Chapter 10 Yale
Chapter ten
Yale
“Why do you look like that?” I asked Amethyst as I took a seat at the table.
I heard him the moment he started moving around the kitchen.
He was big on breakfast, and the kitchen was always his domain, which I loved because I hated to cook.
I did it to survive, and even though I was good at it, it would never be something I enjoyed doing.
When I walked into the kitchen, my mouth watered at the sight of pancakes, eggs, bacon, fruit, and a pitcher of juice already sitting on the table.
“Like what?” he asked as he cleaned the counter. I walked to the table, took my seat, and smiled. I was going to eat good this morning.
“Like you want to slap someone,” I answered as I picked up the juice and poured a glass. When Amethyst didn’t respond, I looked up to see him staring at me. “You want to smack me?”
“Stop playing, Sunshine,” he smirked, then shook his head. His hair was down, and I wanted to wrap the ringlets around my fingers. I loved his hair; from the moment he agreed to grow it out years ago, I was instantly drawn to it. “I’d never hit you.”
“That look says otherwise,” I laughed and set the pitcher back on the table. “Now tell me what’s wrong.”
“I’m good, Sunshine,” he said, shaking his head. “Just eat so we can go to your appointment.”
“You’re just dropping me off,” I said, looking at him, slightly confused. “You’re not going in.”
“Why the fuck not?” He dared to look confused, and it took everything in me not to laugh.
“Amethyst, I’m going to a consultation; you don’t need to be there,” I said, then started making our plates.
Even though the food was done, I knew Amethyst didn’t eat without me because he never did.
Whenever we ate together, we always broke bread together.
It didn’t matter if we had to wait for the other person; we ate together.
“I’m going, Sunshine,” he said as he washed his hands at the sink. When he was done, he dried them on a napkin and came to sit next to me. He put his hands out for me to take, dropped his head, and then said a quick prayer.
“You are not going in with me,” I said once he was done. He lifted his head, and his left brow went up in surprise. “I’m not playing, Amethyst.” He picked up his fork and started eating.
“Why can’t I go?” he asked in between bites of his food. “You’ve been to the doctor with me.”
“I’ve been to the eye doctor with you,” I corrected him, and he shrugged. “This is a private meeting.”
“What can she tell you that I can’t know?
” he questioned, and I shook my head. I would eventually tell him what this appointment was for, but right now I wanted to keep it private.
The conversation of kids with Amethyst was always tricky.
I knew he wanted them, but whenever I brought it up, he would always change the subject, as if we would eventually have them.
“Sunshine, you’re going to tell me anyway, so you might as well just let me go so I can be there and not get on your nerves later with questions. ”
“You’re going to do that anyway,” I laughed, and he smirked. I sat back in my seat, crossed my arms, and sighed. “Amethyst, this is serious.”
“I know, which is why you aren’t going alone,” he nodded.
“I’m going to get an exam,” I said, and he shrugged. “That means my pussy is going to be out.”
“Does it stink?” he questioned, and I rolled my eyes. This nigga always had something smart to say.
“No, Amethyst,” I sighed. “It doesn’t stink.”
“You want me to look at it or something?”
“No!” I yelled, even though the thought of Amethyst between my legs always lurked in the back of my mind.
I didn’t want him to look at it; that wasn’t true.
I didn’t want him to just look at it. He could look, touch, lick, fuck, talk to it, caress it.
I honestly didn’t care what he did as long as he did something.
I had to squeeze my legs together at the thought of him being between my legs, and I dropped my head.
“What are you yelling about?” he chuckled. “I was just saying, you trippin’ off of me being in the room and your pussy out. Sunshine, I’ve seen you in damn summer dresses or whatever they’re called. Yo ass didn’t wear panties then, and you don’t trip off me being around. Why start now?”
“First off, how do you know I don’t wear panties?” I questioned.
“I’m a man, baby girl,” he said, then licked his plump lips. “I see what I need to.”
“Whatever,” I said, waving him off. He’d given me the sexiest look, and now the little bit of control I had over my body was slowly slipping away. “Don’t worry about what I wear.”
“Sunshine, get to your point,” he requested, then leaned back in his seat and stretched his long legs out around my chair. “Because I feel like you’re wasting my time right now with a request that’ll never happen.”
“I don’t even remember what we were talking about at this point,” I laughed, and he smirked.
“Me being at your doctor’s appointment,” he said, and I nodded.
