Chapter 23 #3

“Yes,” I hissed as he withdrew and slammed back into me. The jolt had his grip leaving my leg and moving to my waist, circling my hips as he watched his heavy cock slide in and out of me.

I was panting, desperate to move my hips to meet his thrusts, but he held them firm as he fucked me with deep strokes.

“River, there’s so much I want to do with you, so many different ways I want to defile you.” He slammed into me, making my tits bounce and our skin slap together in a loud echo. “So many ways I want to mark your perfect skin and hear you gasping in pleasure.”

He leaned over me until his mouth landed on my nipple. His thrusts slowed but continued.

“Do it. Do all of it. I want it all, Wes,” I gasped, lifting to fuck him the way I needed. His harsh grip remained on my hips as he returned to fucking me ruthlessly fast. My orgasm came without warning, and while I was slack jawed, moaning my release, Wes suddenly pulled out of me.

Gripping his length, he pulled me down the length of the table by the back of the thigh.

It happened so fast, I didn’t have time to even register that he was holding me up while half my ass was off the table.

My face, however, was in the perfect position to catch Wesley’s release.

He’d never finished on my face before, not anywhere on my body except inside me, but maybe this was because I’d mentioned I wasn’t on birth control, and he wanted to be careful.

Why did disappointment churn in my chest at the thought of that?

I blinked, opening my mouth to catch the milky release as it jutted from his cock. It was all over my face and sticky, but it didn’t stop Wes from taking a bit by my cheek and spreading it to my lips and tongue.

“So fucking beautiful. I like seeing you like this, covered in the aftermath of what you do to me. You’ve deprived me for seven years, River. You have a lot to make up for. Let’s go get in the shower, because I already need you again.”

Sure enough, his semi hard cock was fully erect again. I smiled, spreading some of his release from my face to my nipple, and he groaned in response. Lifting me from the table, my legs went around his hips, and he smiled at me while he took the stairs two at a time.

The shower was refreshing, and while Wes did pin my chest against the tile as he fucked me from behind, when he finished, he pulled out again, and this time he spread his release into my open mouth.

Frustration prickled under my skin. This was my fault, and it wasn’t like it was fair to not use protection, in hopes that something might happen that he wouldn’t welcome.

This was his life too, and we were in the middle of a messy, dangerous situation that wouldn’t warrant a surprise baby anyway. Why on earth was I so annoyed that Wes didn’t want to finish inside me?

After the shower I tried to brush it off.

“Do we have time to relax a little? I thought we had to do the Triple Y ranch?”

Wes pulled on a pair of boxer briefs and loose jeans, while looking over at me. “Did you see what was inside the casket?”

I shook my head, because obviously it was empty.

Once he buttoned his jeans, he took my hand and led me downstairs, where he began making breakfast.

“There was a note inside.”

How did I miss that?

I hopped, sliding my butt onto the counter. Watching as Wes moved around his kitchen with ease, he grabbed eggs, cracking them one by one then starting on the bacon.

“I haven’t read it yet, but I also didn’t volunteer it during church.”

Taking a blueberry from a container he’d pulled out, I swung my legs and asked, “Why didn’t you just toss it in with the other and let the club figure it out?”

Wesley’s somber gaze collided with mine.

“Because something tells me that note is meant for me, or for you…just like the others were.”

I wanted to say that didn’t stop him from sharing my personal letters with the entire freaking club, but it wouldn’t matter. He was right. My dad was calculated, and if he’d led us far enough to discover he’d faked his own death, then he’d want us to read that note in private.

“So, what are you waiting for?”

Wes focused on the pans of sizzling food, the aroma of bacon filled the room and I remembered I hadn’t even had coffee yet this morning. Jumping down, I moved around him to start the pot when he suddenly caged me in.

“Can I read it first? I just have this weird feeling. He knew I’d be the one to break the seal and pop it open, he knew I’d find it first. I just want a second with it, whatever it is.”

Pressing a kiss to his chest, I smiled up at him. “Of course you can,” I turned away from him and made my way toward the living room. “Will you make me some coffee while I go check on my boy?”

Wes lightly smacked my ass and laughed. “Your boy is a beast, River. But yes, go relax, I’ll bring you some food then we’ll go take a nap.”

I did as he said, finding Max in the living room, resting by the fireplace.

Bending down, I kissed his nose and patted his face while assuring him that he was still my number one boy.

When I stood up again, I realized I was standing directly in front of the mantel, above which was a framed photo of a picture someone had taken of some mountain in Oregon.

It was stunning, but it was what lay behind the picture that had me staring.

I wasn’t sure it would be there, or if Wes had already moved it, but I moved the frame to peek.

The purple key, streaked with stars, rested there on the nail, making my belly swoop with hope. He was telling the truth—he’d kept it.

A fierce sense of need and ownership came over me, so much so that I slipped the key off the nail, quickly glancing toward the kitchen to ensure Wes wasn’t watching.

The key was a gift when I was just fifteen, and a part of me wanted the magic back that it had always provided.

A sense of wonder and hope, that one day I might find my happy ever after.

I knew what Wes had said, but he was right, now that selling wasn’t an option and my dad was alive, it changed everything.

Technically, I could leave…and maybe there were reasons why I should, but I wasn’t entertaining any of them.

I was going to tuck the key back into my purse and hold on to it until Wes held up his end of our deal from all those years ago.

He promised me it would go to a house of our own one day, and I was going to stick around and see that happen.

Warmth invaded my chest as I made a decision.

I was staying in Rose Ridge, and I was going to be here until Wesley Ryan fell in love with me again, and then I was going to make him marry me, regardless of the club, or the things that broke us before. We came back to each other, and I wasn’t going to take it for granted.

Just so I didn’t go back on what I decided, I pulled my cell out and shot a text to Laura.

Me: I’m staying here. There’s a lot going on, and it’s all a bit of a shit show but I’m officially staying. I’ll call when things settle, but I wanted to let you know first

She replied almost immediately.

Laura: I’m the first to know…that means you haven’t told Mr. President then?

I checked to see if Wes was coming.

Me: not yet…I just realized it, and wanted someone to hold me accountable.

Laura: Then it should be him. Tell him how you feel, Callie.

You two deserve to be happy. Seeing you together it sort of sent me into this deep dark spiral of reconsidering all my life choices and whether or not I’m wasting my own life here.

Maybe I should find someone that looks at me the way Wes looks at you.

My mind instantly went to what I saw in Killian’s gaze when the two of them were saying goodbye that day, but I didn’t text that. Instead, I told her the truth.

Me: You should, and maybe you should try and do it here. I might need a roommate if Wes doesn’t want to live together right away.

Laura: I just spit my water because you’re so ridiculous. That man wouldn’t let you walk five feet away from him, much less live across town. I have to run back on shift, but I love you.

Me: Love you too

Right as I dropped the cell, Wes walked in, holding a tray.

“Let’s eat in bed.”

I smiled, following him, positive I’d just made the best decision of my life.

Now I just had to get the courage to tell him.
