Jordy

AT OLDPORT UNIVERSITY, I stood at the open trunk of the car my dad had bought for me just two weeks earlier.

The backseat had already been unloaded and hauled into my dorm by Kieran and my dad.

Neither of them would let me carry boxes or anything even remotely adjacent to heavy so at the moment all I could do was wait around for them to come back for more.

Sighing as I leaned into the side of my car, I glanced around what I could see of campus.

There were tons of students milling around already, some of them looking totally lost and confused.

They probably hadn’t come to the early orientation and taken a campus tour like I had.

I’d come with my dad, and it had been really nice to have a day with just the two of us.

Kieran had clued me in to how worried he was about losing his relationship with me after they’d had their big talk, so I’d been making sure to spend plenty of time with him and make sure he knew that wasn’t happening.

There was a group of guys playing a disorganized, loosely defined game of soccer in a small open space in the quad near where we’d parked.

One of them, a tall and broad-shouldered alpha who was wearing a t-shirt with the greek letters of a fraternity printed on it kept glancing over in my direction, like he wanted to make sure I was watching him before he did some trick with the ball.

Smirking a bit at how obvious he was being, I tilted my head and pretended to inspect my fingernails.

He might have liked how I looked from afar, but I knew if he came up closer he’d back off right away.

The pheromones from a marked omega were a giant warning signal to all other alphas, and from what Kieran had described to me, they weren’t pleasant to breathe in.

It was bearable to be around, like if you worked or attended class with a marked omega, but it killed off any speck of desire an alpha might have for that person.

I loved it. I’d had to deal with pushy alphas more than once in my life, and having a wall of invisible stop signs planted around me made things so much easier.

Still, I liked the reminder that I was cute, so I shifted a bit and arched my back a little so my butt was up against the car door as I scrolled on my phone.

“Teasin’ the jocks, huh?” Kieran said flatly, raising an eyebrow at me. I hadn’t heard him walk up.

Blinking my lashes at him, I shrugged innocently, and he rolled his eyes as he closed the gap between us.

Cupping under my chin, he leaned in and gave me a deep, slow kiss.

Purring, I slid my hands up his chest as he sucked at my bottom lip, nipping it and then gliding the tip of his tongue over the bite.

When I parted my lips to let his tongue into my mouth, I felt his other hand snake around my waist to tug me closer to him, his leg wedging between my thighs in a ridiculously possessive way.

“Now who’s teasing the jocks?” I wondered, when he finally let me pull back to breathe. He snorted before giving me another quick smacking kiss.

“I’m not teasing them. I’m informing them,” he answered matter-of-factly.

“Informing them of what?” I asked, and he smirked, leaning back into me.

“That you’re spoken for.”

“I’m pretty sure that part’s already taken care of,” I said, trailing my finger over my throat to tug down the collar of my sweater and reveal my bite scar.

His eyes instantly snapped down to it, nostrils flaring as his lips pulled back to show his teeth in a tiny little growl.

He always had such a sexy reaction to seeing his mark on me, and I loved taunting him with it.

“Yeah, but doing it this way is so much more fun,” he insisted, dipping his head down to my neck so he could press a hot, open-mouthed kiss to the mark.

Gazing up and over his shoulder at the group of guys across the quad, I noted they had all stopped their game and were staring at us.

Unable to stop a smug little grin from carving itself across my face, I dragged my hand up his back and tangled my fingers in his hair.

“They’re still staring at us,” I murmured to him, chuckling when he glanced back at them.

“Is college going to make your ego even worse?” He wondered, sounding resigned but amused.

“Maybe,” I admitted, but I was joking. Mostly.

When my dad strolled up to the car to find us in our hot embrace, he cleared his throat, and Kieran quickly untangled himself from me and tried to look innocent.

It was still a little awkward trying to kiss him and stuff around our parents, but everyone was slowly getting used to it.

I was sure it was probably worse for them than it was for us.

The upstairs part of the house had more or less become a forbidden zone for them while Kieran and I were both home.

Not because they weren’t allowed, but I think they were just afraid of what they might find if they stumbled up on us without warning.

Which was probably a smart arrangement all around, since Kieran and I had become pretty much inseparable since the day he’d marked me.