“Right, this was an appointment for me and Grant.”
“Fuck Grant,” he grunted, and I lifted my brow in surprise.
Over the years, I intentionally kept Grant and Amethyst apart.
It was the only way I could think of not slipping up and telling Amethyst the truth.
I’d learned to love Grant more over the years.
He wasn’t an evil man or husband. He was home for the most part, and whenever I asked him, he showed up.
Most of the time, he was attentive, and until recently, he was a good husband.
We hardly fought, and when we did, it was over something small or over how much time I spent with Amethyst. At one point, I even stepped back from spending as much time with Amethyst as I wanted to, but Amethyst nipped that in the bud.
After a while, Grant stopped caring, or at least he pretended not to.
“Well, that came out of left field,” I said, then went back to eating. “You care to share with the class why you said that?”
“Nah,” he denied, shaking his head. “Now, back to the problem of me being there. That nigga is out of town, right?” I nodded, and he ran his tongue over his teeth.
I’d been friends with Amethyst long enough to know his tics, and the more we talked about Grant, the angrier he got. “How long is he going to be gone?”
“I don’t know,” I answered with a shrug.
“Y’all haven’t talked?” he asked, and I shook my head. “Why not?”
“Playing phone tag,” I replied, and he grunted. That was his second show of annoyance, which made me set my fork down and stare at him. “What’s the problem?”
“Nothing,” he said, shaking his head.
I picked up a small piece of bacon and pointed it at him. “I feel like you’re lying to me,” I said, then lifted my brow in question. “Are you lying to me, Amethyst Stone?”
“Nah, man,” he chuckled and shook his head. “I’m just saying, fuck him and that’s all.”
“You-”
“Back to your pussy appointment,” he interrupted me, and I rolled my eyes. “Why can’t I go inside?”
“What do you need to go inside for?” I asked, then took a bite of my bacon.
“Of yo’ pussy?” he sat forward, licked his lips, and smirked at me.
“Sunshine, don’t ask me no shit like that.
” I swallowed my food and stared at him, trying to figure out what the fuck was going on.
I’d flirted with Amethyst our entire friendship, and he’d done the same, but this was the first time I could say I felt the energy shift between us.
My nipples hardened, and my panties were soaking wet.
I cleared my throat and shook my head. “Stop calling it a pussy appointment,” I said, and Amethyst shook his head. “I’m serious, call it something else.”
“Nah,” he went back to eating. “It’s a pussy appointment.”
“There is no way you are a doctor,” I said, shaking my head. Amethyst looked up at me; his fork stopped mid-air, and he smirked. “How did I ever get so lucky to have to deal with a crazy nigga like you?”
“Stop fronting,” he chuckled. “This shit is addictive as fuck.”
“Find something else to be addicted to then,” I replied with a smirk. “I don’t even know why I tell you everything at this point. There is a such thing as boundaries.”
“When it comes to you, Sunshine, I know everything.” He put his fork in his mouth and then slowly pulled it out.
That innocent movement shouldn’t have been sexy, but with Amethyst, damn near everything he did was.
“Stop acting like you don’t know what’s up.
” He pointed his fork at me and gave me a lopsided smile. “You can’t do shit without me knowing.”
“You’re one cocky ass nigga, you know that?” I replied, and he shrugged.
“It’s one of my amazing qualities,” he replied, then pushed back from the table and stood. “Now finish eating so we can go to your pussy appointment.”
“Find a new damn name.”
“I already told you no,” he laughed, and walked to the trash, scraped his plate, then took it to the sink. “Just accept it for what it is.”
I went back to eating because there was no denying what he was saying. Once he had made up his mind about something, there was no changing it. If Amethyst thought he was going into my appointment, then he would do anything and everything in his power to be in the room.
**
“This bullshit,” Amethyst said as we got off the elevator and headed to my appointment. I looked over my shoulder but didn’t stop walking to see his face twisted in annoyance. His brows damn near touched in the center, and he bit into his bottom lip.
“What’s wrong?” I asked him, then slowed my steps to allow a couple to walk in front of us. Amethyst gently grabbed my arm and pulled me to the side so we could stop walking.
He stuffed his phone into his pocket, then licked his lips and looked at me. “I gotta go talk to one of the doctors from last night,” he answered, and I nodded. “I don’t want to leave you alone, though.”
“I’m just going to the doctor, Amethyst,” I laughed and shook my head. “I’ve done this plenty of times in my life alone.”
