It was the most beautiful, intoxicating sound I had ever heard. She wasn’t just smiling or chuckling—she was laughing. It sounded like pure joy. I wanted to make her laugh for the rest of my life.
I knew I was smiling like an idiot because by the time she calmed down and sighed, my cheeks were sore. “Please tell me what I said that was so funny.”
“Normal?” She snorted. “What about me, about you, or about how we became a thing is normal? A night spent at your place eating pizza, drinking beer, and making out is textbook normal, and you think it’s not normal enough to be a date?
I would have accepted our time at the hotel as a date, and we weren’t even together yet. ”
“I meant a real date where I take you to a restaurant or somewhere special.”
Her eyes lit up. “I’m usually antsy in busy restaurants, but I’m guessing you’re rich enough to find an upscale place with a private room.”
“I can book the entire restaurant if there’s a place you like that doesn’t have a private room.”
“Fancy. Well, then I’d love to go on a first date with you, Daniel Mason. I’ll leave it to you to plan it.”
“Good. I’m not sure I’m ready to go on a date you plan.”
She smiled and kissed my neck, right under my ear. “Scared?”
“Fuck, yeah. I’m not stupid.
