Chapter 17 #7

I gasped when his teeth raked my throat, my nails digging into his shoulders in response. The pain-pleasure of it sent lightning through my body, making me clench around him. He growled against my throat, his hips bucking upward suddenly, driving deeper.

"Fuck you," I hissed, grinding down harder.

Something snapped in me then. I shoved him backward onto the bed, my hands pinning his wrists above his head. His eyes burned up at me, pupils blown wide with desire. I rode him mercilessly, using him for my pleasure, watching his face contort as I changed my angle, as I took him deeper.

"Is this what you wanted?" I demanded, sweat beading on my skin. "To have me like this?"

"Yes," he admitted, the word torn from him.

I increased my pace, my thighs burning with the effort. His wrists strained against my grip, but he didn't break free. The friction was exquisite, his thick length hitting places inside me that made my vision blur.

Without warning, he surged upward, breaking my hold, and flipped us. My back hit the mattress hard enough to knock the breath from my lungs. Now he loomed over me, his hands gripping my thighs, spreading me wider.

"My turn," he growled.

He drove into me with savage force, each thrust followed by the creaking protest of the ancient bed. I arched against him, my nails raking down his back, leaving angry red lines across the scars.

"I hate you," I gasped, even as my body screamed in pleasure, tightening around him, pulsing and throbbing.

"I know," he said, slamming into me hard at the same time he pulled on my hair, tipping my head back against the pillow. "Tell me again."

"I hate you," I repeated, pulling him down for a bruising kiss, biting his lower lip hard enough to taste copper. "I hate what you've done to me."

He groaned into my mouth, his hands sliding beneath my hips to angle me higher. The change in position sent him impossibly deeper. I wrapped my legs around his waist, using the leverage to roll us again. We tumbled across the narrow bed until I was on top once more, my hands braced on his chest.

"Look at me," I demanded, slowing my pace to a torturous grind. "Look at what you can never, ever have again."

Naked hunger and something far more dangerous flared behind his eyes, which had darkened nearly to black now. His hand slid between our bodies, fingers finding my center with unerring accuracy. I gasped as he circled my swollen and sensitive clit, my rhythm faltering.

I leaned down, my hair forming a curtain around our faces as I kissed him again.

He took advantage of my momentary distraction, rolling us yet again until he had me pinned beneath him.

This time, he hooked my leg over his shoulder, opening me completely to his assault.

The new angle was devastating, each thrust sending shockwaves through my core.

"Cypher," I moaned, unable to contain it any longer. "Please..."

"Please what?" he demanded, never slowing his relentless pace. Sweat glistened on his brow, on the hard planes of his chest, dripping onto me from above. "Tell me what you need. I'll give you anything. You want the cold, blackened heart beating in my fucking chest? Have it. Take it."

Something in my chest cracked, and I wanted to scream. It wasn't fair. Why did he have to make me feel this way? Why did he have to hurt me? Why did I have to fall for a monster?

"Make it all go away…" A single tear dripped down from the corner of my eye, and I hoped he didn't see it.

He bent down, claiming my mouth in a kiss that was surprisingly, infuriatingly gentle.

His hand slipped between us again, fingers moving in tight circles.

It was too much. I shattered around him, my back arching off the bed as waves of pleasure rolled through me.

I cried out his name, the sound echoing in the small cabin as my eyes rolled back in my head, my thighs trembling around his hips.

He followed moments later, his rhythm faltering as he buried himself deep. His whole body tensed, muscles straining as he moaned my name into the crook of my neck.

For several heartbeats, we remained frozen like that, both trembling.

Then he collapsed beside me, both of us gasping for breath.

The crystal's blue light cast deep shadows across our sweat-slicked skin.

Neither of us spoke. What was there to say?

This hadn't solved anything. If anything, it made everything more complicated.

I stared up at the ceiling, acutely aware of his presence beside me, of the heat radiating from his body. I couldn't shake the feeling that we made a mistake. That this was something we wouldn't be able to come back from.

"This changes nothing," I finally said, sounding hollow.

"I know," he replied, and I could hear the resignation there, the wall of ice forming between our bodies.

I sat up, wincing slightly at the pleasant soreness between my thighs. I needed to find my clothes, needed to put distance between us before I did something truly stupid—like curl into his arms and pretend, just for a little while.
