Chapter 44 #3
Through it all, I sat in the middle of them, surrounded by warmth and love and the impossible reality that this was my life now.
Later that night, when the excitement had settled into something softer, we retreated to the nest. We'd officially given up the pretense and taken over a corner of the living room, expanding the nest until it was big enough for all six of us to sprawl comfortably.
Blankets and pillows were piled high, creating a cocoon of softness that smelled like all of us combined.
Fairy lights were strung overhead, casting everything in a warm golden glow, and the air was thick with mingled scents that meant safety and love and home.
I was in the center, as always. The place they'd carved out for me, the space that had been waiting for me even before I knew I needed it.
Jae-won was at my back, his chest pressed to my spine, his arm draped over my waist with possessive familiarity.
His breath was warm and steady against my hair, and I could feel his heartbeat thumping against my shoulder blade.
Hwan was curled against my front, his platinum blonde hair tickling my chin, his head pillowed on my chest. He'd finally given Tae-min's shirt back — after much dramatic protesting — and was now wearing a soft hoodie that made him look younger, softer.
His warm brown eyes were closed, his lashes fanned against his cheeks, but his golden thread pulsed with contentment that told me he wasn't quite asleep.
Jin-ho was pressed along my side, his long body curved to fit against mine, his fingers tangled with mine between us. His grip was loose but constant, like he needed the physical proof that I was there. His violet thread hummed with quiet contentment, a low steady thrum that felt like music.
Tae-min had claimed my legs, as he always did, his cheek pressed against my thigh, one hand wrapped around my ankle in that familiar grip.
Even in the dim light, I could see the small smile curving his lips, could feel his crimson thread glowing with that fierce, eager love that was so uniquely him.
Min-jun was positioned above us all, his back against the headboard, my head half in his lap as his fingers carded gently through my hair. The motion was soothing, rhythmic, and his rose-pink thread radiated tender protectiveness that made me feel utterly, completely safe.
Six people. One nest. More love than I knew what to do with.
"I still can't believe this is real." I murmured into the quiet, my voice soft and drowsy, heavy with the kind of peace I'd never experienced before them. Through the bonds, I felt five flickers of amusement, five pulses of love so strong they made my breath catch.
"We can keep reminding you." Hwan offered against my chest, his voice muffled by my shirt, his lips brushing against my collarbone as he spoke. He pressed a kiss there — right over where his golden amber flower bloomed on my skin — and I felt his thread pulse brighter. "As many times as you need."
"Forever, if necessary." Jin-ho added, his thumb stroking over my knuckles in a slow, soothing rhythm. His amber eyes opened to meet mine, soft and warm in the fairy light.
"Forever sounds good." Tae-min mumbled against my thigh, already half-asleep, his words slurring together. His crimson thread was soft and warm, pulsing with sleepy contentment.
"Forever it is, then." Jae-won's voice was a low rumble against my back, vibrating through my spine, his arm tightening around my waist and pulling me closer.
His indigo thread pulsed with fierce, possessive love — the kind that promised protection and devotion and a lifetime of belonging. "You're stuck with us now."
"Stuck with you." I repeated, a smile curving my lips despite my exhaustion. "I think I can live with that."
Min-jun's fingers continued their gentle path through my hair, soothing and rhythmic, working out tangles I didn't know I had.
"Try to sleep." He said softly, his voice barely above a whisper, his rose-pink thread radiating tender care that wrapped around me like a blanket. "You're still recovering."
"I'm fine." I protested weakly, but my eyes were already drifting closed, my body surrendering to the warmth and safety surrounding me.
"You're perfect." Hwan corrected, his voice muffled against my chest, his breath warm through my shirt. "But sleep anyway."
I let myself sink into the warmth of the nest, feeling five heartbeats around me, five bonds humming in my chest like a symphony only we could hear.
This was what I'd been running from my whole life — this connection, this belonging, this vulnerability.
And now that I had it, I couldn't imagine existing without it.
My mother had been wrong. Soulmates weren't a trap. Bonds weren't a cage. This was freedom. This was home. This was everything I'd never dared to want.
I'd spent years building walls, running from connections, protecting myself from the kind of love that could destroy me. I'd watched my mother reject her bond, had listened to her warnings about the dangers of letting someone in, had internalized the fear until it was part of my very bones.
I hadn't known — couldn't have known — that the right love wouldn't destroy me at all.
It would build me up instead.
Pack, my omega whispered as sleep pulled me under, the voice soft and satisfied. Home. Ours. Forever.
Forever.
But we couldn't stay hidden forever. The world was waiting to find out about SIREN's omega. And not everyone would be happy about what they discovered.
That was a problem for another day.
Tonight, I was home. Tonight, I was loved. Tonight, I was exactly where I was meant to be — surrounded by five alphas who had chosen me as surely as I had chosen them.
Whatever tomorrow brought, we would face it together.
As a pack.
