Chapter 23
CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE
DEIDRE
“W hat the hell are you doing home?” Mandy asks when I get in around midnight.
“ Hi to you, too.”
She returns something to the fridge. “Why aren’t you fucking his brains out?”
“I did.” My body lights up at the memory.
“So, why aren’t you there waiting for him to recover so you can fuck him in the morning?”
I walk past the kitchen and head for my room. “You know that’s not how I do it.”
Mandy follows me. “Well, everything changed as soon as you slept with him.”
“No, it didn’t.”
“Yes, it did,” she counters. “It all changed because he’s a guy that you know . You fucked him in your bed and let him spend the night."
“I wasn’t going to be mean and kick him out at four in the morning.”
“Which is why everything changed,” she claims with a grin. “You like him.”
“Yeah, I like him.”
“Ha!” she shouts, pointing a finger at me.
“Because he’s my friend.”
“A guy friend whom you’ve fucked. A guy friend who you’ve fucked several times now.”
I huff and roll my eyes as I hang my purse.
Mandy’s calling me out, and I hate it. I’m not ready to deal with anything about Luke in any fashion. Acknowledging that things are different with him takes this to a level I’m not and can’t deal with right now.
“You don’t have guy friends who you fuck. There are the guys you fuck and then there are the guys who are kind of your friends who you don’t fuck and not all of them are gay,” Mandy states.
“Whatever.”
She scoops Vix into her arms. “Why don’t you humor the idea of maybe dating him?”
“Because that wouldn’t work."
“For whom? You?” she asks.
“Yes.”
“You can’t keep using that as a reason why not to date, Dei.”
“Yes, I can.”
“No, you can’t,” she argues.
“Stop pushing.”
“Fine,” she huffs. “But don’t be surprised when someone gets hurt in the process.”
“He won’t get hurt. He’s a guy, and guys just want sex,” I state.
“I wasn’t talking about him.”
“You think I’ll get hurt?” I balk.
“Don’t say I didn’t warn you.” Mandy walks out of my room.
