Chapter Eight

Mel

When Cammie had hugged me, I'd frozen. Mattie was waggling his eyebrows at me making me want to smack him, and Cammie had been inexplicably hugging me.

I was sure I had been standing far stiffer than a normal person would be, but I could feel her body heat as she pressed into me and was shocked that my instinct was to pull her closer.

If she were any other girl, I might have, but she wasn't. This was Cammie we were talking about, Mattie's little sister, and I was being a creep.

Although little sister was a little dramatic, since neither of us were little anymore.

She was twenty-eight, and I was thirty-two.

It was a normal age difference, but that didn't change the fact that she was Mattie's younger sister.

I couldn't break best friend code like that by hitting on Mattie’s sister, no matter how beautiful she was looking tonight.

Mattie joked about Cammie and me sometimes, but that's all it was, a joke.

The last thing I wanted to do was risk hurting my best friend's sister.

Besides, she had a male ex-fiancé. I clearly wasn't her type.

I would just have to keep my distance as much as possible and keep my eyes and wandering thoughts to myself.
