Chapter 4 Across the Hall

Why was Chen Yinian living in a place like this?

He owned so many villas. Why here?

I sank to the floor, forehead pressed against my suitcase, fingers trembling as I dialed Lin Fei.

“Hey, Baby, you actually called me first for once.”

“I ran into Chen Yinian in the neighborhood,” I said straight out.

Why would Chen Yinian live in an ordinary apartment?

His family wasn’t just rich—they were a different world. If we hadn’t gone to the same university, I never would have crossed paths with someone like him.

A notification pinged on Lin Fei’s end. She went quiet for a few seconds.

“Chen Yinian’s been having a rough time lately.”

The knot around my heart yanked tighter.

I asked carefully, “Why?”

His parents had always been good to him. They never denied him anything.

“I don’t know the details. Heard his cards got frozen and he’s got nowhere to stay.

“Back then, when you left with that Fiance from the countryside in front of everyone, he almost got on his knees begging you not to go.”

My breath caught. Lin Fei kept going.

“You remember, right?

“He’s worse off now than he was then. His parents think he’s hopeless and are about to kick him out.

“Su Mian, you were together four years. Take pity on your poor ex, yeah?”

My heart twisted sharply.

I picked at my fingers, defeated.

“He’ll never forgive me,” I whispered, barely audible.

Lin Fei gave a soft laugh.

“Before he saw you again, maybe he really planned to hate you forever.

“But after seeing you… everything’s different.”
