Chapter 29
Declan
A fter returning home from the lake, we pick up Kenzi and quickly settle into a routine. With no word on Derek’s whereabouts in town, we almost become complacent over the next several weeks. I’m living the dream of being able to have Kenzi and Savannah with me every single day.
Mom still watches Kenzi, and Savannah has accepted my job offer. Taking her to the small building on the other side of the mountain, I unlock the door. It’s been several months since I’ve been inside. Everything about the business as far as administrative work has been neglected. I dragged my feet on hiring anyone because I knew it would be a woman and I didn’t want one in my office. Trusting someone was something I wasn’t ready to do before Savannah. No one has been answering the phones or filing the paperwork. In fact, there is an enormous stack of paperwork that I never filled out. There is a counter at the front with a phone and stool, where the customers or the guys from my crew can come in and talk to someone, usually a secretary. I haven’t had one in years since Lisa got pissed off and jealous and ran my old one away. She was sixty-six years old and there was absolutely nothing going on between us, but Lisa came in and scared the hell out of the woman until she quit.
As we walk inside, Savannah gasps at the sight of the mess. The air is stale from a lack of air flow. Similar to a musty closet that is never opened. There are stacks of paper on every surface and the filing cabinet has drawers hanging open, with paper hanging out of it.
“I’m sorry that nothing is organized. This is why Mason suggested I get you to work here. I need someone to answer the phones, file and fill out paperwork, and keep the business running so that I can go out in the field and deal with cutting and processing the trees. The lumberyard also needs lots of customer service and organization.”
Savannah soon gets to work, and every time I come into the office it’s more organized. Papers are neatly stacked, filed, or organized. I have bills that are actually paid and checks from people who previously I could never get to pay. It’s increased my profit in just a short time. The guys have even started coming in and love Savannah being here to help keep everything flowing. They tease me because I’m happy and smile more. I bring in pics of Kenzi and show them my beautiful little girl. I’m so proud of her.
One night after coming home, I notice Savannah isn’t around, which is odd, as she’s usually cooking dinner or in the living room. Walking through the cabin, I see Kenzi playing on the floor with her princess dolls. “Where’s Mommy?”
“She’s in the bafroom. Her sick.”
“Sick?” This sends panic through me as I quickly make my way to the bathroom and hear her throwing up.
“Baby? Savannah, open the door.” I hear more vomiting as I squeeze my eyes together at the sound, flinching at the way she must be feeling.
“No, I don’t want you to see me like this. It’s gross.”
“Savannah, open the fucking door or I’m knocking it down.”
“Fine,” she snaps, and I hear the lock, and then the door opens slowly.
She is pale, and her forehead is covered in beads of sweat. Her eyes look weak.
“What’s wrong, baby?” I reach up and place my hand on her cheek, feeling to see if she’s feverish.
“It’s just the flu or a stomach bug, Declan. Don’t worry, I’m fine. Lately, I’ve been exhausted from cleaning up and reorganizing the office and taking care of Kenzi when I get home. I know you try your best to help and I appreciate it. I’ll be fine.”
“You’re taking a few days off. I want Mom to still watch Kenzi so you can get some rest while we are out during the day.”
Mom picks Kenzi up in the morning to save us both from having to go down the mountain. I leave Savannah in bed to rest, but she’s still throwing up every morning and by the third morning, I’ve had enough.
“Savannah, don’t you think you need to see a doctor?” I ask concerned.
“It’s just a stomach bug, Declan. Stop hovering and coddling me.”
I’m going to hover over her and coddle her anytime that she’s feeling bad. “It’s my job to take care of you. You’re in denial or avoiding what’s happening because you know the symptoms are obvious.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” she snaps as she walks away from me.
Deciding to give her a couple more days to accept what I already know; I allow her to have some time.
Leaving to go to work the next morning, I know I’m going to have to put my foot down and make Savannah at least take a pregnancy test or see a doctor. I’m sure that’s what’s wrong with her, but she’s avoiding the topic. Her asshole ex treated her like dirt when he found out she was pregnant with Kenzi, so I suspect she’s got some kind of residual anxiety about it .
However, she’ll soon see I won’t be angry or mistreat her. I’ve been very clear that I intended to get her pregnant. In the past, she has admitted that she wants a large family, and that’s exactly what she’s going to get. We never use protection. Every day I shoot a load of cum into her and tell her I’m going to fuck a baby into her. She can’t really be that oblivious. It’s just fear.
“Savannah, you have today to accept what’s happening or I’m going to throw you over my shoulder and take you to the doctor myself.”
“You can’t throw me over your shoulder every time I don’t do what you want me to, Declan.” She rolls her eyes and walks away.
“Woman, I will do whatever I have to when it comes to keeping you healthy. How many times do I need to tell you I take care of what’s mine?”
After tucking her back into bed, I feed Kenzi waffles for breakfast.
“Mama sick.”
“Yeah, Princess, Mama is sick.”
“Daddy kiss Mama better?”
When the word daddy comes out of Kenzi’s mouth, my heart swells and I want to jump for joy. Finally, she gets that I’m her daddy. That I will do anything to keep her happy and safe.
Smiling at her, I say, “Yes, Princess, I kiss Mama better. She has a stomachache, but she’s okay. ”
“I wuv you, Daddy.”
Tears well up in my eyes. “I love you, Kenzi, more than anything.”
She wraps her little arms around my neck and gives me a hug. I’ve noticed lately her pronunciation of words is improving. She’s still got some baby talk, but she’s growing up fast. It’s so cute and I hate to see her lose that.
Hearing a sniffle coming from the doorway, I look over and spot Savannah, who has tears running down her cheeks at the scene in front of her. With a warm smile, she backs away, giving us our moment alone.
Savannah has given me the greatest gift by bringing me Kenzi. I can’t wait to tell Mom, Mason, and Kenzi there’s a bun in the oven.
