises.
Once they come, the base of their member swells to a ball-like shape called a “knot.” During intercourse with an omega, an alpha’s knot will inflate inside of the omega’s vagina or rectum, locking them in place until it deflates.
This can take a few minutes and up to an hour.
On a biological level, the knot is used to ensure intercourse results in a pregnancy.
Unless the omega is trying to get pregnant, it’s mostly just for fun.
Omegas need knots during their heats and it adds more sexual gratification for them.
*Knots are not recommended for betas.*
Slick: A sweet and natural lubricant produced by omegas when they experience arousal, pleasure, and orgasm. Alphas love the taste of it. Slick gives alphas energy, boosts their immune system, and improves cognitive function.
Nest/Nesting: A nest is an omega’s safe place. They tend to like small, enclosed areas, which are filled with comfort items and luxury, like super soft blankets, pillows, and low lighting. Only the omega and her chosen alphas are allowed into it.
When they are close to a heat, they will start nesting by making their nest perfect for their heat. They want their alphas’ scents, so omegas may take or demand their bedding and worn clothing. Omegas have been known to steal anything that smells like their alphas.
Heats: An omega’s reproductive cycle that starts once they reach eighteen or nineteen years old.
While betas have monthly periods, omegas experience a week-long sexual frenzy once or twice a year that sends them into a hazy mental state where they need to be regularly satisfied.
It is an unavoidable biological need for the omega to have sex nonstop and they need multiple alphas to satisfy them.
Omegas will experience devastating pain if their sexual needs are not met.
During this time, alphas experience an overwhelming and all-consuming need for their omega, resulting in a vivacious appetite for their omega’s pleasure.
Alphas may go into a “rut” at this time where they lose their minds as well and can only focus on their omega.
Once in heat, an omega will not want to eat, drink, or sleep for the entirety of the experience.
Omegas can only naturally conceive during heats but medication to start a heat is available if they wish to get pregnant earlier.
It’s a privilege to be entrusted with an omega’s heat.
Heat leave: The nine days of legally required time off work for omegas and alphas to prepare, have, and recover from a heat.
Medically supervised heats: Unbonded omegas who do not wish to spend their heats with alphas may choose a medically induced coma so they are not in pain.
MSH are not covered by insurance and an omega must pay thousands of dollars out of pocket. It involves fluid IVs, sedation, and nurses who will try and keep the omega as comfortable as possible until it is over.
Bonding: If an omega and alpha bite each other during a heat, it will create a mental link between them and they can sense each other's emotions and feelings, like pleasure or hunger.
If multiple alphas bite the same omega, all the alphas will be linked.
It is a lifelong bond that only breaks in death.
Bite guard: To ensure that no bonding takes place during a heat, some alphas need to wear a cover over their teeth since the urge to bond is very strong, especially for scent matches.
Heat suppressants: Medication that controls an omega’s heat. If they are not on suppressants, they will have a heat naturally.
Faux heat: A fake heat some omegas will experience if they have delayed their heats for too long. They will feel tired and experience flu-like symptoms, as well as extreme bouts of sexual urges during that time, their bodies demanding a proper heat.
Scent matches: A fated mate. Through their sense of smell, omegas can tell who is destined to be with them as a perfect partner on a biological level. Omegas tend to have multiple scent matches and will form a pack with them.
Scent blockers: Medication that suppresses the alpha or omega’s personal scent so it is not perceived by others.
Alpha bark: An aggressive tone of voice alphas use to get omegas to do something or a command. Omegas do not like this.
Omega distress pheromone: A bitter scent an omega gives off when they are very scared or in great distress. Most alphas cannot stand the smell and will do anything to make the omega in distress feel better.
Omega sugar baby: An omega who only dates alphas in exchange for financial gain.
Omegas receive financial gifts, travel, and presents from chosen alphas in exchange for dating, friendship, or intimacy.
It is a transactional relationship for mutual benefit, focusing on improving the life of both parties in romantic and non-romantic ways.
Sugar babies work with two types of alphas:Clients and donors.
Client: Alphas who have guaranteed time with their sugar baby on a regular basis. They pay a monthly fee, plus gifts and vacations. Intimacy is an option if the sugar baby is sexually interested in the client, but not a requirement.
Donor: Donors are alphas who want to be clients.
They send sugar babies money and gifts, receiving limited time and access to a sugar baby.
It’s part of the vetting process to see if they would make good clients or for one-time events like weddings or work events.
This stage is typically platonic and non-sexual.
