Chapter 23

Natasha

Cameron’s fierce eyes meet mine. “Well?”

I swallow uncomfortably, holy mother of God.

“What do you mean, Cameron?” I ask as I step back from him defensively.

“I mean…how do you know Joshua’s blood type?” he snaps.

I frown at him. “I looked on his chart in the hospital. How did you think I knew? What’s this about?”

He narrows his eyes at me and steps back as he seems to regain his composure. “Nothing… I’m just having a weird day.” He runs his hands through his hair in frustration as he shakes his head.

“Cameron, if something is wrong involving Joshua I would like to know about it,” I question.

He studies my face as he assesses me. “Like I said, nothing is wrong. I’m going back to the room to see Gran. I will see you up there.” With that he leaves the room in a rush.

Hmm, ok, I rub my eyes in frustration. Shit, that was close.

I’m starting to perspire from nerves. Cameron is onto something and I need to find out just exactly what that is and what the hell I am going to do about it.

Joshua

I sit in the hospital room as the nurses prepare to take the blood, my mind in a rush.

Max just called me to let me know that Coby Allender has been googling Natasha from his computer in jail…

what does that mean? Who is this nut job and what does he want?

His trial is on Wednesday and the word is that the police don’t have enough evidence to prove he committed the murders, but they know he did it.

More than likely, he will get an innocent verdict in court.

Is Natasha in danger if he gets out? Max seems to think that she is.

My stomach churns. This is another total mess that I don’t have time for.

Natasha walks into the consultation room and smiles at me warmly. That’s all it takes to make me weak…and calm. Her beautiful smile complete with those dimples.

“Are you ok?” she whispers as she gently kisses my cheek and runs her hand over my hair.

“I am now,” I smile. Why does she make me so needy? I take her hand in mine.

“How did you know I had this type of blood?” I ask.

“I saw it on your chart in the hospital in LA.” She kisses me again.

I nod and she sits quietly in the chair in the corner of the room. “Is the child going to be ok?” she asks.

I nod. “I think so, they take the blood and screen it and then give it to him.”

The nurse walks back in the room and starts to prepare to take the blood and we both sit silently watching her. My eyes linger on my beautiful girl who is deep in concentration watching the nurse. She pulls her glasses from her bag so she can see what is going on and I smile at her.

“What?” she mouths as she smirks.

I shake my head. I’ve never known a woman who is so damn sexy in glasses. Her intelligence is a huge trigger to my libido.

Ten minutes later we have finished and are walking back to the room, and we stop off to get a coffee from the cafeteria.

The fawning of the girls behind the counter is actually getting embarrassing.

It’s ok when Cam is here because he loves to flirt but I just find it downright embarrassing when he’s not there.

“Hello, Joshua,” one of the girls coos.

I smile and nod as I dip my head. “Hello,” I reply. They all giggle.

Natasha looks at me deadpan. “How does she know your name?” She raises an eyebrow as she folds her arms in front of her.

I smirk. “Because she puts it on my coffee every day,” I answer. Natasha screws up her face at me. “I bet she does.” She puts a finger in her mouth to symbolize she’s going to be sick and I give her a wink. I love it when she gets jealous.

“Must be that penis in my pants,” I smirk as I raise my eyebrow in jest.

“Hmm, you mean the one I am just about to cut off as an optional extra,” she whispers as she looks around in annoyance.

“Or suck,” I whisper back as I lean in and kiss her cheek. “No. Not happening, no sucking tonight, Stanton,” she

smirks as she takes a seat.

“We’ll see,” I smile.

We wait for our coffee in silence, her phone is on the table and beeps a message at the same time she goes to get the coffees from the counter. I read it, it’s from someone called Jes.

I’m at the gym and haven’t seen you for forever.

I’m coming over to yours tonight.

She comes back and sits down with our coffees. “Jes messaged you and she’s coming over tonight,” I remark as I take my coffee from her hand.

“Huh?” She frowns as she looks at her phone.

“Your friend Jes texted.”

She snatches the phone from the table as she sits and reads the message. “Huh, so she is, fancy that.” She takes a large gulp of her coffee and then spits it onto the table.

“Fucking fish face makes the coffee too fucking hot,” she snaps as she grabs a napkin and wipes her mouth.

I laugh out loud. “Fish face, who is fish face?”

“The idiot behind the counter who looks like a fish,” she stammers with the napkin over her face as she looks around in embarrassment.

I can’t help it, I laugh out loud again.

“My tongue has third degree burns from that bitch,” she stammers. “Surely you don’t have to ask for coffee to be at a drinkable temperature, now do you?”

