Chapter Seventeen
Gatlin
Shaw’s parents came along to help us move into our new home with a big yard for our son to play in.
With my huge raise, the moving expenses paid, and the bonus that Talon forgot to mention, we were able to get all new furniture for the house.
Which was great since most of our things were on the well-loved side of worn out.
Shaw’s omega dad had nearly rubbed one of our dining room chairs clear of its stain. “Is something going on?” I asked. They had accepted me with open arms, and they supported us moving even though there was a bit of sadness about it. They wanted their son and grandson happy above all else.
“I…can we have Sebastian this weekend? I’m missing him already.”
They were like second parents to Sebastian. Our son was so lucky to have a village raising him. “Of course you can,” Shaw said, holding my hand. “Is that okay?”
I nodded. “Actually, it would be great. I start on Monday, and I’d like this house in order as much before we get into a hectic schedule.”
Sebastian was starting preschool and was very excited to make friends and learn stuff. Our little guy was a chatty fellow. Even in the grocery store, he made friends.
Shaw had also come clean to his parents about how we met and where I worked. Their answer? All work was honorable work. Shaw had worried for weeks about nothing.
We all made a promise that night. No more secrets.
“That settles it, then.” Shaw’s omega dad had more pep in his step.
We spent the rest of the day unpacking all the things we needed. Beds were already put together by the furniture company, so all we had to do was make them and get Sebastian’s things set up, along with some basic kitchen items.
Shaw’s parents left in the afternoon, turning down dinner with us. They liked to get to bed early and who could blame them.
“How about we order in and watch a movie together? Cub’s choice.”
“Beast!” he yelled and began skulking around the house, growling. The boy loved Beauty and the Beast and kind of hated it when the beast turned into a man. Would’ve been cooler if he stayed a shifter, in our opinion.
Shaw came over and wrapped his arms around my waist. With my new raise and share in the club, we’d decided he would take his time and find a job he loved instead of taking whatever he had to in order to provide for Sebastian. He wasn’t alone in that anymore. “What are we ordering for dinner?”
“I thought Chinese. Sebastian loves spring rolls and the beef and peppers.” We had no picky eater on our hands. Our boy ate everything. Vegetables. Fruit. The only thing he didn’t like were tangerines. Oranges, yes. Mandarins, yes. Tangerines? Hard no.
“He does. I was thinking after movie night and getting our cub down to sleep, we could have a night to ourselves, if you’re not too tired.”
A growl was his answer.
“That’s what I thought. Can’t wait…Daddy.”
“Behave yourself.”
“Or what?” my omega asked, giggling.
“Or I’ll remind you of these moments while we’re at the new club. I’ve already got plans for us there.”
“Promises, promises.” He went to check on Sebastian who was still growling in the distance and who spoke of the wolf in his tummy often. His first shift couldn’t be far off. It was funny because when I was little, I referred to my wolf as the wolf in my belly as well.
Sometimes I looked at him and regretted the time I missed, but there were pictures and I tried my best to focus on the time we had instead.
The next few weeks, supervising the club and making decisions, would have me away for big spans of time, but it would be worth the investment.
Working for the new club was more important to me as ever now that I was a partial owner.
Still blew my mind that they offered me such an amazing opportunity.
