Chapter 12 Desperate Kiss
Those six hours were the worst I'd endured.
My heart raced in panic.
Since joining Wen Yu, I'd never felt fear.
No beatings, no scoldings, always fed. Trouble? Someone backed me.
Doctors said Wen Yu took the wrong meds, causing heart failure.
He'd taken them for years. Why now?
Unless someone tampered.
Wen Yu rolled out paler.
My hand on his chest felt the heartbeat. Good.
I grabbed the doctor's collar.
"Can we swap?"
"Give my heart back to Wen Yu."
So he could run, jump, not get bullied, not be so fragile.
Doctor shook his head.
VIP room, just me guarding Wen Yu.
I felt sorry for him. Without me, he had nothing.
I climbed on the bed, tracing his brows and eyes.
Sudden sadness hit.
It was his eighteenth birthday.
Day he became an adult.
But he nearly died.
I was useless. I watched him take the meds, but missed the poison.
Wen Yu hated meds. I coaxed him every time.
Today, I coaxed poison into him.
Nearly killed him.
I hugged him tight, still scared and sad.
Scarier than near-death beatings. Worse than Mom leaving.
"Why are you crying?"
His cool hand patted my back, no strength.
Was I crying? Didn't know.
My heart felt broken, a hole tearing it apart.
"Don't be scared. I'm still alive."
I sobbed loud, gripping him.
"I'm so scared. So scared you wouldn't wake."
Grandpa left that way.
He wasn't old, but heart disease was a curse.
Into the OR, out without a beat.
Hearts should be shared.
Wen Yu's mom gone, Grandpa gone.
Wen Yu had me. I wouldn't leave.
But I only had Wen Yu. I feared he'd leave.
"I'm not scared of nothing. But I can't lose Wen Yu."
I nestled into his hold.
"You're all I have."
Tears smeared on him.
I shook all over. Seeing him fall terrified me.
"Xun Ye, look at me."
I lifted my head from his chest, saw his pale face.
His forehead pressed to mine. I saw the fuzz on his skin.
His dry, chapped lips met mine, a bit rough.
"Feel it."
"I'm here. I'm alive. I won't leave you."
My eyes widened in shock. Lashes fluttered helplessly.
He kissed again. His long lashes brushed my nose.
His voice was weak.
"You're mine. What would you do without me?"
My heart pounded wildly, his face inches away.
His eyes held my reflection.
Panic gone. My heart pounded fast.
