Chapter Sixty-Eight
Xane
Prejudice? Is that what this is? I don’t like the way I’m left feeling when Trick walks away.
Kian would have been shouting at me, calling me an asshole, for what I just said.
Trick was confused. He took a minute to understand, and then he called me out.
No raising his voice, no angry words. Just the unvarnished truth.
It’s more effective in making me feel like an asshole than calling me one would have been.
Yeah, I guess I’m prejudiced against Omegas.
If he knew why, I don’t think he’d blame me.
But I don’t think that matters.
He’s not gonna walk away from her.
She’s already got him in her corner.
He’s known her for less than a day, and he’s ready to turn away from our pack, if that’s what it’s gonna take to be with her.
It doesn’t make sense.
I don’t trust her.
She’s a stranger. A stranger who lied about her name and hid her designation from us, until she got time alone with Trick. She perfumed then, and that got him hooked.
So what if she decided to be honest afterward?
She got what she wanted.
She’s not innocent.
I can’t let another Omega try to destroy us, but I can’t hold us together if Trick decides to walk away. He’s been thinking about it for a while now. I didn’t try to fix that while I could. Now, if he wants to leave the pack to be with her, we’ll lose Kian at the same time.
I know we will. All she’d have to do is throw some affection in his direction.
He’s already completely smitten. He has been ever since he saw that photo of her with the guitar. I understand that. I felt something when I looked at it, too, but that doesn’t mean shit if she’s been playing us.
I go inside the jet and put the hammer into my backpack.
There’s only one other person here who gets it, and I failed him once.
I won’t fail him again.