And we were physically demonstrating our feelings for each other in a healthy and frequent way.

My dad had never said it out loud to me, but I’d quickly figured out that for him it was basically as long as I don’t see it or hear it then I can pretend nothing’s happening type of vibe, and that was fine with me.

The only time either one of them ever came up anymore was while Kieran was at work, or both of us were out on a date or something.

At least it meant we had plenty of privacy, even if sometimes when we came down after a while to eat it was completely and totally obvious what we’d been doing and everyone just kind of ignored it and tried to talk about the weather or current events or whatever.

But it’s not like anyone had been under the impression that our situation wasn’t going to be weird, so honestly it was the best I could have hoped for.

At least for the time being, everything in my life was sunshine and roses.

Kieran and I were deliriously happy, our parents had ended up being okay with our new relationship status, and our friends were slowly coming around, too.

Except Dani. She hadn’t needed any time to process, of course.

I’d gotten all my precourse work done for all my classes, and I’d already made plans for Dani and I to meet up with Xavier and his girlfriend at a local coffee shop to hang out.

“Well, that’s all of it,” Dad commented, lugging up a medium-sized box out of the trunk, once Kieran had rushed over to take the bigger one. “Last trip.”

I scampered behind them up to the dorm room, where Dani was already waiting. Her parents had dropped her off a couple of hours earlier. She squealed when she saw me, jumping up off her bed to wrap me in a tight hug.

“Oh my god!” She pulled back to show me her excited expression.

“I’ve been waiting forever,” she complained, but in a fond way.

“I can’t believe we’re actually here.” It had been our dream to room together at OU since we’d been freshmen in high school, and we’d fantasized about it together too many times to count. “We are totally going to fuck shit up!”

My dad made a spluttering kind of harumph noise, and she glanced up at him, a tad guilty.

“Sorry, Mr. N! I mean, we’re going to do really well in our classes and be successful.”

He chuckled, shaking his head. “That’s what I like to hear, Dani.”

She released me from her tight grip and backed off to let me say my goodbyes.

My dad put his hands on my shoulders, and stared into my eyes as he drew in a deep breath.

“It’s going to be… strange not having you around,” he finally voiced, and I could tell by the downward angle of his eyebrows the thought made him really sad.

“It’s only a couple days,” I reminded him gently. “I’m coming back home this weekend.”

Dani and I wouldn’t be driving back home every weekend, we’d probably stay at school if we had heavy homework loads and around midterms and stuff, but I knew I’d be coming back a lot of the time.

“I know,” he said, smiling at me. “We’ll all go out to dinner so you can tell us about your first week, okay?”

“Okay,” I agreed.

“And make sure you text your mom some, too. She cried last night because she couldn’t come up with us today.”

Mom couldn’t get out of work to come along, but she’d given me a big lovey-dovey emotional speech the night before about how much she loved me and how happy she was to have me as a son.

“I will,” I promised. “I love you, Dad.”

He sighed, pulling me into a hug so tight it nearly stole my breath. “I love you, too. Don’t get so busy you forget to take your medicine. And no drinking. You got your insulin in the fridge, right?”

He’d bought a mini-fridge for our dorm room, which Kieran had already hauled up and plugged in. In a few hours, once it cooled down in there, I’d keep my insulin pens inside.

“I’ll put them in there,” I swore, my words muffled against his shoulder.

“And I won’t drink or do drugs or have orgies or anything.

” The last part was a given considering I’d have the sexiest alpha with the most amazing cock in the world waiting for me at home so there was no reason I’d ever be tempted to even look at another guy, but I couldn’t help tacking it on.

“Jordy,” he warned me sharply, and I snorted.

“I’ll be good.”

“I know you will,” he said, the brief flash of stern instantly gone from his voice. He shifted back onto his heels, staring into my face again. “I am so, so proud of you. We all are.”

“Thanks. You made it easy to do everything right,” I said honestly. His eyes darted over to where Kieran was hanging back, pretending to check out the decorative stuff Dani had already put up on her side of the room.

“Well, I’ll give you guys a minute,” he decided. “I’ll be in the car, Kieran.”
