Chapter Twenty-Eight Katy #2

‘I’m literally standing here with your fucking jizz running down my leg and you’re telling me you regret that it’s happened?

’ She was shaking with pure rage. ‘Look at the position you’ve put me in.

I’m getting stalked because you can’t keep that dick of yours away from me!

And now that I’ve done this again, fuck knows what will happen when the weirdo stalker finds out! ’

She shook her head, seething.

Travis’s shoulders dropped. ‘That’s not what I meant, Katy. We can fix all of this,’ he said, his tone more understanding now, reaching out to touch her hair.

She swatted his hand away and stood back, shaking her head.

‘No, I’ve got it, Travis. Just stay away from me, OK?’ She opened the door, ‘You better tidy this shit up. No doubt your wife will start to ask questions!’ Tears filling her eyes, she slammed the door shut behind her, leaving Travis surrounded by mess.

Katy stormed out of the kitchenette and headed straight to the toilets to get rid of any evidence that Travis had just pumped her in the snack closet. She sat in a toilet cubicle, running her hands through her hair, making sure all traces of the cereal were gone.

Who could the stalker be? And why the fuck did I do that?

She felt water drip onto her knees and sat up, realising she was crying. As she spotted the tears, she also noticed a white snail trail of semen resting gloopily on her thigh.

‘Ewww,’ she moaned, scooping it up with her finger. She let out a puff of defeat, tugging at some toilet paper to wipe it off.

She heard the bathroom door open and remained rigid in case Travis had decided to follow her in and make a scene. Though she felt sure, he didn’t have the balls to do that.

‘Those fucking girls are taking over, I swear to God.’ It was someone speaking on the phone in the bathroom. Katy’s head tilted, her ears pricking up.

‘Oh, yeah. They want to totally change the PR plan, and now they’ve clicked their little Scottish fingers, everyone is running.

And their idea is good.’ The voice sounded worried, like a solid PR plan wouldn’t benefit everyone at the company.

‘You assured me they wouldn’t pull through. You told me they’d fuck up!’

Katy very slowly and carefully stood up from the toilet, pulling up her knickers as quietly as possible. She turned to the toilet pan and delicately hobbled onto it, peering up over the stall.

‘I’m so sick of it. You have leverage, and we had an agreement.’

Katy, spotting Britney’s pale face, clutching her phone to her ear, covered her mouth to stifle a gasp.

‘Well, you know I don’t have shit on them. The blonde one is so far up Jimmy’s ass,’ Britney tittered. ‘Yeah, well, whatever your plan is, do it quicker! You promised me this would work.’

Katy could taste the salty residue of the cum wipe, her face squirming at the thought. Spitting out the taste, she ducked as Britney turned, as if hearing a noise.

‘I gotta go. I’ll call you tomorrow.’

Several long seconds of silence passed. Katy remained crouched on top of the toilet. She wondered if Britney was going to boot the cubicle door in, or would she stick her head under the weirdly huge space between the door and the floor.

Finally, she heard the door open and then slam shut.

‘What the fuck!’ she hissed in the quiet of the empty bathroom.

She lowered herself back down to the ground, full of questions. So, Britney was in on it, but with whom?

She allowed a few more minutes to pass before leaving the cubicle in case Britney was lurking outside. Then she washed her hands and power-walked to the tech department to fill Zola in on the crazy fifteen minutes she’d just had.

The technical department was a whole suite filled with giant screens, monitors and partially dismantled computers, which Ethan would occasionally mess around with between projects. Katy walked up to the coding room, where Ethan and Zola sat in silence at their desks.

‘Zola!’ Katy called out from the door.

Ethan pushed his chair back from his desk.

Zola watched his uncomfortable reaction, then turned her gaze to Katy. ‘Babe, you shouldn’t be here. Ethan doesn’t like visitors.’ She cut a look over to Ethan, who was pressing his back against the wall.

‘It’s not that I don’t like visitors, Zola. I don’t like change,’ Ethan replied.

