Chapter 2 #2

Gentle thrusts became hard and languid became fast until the world around me vanished and the only thing I could hear was the hoarse sound of my voice and our bodies slapping against each other.

In no time, stars began dotting my vision, the gentle pressure building at the pit of my stomach grew into a giant bomb at the brink of explosion.

Kazimir’s thrusts continued building until I couldn’t feel where my body ended and his begun.

Everything narrowed to the point where his body fused with mine and the sparks exploding from the point.

“I’m gonna… I’m com—” A deep thrust stole the rest of my words and my body beat me to the finish. “Kazimir!”

My orgasm hit like a speedtrain. I felt my body soar off the edge and disintegrate into tiny pieces of sparks.

Kazimir didn’t stop. His strokes were harder, faster, deeper. I felt him in every tiny fragment of my body as I struggled to remain conscious, but intensity won over sheer will and the last thing I remembered was a bright flash of light and teeth sinking into my flesh.

“Thank goodness,” Anna exclaimed the moment I walked through the door. “I was about to send out a search party.”

“And why would you do that?” I kicked off my shoes, pretending to not know what my fussy best friend was talking about.

“You spent the night out and you didn’t drop a text or pick up your calls.” I wasn’t looking at her but I knew her arms were crossed around her chest, hips pushed out to the side and her eyes were narrowed.

I made a beeline for the sofa at the edge of our little living room, intentionally avoiding Anna’s comment and regretted my haste when my ass hitting the chair summoned the deepest ache from my core.

I tried to mask my sharp intake of air with a cough but Anna saw right through it.

“Genevieve Sinclair, where did you spend your night and why are you sitting on one butt cheek?”

I mentally winced at the sound of her voice before giving an answer. “The office.”

Technically, I wasn't lying. I did spend my night at the office and the only reason I didn’t drop a text was I left my bag at the reception and I couldn’t go back for obvious reasons.

“In what world is a receptionist required to work overnight?”

“The one I worked in.”

I wasn’t secretive by any means and shared almost everything with her. She was the first and only person I’d told about my diagnosis and intended to share last night with her, but I was hoping I had some moment to gather my thoughts.

“Gen…” She took a step closer and I already knew what she was looking at before she spoke. “Is that a hickey on your neck?”

I cursed beneath my breath. In my hurry to leave Kazimir’s bed and the office before he woke up, I’d forgotten to properly button my shirt.

“Ihadsexwithmyboss,” I breathed out at once, finally bringing my eyes to Anna.

The expression on her face told me she heard exactly what I said, still, a brow raised in question. “What?”

“I had sex with my boss,” I repeated it slowly.

A beat passed before she morphed into a Cheshire cat. “Your boss, Kazimir Ivanovich, aka the man behind all your—”

“Yes. Anna. That one.”

She was at my side in a flash. “Tell me all about it. I hope my stupid calls didn’t bother you?”

I chuckled at her switch. “Now the call’s stupid, huh?”

“Anything that would keep Kazimir’s cock away from your pussy qualifies as stupid.”

“Anna!”

“What? It’s the moment we’ve been waiting for, now out with it.”

I gave her the details of my night, recounting everything without missing a beat and with every detail I divulged, my haste to leave the penthouse didn’t seem like such a wise idea.

“Woah.” Anna finally came around, picking her jaw from the floor. “I mean, the man looks like sex on legs, I just didn’t think he would be that attentive.”

Heat spread through my cheeks when I remembered a particular detail of the night. “He was also really gentle with the aftercare.”

“OMG, did you cuddle?”

“Nah.” I watched her excitement deflate. “But he did clean me up with a warm towel and offered me a shirt to sleep in.”

“Damn. I’m happy for you, girl.”

“I am happy for me too.”

“Well.” She got back on her feet. “I guess I’ll let you get ready for work. Remember, fucking the boss doesn’t mean you get to slack.”

My eyes followed her to the kitchen where she picked two mugs from the shelf.

I watched as she carefully made two cups of coffee, a routine we’ve had since college, and realized how little, everyday tasks could become huge when the thought of losing it loomed ahead.

This might as well be the last time I took part in the tradition.

“…..I’m thinking elevator sex since he has a private one but I can totally see him bending you over… Gen? You there?”

I looked at her, only noticing my wet lashes when I blinked.

“Are you good? Is this about losing your virginity because—”

“I’m leaving.”

Anna’s fingers paused above the kettle.

“I was going to wait till I had collected my last payment and helped pay off the rent to give you time to find a new place before telling you, but now, I feel this is the time.”

She walked over to me, two mugs of steaming coffee in both hands. “Is this because of last night?”

I took the cup from her outstretched hand, my lips curving into a smile.

“No. I already made a list and decided it was best. I spend my last days relaxed and at home and not slaving away to corporate life. I’m only saying it now because last night made me realize I didn’t have to wait for special occasions.

And the office I am trying to help till they find a replacement would replace me in a flash if I died.

What use is the money if I won’t be here to spend it? ”

Anna took a sip of her drink, completely avoiding my eyes. I had debated between disappearing and leaving a note to save us the pain of goodbyes.

Her sobs the night I told her about my condition were yet to leave my memory and I wasn’t ready to break her heart again, but I also knew I would regret leaving this world without spending the best time with the people I loved.

“Is that what you want?” She clamped her trembling lower lip with her teeth, still not looking at me. “You could bring your brother here you know, and we can all have a good time.”

“I know.” I settled my mug on the side table before doing the same with hers and taking her hand into mine. “But I grew up there and it’s also the only place in the world where I feel a little close to my parents. I figured it would be the best place to retire it all.”

She broke down first, burying her face into the crook of my neck and letting out the most heart-wrenching sound I’ve ever heard.

It wasn’t long before my sobs joined in the agonizing harmony.

Of all the things I’d feared, mourning my life whilst living never made it to the list, and now, it was the only item on the list.
