Chapter Twenty-five #3

Whit enveloped her nipple with her mouth and sucked, nibbling the tip ever so slightly. Abby arched her back and cried out to the rainy Alaskan sky as she spilled over into oblivion, thrusting madly in Whit’s arms.

“Yes, baby,” Whit whispered, providing just enough pressure to finish her off nicely.

Abby went limp and Whit held onto her, dragging kisses across her collar bone. “That was wonderful,” she said.

Abby palmed her forehead, suddenly embarrassed. “Sorry it was so…quick.”

“Mm, it was perfect. Just as I imagined you.”

“You imagined me climaxing within seconds, did you?”

Whit chuckled. “I did, actually.”

“And why is that?”

“Because you’re so fiery and passionate about everything. I just assumed you’d go off like a firecracker in bed.”

“Oh, I see.” she said. “And I just proved you correct, didn’t I?”

“You did.”

Abby kissed her and relished her briny taste.

She wasn’t sure if it was the scrape or the rain making her taste so salty, but she loved it either way and she was longing to taste her in other areas as well for comparison.

She skimmed her fingers across her back and gripped her bra strap to unfasten it, but a noise made her pause.

Whit, too, heard it and looked up at her.

They sat very still, listening to the falling rain, waiting. Abby was just about to tug on the strap again when they heard it a second time.

“What is that?” Abby asked.

Whit tapped her hip, signaling for her to rise. Abby crawled off her, and Whit went to the window, searching for the source of the noise.

“It’s got to be the rain,” Abby said.

“That’s what I was thinking. But it’s not. It’s different. It almost sounds like—”

Another quick tap against the wall sounded and Abby froze.

Whit faced her. “Is that what you meant by knocking when you heard it at the other cabin?”

Abby shook her head. “No. It was more continuous than that.”

“It sounds like—” Whit started. “A rock hitting the wall.”

Another rap came, this time making contact with the window. Abby jerked and Whit jumped back, alarmed.

“Motherfucker,” she said as she hurried over to her shoes.

“Whit, don’t. You’re not even dressed.”

“He’s out there. Probably watching us. Watching us, you know…do stuff.”

“I don’t like the idea of that either, but you can’t go running after him half naked and in the rain. Besides what will you do if you catch him?”

“I don’t know. Beat the shit out of him?”

“As good as that sounds, it’s not very realistic. You’ll never catch him. Think about it. He wants us to react. That’s why he’s doing it. But I guarantee you he’s already five steps ahead of us.”

Whit paused, shoe in hand. Abby could almost hear the cogs of her mind turning.

She dropped her boot and placed her hands on her hips. “You’re right. Chasing him is exactly what he wants.” She sighed.

“I’m not the only one who’s fiery, am I?”

Whit ran a hand through her hair. “Guess not.”

“You were ready to tear off after him and kill him.”

“Can you blame me?”

“Absolutely not. But I don’t want to see you get hurt. That would devastate me.”

Whit held her hands and they eased onto the couch. “Creeps me out that he probably saw us,” she said.

“Me, too.”

“He’s beyond a stalker at this point. He’s…deviant.”

Another object hit the window, and a crack veined out in the glass. Whit stiffened but kept control of herself.

“We have to ignore it,” she said.

Abby touched her face. “We do. After all, we’re in here where it’s warm and dry, and he’s out there in the storm, probably soaked to the gills like an idiot. Let him get hypothermia this time.”

“I wish he would. I wish he would wander off somewhere never to be found again. Let Alaska have her way with him.”

“Maybe she will. In due time.” Abby rested her head on her shoulder and Whit wrapped an arm around her and relaxed back into the couch. More things were thrown, some banging into the window, some against the walls, but all were ignored.

“This is almost nice,” Abby said. “If it weren’t for Boyd and his annoying little tantrums.”

“It is.”

The rain stopped and they both glanced out the window at the silence. They saw a figure standing out by the trees, wearing a dark green hooded slicker. Whit stood, ready to give chase, but Abby grabbed her.

“No,” she said. “Remember it’s what he wants.”

“But he’s right there.”

“He’s taunting you, Whit. Daring you to go out after him.”

“I wish I had a gun. I’d open the door and shoot him.”

“Just sit back down and relax. Try not to think about him.”

“What if he comes up to the door? You want me to ignore him then?”

“He won’t. He knows what you did to that bear.”

“But he’s getting more and more brazen, Abby. And I don’t want him to hurt you.”

“He won’t. We won’t let him. If he comes to the door, we’ll fight. But otherwise, we ignore him.”

Whit released a long breath. “It’s going to be a long night.”

Abby pulled her close. “At least in the dark, he won’t be able to see us.”

Whit returned the embrace. “Does that mean more kisses?”

“Mm, it does.”

“Well, I’m all for that, then.”

“Boyd be damned?”

“Boyd be damned.”