Katy smiled understandingly. ‘Oh, yeah. Sorry, Ethan. I find change annoying too.’

He relaxed his shoulders and sighed, slowly returning to his station.

‘I’ll meet you outside in five?’ Zola said.

‘Stay.’ Ethan hummed. ‘It must be important. Her eyes are red, and her skin is blotchier than usual.’

Katy glanced down at her pale arms, noticing the red blotches seeping through.

Zola paused, turning to Ethan. She waited until he was fully engrossed in his computer, then spoke. ‘Did you get another message?’ she mumbled under her breath.

Katy nodded, stepped forward, and handed Zola her phone. ‘And, when I was in the toilet, I heard Britney on the phone talking about us. She was moaning to someone about the PR strategy changing and talking about leverage and going on about the fact they had an agreement!’

Zola seemed shocked. ‘An agreement about what?’

Katy shrugged. ‘I have no idea who she was on the phone with, but it was something about this.’ She nudged her head towards her own phone.

Ethan stood up. ‘Perhaps I’ll let you two talk privately,’ he said, making his way out of the room. As he passed Katy, he attempted a smile.

When the door was closed, Katy divulged her last half-hour sexcapade, her toilet jizz accident, then what she’d heard of Britney’s phone call.

Zola paced the room like she’d been listening to an episode of Jeremy Kyle, but Katy knew that even Jeremy and his aftercare team would not be able to sort this shit out.

Zola bit her nails, then turned to Katy. ‘What the fuck? What the actual fuck?’

Katy moaned, shaking. ‘I know, Zola. He was just there, and we were in this wee romantic cupboard and—’

‘Romantic cupboard? Did the Pop Tarts turn you on, babe?’ Zola interrupted, letting out a slow exhale. ‘OK, right. So, we know it’s not Travis. He was there when the text came through, right?’

Katy nodded. ‘Right.’

‘And we know it’s not Jimmy if Britney said on the phone that Ella’s up his arse? Right?’

‘Uh-huh, and we also know it’s not us,’ Katy concluded.

Zola rolled her eyes. ‘No shit, Miss Marple.’ She began pacing again, trying to piece everything together.

‘This is bigger than us creating this app. There’s some seriously shady shit going down in this company, and whoever it is doing the texting wants us to leave it alone.

They’re watching us, and not afraid to let us know that. ’

Katy seemed startled at the idea. ‘What if they hurt us? What if we don’t leave and they hurt us, Zo?’ Katy’s bottom lip trembled in fear as she whispered, ‘They have guns here!’

Zola wrapped her arms around her. ‘And we have us, working as a team. We need to get one step ahead, like really start digging. We know Britney is involved, and that’s actually good for us. I’ll try to find a way to hack her emails, see what turns up.’

‘We need to tell Ella.’ Katy nodded, her chin on Zola’s shoulder. ‘Let’s go, Zo.’

The two friends headed out of the door and noticed Ethan sitting on a desk outside. Zola jumped, still on edge.

‘Sorry, I thought you’d gone to grab a coffee or something,’ Zola replied, attempting a smile and trying as hard as she could not to seem startled.

Ethan stood up, his eyes on Katy. ‘I only drink coffee at eight a.m.’

‘Right. Well, thanks for giving us the room,’ Zola said, stepping away.

‘How are you doing?’ Ethan asked Katy.

She smiled at him. ‘I’ll be fine, thank you.’

He paused, looking unsure of what to say next.

‘I’ll see you tomorrow, Ethan,’ Zola said, attempting to end the awkward encounter. She tugged on Katy’s arm, dragging her back towards the main office.

Katy swivelled her head back for a second look. ‘He’s cute.’

‘That’s the most he’s ever spoken to me,’ Zola admitted, a confused look on her face. ‘Now let’s fill Ella in on everything.’

‘He seems nice,’ Katy replied, still getting dragged along behind a storming Zola.
