Chapter 48
I slow Kingsley’s black jeep to the side of the road and open my phone, staring at the address Sophia texted me. I look through the windshield, not sure what I expect to see. Blinking arrows pointing, “Here is where Stone lives!” Stupid.
Making sure I’m off on the side, parallel to the road, I put it in park. It should be fine. I’m not blocking the road. It’s grossly expensive, and the last thing I need is to total it.
The sun is going to set in a few minutes, and I’m driving on a deserted road looking for the man who ate me out like a dream, took care of me when I was sick, and just drew a sensual portrait of me that robbed my breath.
Yet, I’m here determined to find him. Determined to ask him what it means.
It’s not just art. It’s not just sex. It’s more vibrant, more vivid, bursting with bright colors.
I want him, and I’m not leaving until I find him.
“Fuck.” I peer behind me out the rearview mirror.
Desolate. No one is on this stretch of road.
The sun is setting earlier, turning the sky a deep orange with tinges of pink.
“Not smart, Camryn. You don’t even have a flashlight.
” I look in the glove compartment. “Please tell me you have a flashlight in this monstrosity,” I grumble, searching.
Nothing. A small first-aid kit is tucked in the corner, but other than her registration, there is nothing.
I highly doubt Kingsley was planning on going off-road into the wilderness.
She does have lip gloss and an old bottle of water.
I pick it up and uncap it. Red lipstick coats the mouth.
Sighing, I realize beggars can’t be choosers.
I might be in for a hike. Better hydrate now.
I take a sip. Kingsley and I have shared germs for years.
I giggle at the ridiculousness of my thoughts, realizing I’m stalling.
Taking a deep breath, I zip up my hoodie and pull the hood over my head.
It was still drizzling when I set out. I should have worn boots too instead of my black sneakers, but it’s too late now.
I open the door and climb out, pocketing the keys. I set out, opening my phone. It says the property is 30 feet. Okay. Not bad, just a quick walk. The air feels colder when I walk into the woods, keeping my eyes peeled for his driveway. I should be there in ten minutes, according to my phone.