I shrug. “Mine’s fine.”

“Yes, well you’re good looking with a penis. We already know that,” she mutters as she wipes the table.

“What time is your friend coming over?” I ask. “Do I know her?”

Her eyes meet mine. “No, not really. I’m going to text her and tell her not to come. I want you to myself.”

She starts to text and I feel a contentment sweep over me as I lean back in my chair and drink my coffee. Bridget walks in and over to us.

“Don’t get the coffee unless you want a tongue transplant,” Natasha snaps as she keeps texting.

Bridget laughs. “Mmm, fish face to the rescue again hey.”

I raise my eyebrows as I smirk again. “You call her fish face as well?” I ask.

“With those silicone lips that title is well deserved,” Bridget mutters as she searches for her wallet in her handbag.

“Who are you texting?” Bridget asks Natasha.

“Umm, you know Jes, my girlfriend from work.” Bridget frowns.

“No.”

“Don’t worry then,” Natasha snaps as she puts her phone onto the table. She glares at Bridget.

“For God’s sake, go and tell her the coffee is too hot if it’s that much of an issue,” Bridget sighs.

My phone rings. It’s Murph and I answer. “Hello.”

“We got a problem.”

I frown. “We do?” I ask as I sit in my chair.

“Hooker says she is sending the email tonight to Natasha if you don’t ring her immediately.”

My eyes flick to the girls who are deep in discussion and I stand and walk over to the window.

“What do you mean?” I answer angrily. “I don’t want to speak to her.” I look back towards the girls to ensure they can’t hear what is being said.

“Yes, I know,” he answers quietly.

“I thought you said you were handling this,” I whisper angrily as my blood pressure rises.

“Look, I think we should go to the police,” he says flatly.

I frown and look out the window and into the parking lot below. “It will be too late then. I’m warning you, Adrian, if Natasha sees this tape someone is going to die,” I whisper angrily as I look around again.

He stays silent as he thinks.

“Well, what do you want to do then?” he asks.

I try to think of a solution. “Hack Natasha’s email and crash the system to give me time to think.”

“I don’t know how to do that.”

“Get someone else to fucking do it then,” I snap as my angry eyes glare at Ben who is standing at the back of the cafeteria. He frowns in question.

“I think the less people who know about this the better. You had better come back here and do it yourself,” Adrian asserts.

I roll my eyes in frustration. “Fine. See you soon.” I hang up angrily and turn to see Tash and Didge still deep in discussion. What in the hell am I going to say about where I am going? I have just told her I want to stay home alone with her tonight.

Ben walks over to me. “Is everything ok?” he asks.

I glare at him. “No, everything is not ok,” I whisper. “Because of your staff’s incompetence the hooker is sending the email to Natasha tonight.” I rub my forehead in frustration.

His eyes widen.

“Ben, I will say this once, if Natasha sees the tape some- one’s head is going to roll.”

He shakes his head in frustration. “Josh, I don’t know what to say. I don’t know how this has happened.”

“Do I need to remind you?” I snap angrily and walk back to the girls. I take a seat back at the table and my eyes linger on Natasha’s beautiful face with my heart pounding in my chest. Maybe I should just tell her.

Natasha smiles and takes my hand over the table and I feel myself melt a little.

“How’s your tongue?” I smirk.

“Burnt to oblivion,” she replies flatly.

I smile. I can’t tell her. Who am I kidding? I need to find out her email addresses so I can hack the systems. How in the hell am I going to do that? This is abysmal.

I need to speak to Cameron. He’ll think of something, he always does. “I’m going to go back upstairs. I will meet you up there,” I say as I squeeze Natasha’s hand across the table, and she smiles.

“Okay, see you up there,” she replies.

I stand and leave the cafeteria. I need to find Cameron…and fast.

Natasha

I watch Joshua leave the cafeteria followed by his security team. “Oh my God, Bridget, this is a disaster,” I stammer as I grab her arm over the table.

She frowns. “What is?”

“Jesten, that’s who. He texted me, and Josh read the text and now I have lied to Joshua and he thinks Jes is a girl.”

She rolls her eyes as she drinks her coffee. “Just tell Jes you are back with Josh, easy.”

“I’m going to eventually, but they are fighting each other next week in the stupid cage fighting shit and Jesten will bait Joshua even more if he knows that we are back together and we both know Joshua will kill Jesten even harder if he knows we are friends now,” I stammer, exasperated. She screws up her face in disgust.

“I’m too tired for this shit and you can’t kill someone harder. If they are dead, they are dead.”
