Chapter 26 Briar
Briar
I step out of the bedroom, nicking the door shut gently behind me so as not to rouse the sleeping Daisy inside.
She fell asleep yet again. It looks like her first wave is over, and her Omega can finally relax.
She’s going to be pretty hungry when she wakes again, so I move to the kitchen to grab her something to eat. There’s not much in her fridge as I let out a sigh. All she has in the cupboards are some cheese crackers.
So, takeout it is, then. Pineapple pizza. Her favorite.
There are complimentary sodas, though, so I yank them up from the fridge. I will nip out before dawn to pick up some groceries for her, too. It’s the least I can do as her Alpha.
Her Alpha… it still seems so surreal to me, but I am Daisy’s Alpha now. And as her Alpha, I must take care of her and ensure she is well-fed.
My Omega won’t go hungry.
Yes, my Omega… Daisy is my Omega now.
Just as I grab the six-pack of cola, shutting the fridge door behind me, I come face-to-face with that slumped figure in the living room.
He’s drinking vodka from Daisy’s stores. He could at least switch the TV on and watch some good old-fashioned ‘90s teen movies, but no—he prefers to sit and brood alone in the dark.
“Rowan?”
He stirs, meeting my eyes, and the expression on his face…he looks like real shit. I don’t even know why he joined us in the end if he is just going to sulk in the living room.
Pretty selfish of him. Daisy doesn’t show it, but she is wholly aware of his presence in the other room. Her Omega yearns for him. I can taste it on her sweet scent whenever I make her come.
Meanwhile, I forgot all about him. Ash did, too.
Daisy has become our sole focus.
I sigh. “What are you doing?”
The Alpha just deadpans me, his gaze frozen as he props his elbow up onto the arm of the chair, leaning his head in his hand. I huff, rolling my eyes as I leave him to his woes.
He’s pathetic. If he is not going to participate, then he can take his miserable ass home.
“Briar…” he whispers, his voice hoarse.
I halt my steps, turning my head to look at him. “What?”
The Alpha gazes down into his vodka bottle now. A whole goddamn bottle. He heaves a breath, shaking his head. “N-nothing. You… go on.”
I narrow my eyes. That just won’t do.
I storm closer. “Rowan... if you are going to join us, then make a choice. Now. Daisy will wake in a few hours. Her second wave will be stronger than the last. So, if you’re in… then stay. But if you’re just going to sulk out here, then do us all a favor and just leave.”
He scowls at me for a few moments longer, his expression unreadable. I growl in frustration, shaking my head, then return to the goddess in the bedroom.
I have a hungry Omega waiting for me.
Screw this asshole.
This is the happiest my Alpha has ever been. He’s on a high. We both are… And no one is going to keep us apart ever again.
When I return to the bedroom, Daisy is awake. Her eyes widen when she spies the soda and the packet of cheese crackers, reaching her hands out. “Gimme!”
I laugh, sitting down beside her. She opens the packet of crackers, practically inhaling them in one go. And then she swigs back several cans of cola.
When she’s done, I wipe the crumbs from her mouth. She asks, “Who were you talking to?”
I pause. Should I tell her? No doubt she already knows. In the end, I heave a sigh, then whisper, “Rowan.”
The Omega tries to hide it, but she’s heartbroken. But she puts on a strong front and smiles, changing the subject. “You know… I could do with something sweet.”
I chuckle, getting into bed with her as I just need to hold her close before I nip out for more snacks. Ash snores yet again, and gods, my brother can sure sleep.
“I will head out to the store and get you some cake. I may even order us pineapple pizza.”
“Ooh, I would like that!”
I laugh yet again, sniffing her hair as I breathe in her May-blossom. “Of course you would.”
She soon falls asleep to the sound of my purring.
Yep, there is nowhere I would rather be.
Right here is perfect.
