Epilogue
Two years later, Room with a Tomb
Pearl wore her pin proudly as she walked hand in hand with Phineas into the big white tent in the garden of Room with a Tomb. The ghosts were filtering in and out and Mario, thankfully, was wearing his wet clothes.
Everyone was gathered to celebrate Pearl’s convocation, her pinning ceremony as a new nurse, and her new job. The moment she walked in with Phineas at her side, everyone erupted in cheers.
“To the newest nurse in Harmony Glen and the highest marks in her graduating class!” Finn shouted proudly, holding up a glass of champagne, his arm was wrapped around his wife Margaid, who held their little daughter.
Her niece, Henrietta, who was also a glashtyn unicorn. The only difference was she had red downy curls. Henrietta was still too young to understand what was going on, but she was smiling and cooing all the same.
Pearl blushed at the attention.
All her family and friends were there, all toasting her. Sven and Flo were proudly toasting her, and Mercedes was holding her little boy, Leif, who looked nothing like Magnus, his Viking ghoul father, and every bit like his burgundy-haired witch mother.
It seemed like everyone was moving on with families, and she was too. She had Phineas still and he was doing well. Coat, Pierre’s bistro, had taken off, and Phineas was helping him run it.
Though Phineas still had the swamp, he’d bought a little house in town on Pleasant Street, with a white picket fence.
“Thank you,” Pearl gushed, feeling embarrassed at all the attention. “I’m glad school is over, for now, and I’m back here with you all.”
Her mom was wiping tears with a lace handkerchief and Pierre was standing next to her mother. Pierre had been welcomed with open arms into their little family.
It was all so perfect.
Pearl turned to look at Phineas and realized that he had dropped down on one knee. Her heart skipped a beat.
“Pearl,” he said, opening a box with a beautiful ring. “This was my mother’s, and I would like you to have it. Will you marry me?”
Pearl felt tears sting her eyes and she nodded. “Yes. Yes, I will.”
Phineas slipped the ring on her finger and then stood up, kissing her. “I love you, Pearl, and I’m proud of you. It’s now time to make a life together. The life we want with our family here.”
Pearl nodded. “Agreed, and I love you too, Phineas.”
“Kiss her,” Magnus shouted. “And then we can get this garden party started.”
Pearl laughed and touched her fiancé’s face, reveling in the fact that he was hers. Only two summers ago she was taking a chance at doing something completely out of her comfort zone, and that was taking charge of her life.
Now she was here.
With everything she wanted in a place where happily ever afters really do come true and Harmony Glen was where her fairy tale was just beginning.
