Chapter 6 #2

A simple command and exactly what a boss should say to his employee and what I’ve been waiting for, but for some reason, I felt the order in the pit of my stomach.

I figured the meeting was over, but I still picked up my stack, smoothed my features and dried my sweaty palms with a serviette. I would look professional, be professional and damn his stupid motives.

I was relieved to find the meeting was still ongoing when I entered. Three men had joined the duo and they had shifted from his work area to the small conference setup overseeing the floor-to-ceiling view of the city below.

“I want you to take the minutes of the meeting and update my itinerary for the week.”

Nikolai’s curled lips told me everything I needed to know.

He called in the competent one to take care of serious business and I was here for what? The leftovers?

“Caroline already sent me the minutes and updated—”

“I have adjustments to make. Sit.”

His tone gave no room for arguments.

I walked to the only empty seat which also happened to be the closest to him.

I set down my writing materials, proceeded to open my journal and mark the date like I wasn’t burning from the heat of his thigh close to mine, and the knowledge that he probably called me in after Caroline because he considered me incapable of handling the big stuff.

The meeting continued with Kazimir barely acknowledging my existence or telling me what detail was important enough to note down.

The men spoke in heavy corporate jargon, but it was clear the important part was over and they were making small talk, addressing competitors and strategies.

Occasionally, I caught Nikolai’s amused expression, but that didn’t make me feel better.

With nowhere to channel my frustration, I turned into a transcriptionist, writing down everything including the jokes.

He wanted minutes of talks about how one of the men had a new competitor and how the CEO only scored the role because he was screwing the heir and hence, not a worthy competitor? I'll give him a full dissertation and tips on how to expose said CEO.

I’ll also throw in a few paragraphs on the leggy model Nikolai wouldn’t stop talking about with pictures and links to her platform attached. If he thought he could leave me out of the important stuff and only bring me in for the foolishness that followed, then I was going to—

“You’re an old-fashioned one, eh?”

A gruff baritone cut through my train of enraged thoughts.

“I prefer writing, it makes things more tangible,” I replied in the most polite way I could.

“Same. I never trust these computers. One wrong click and everything is gone.”

For the first time in the last twenty minutes, I felt myself relax a bit. It was silly small talk, but at least someone was kind enough to acknowledge my presence.

“They do have their advantages. I can't imagine... um…”

A hand settled against the back of my knee, stealing the rest of my sentence.

Heat shot through me so abruptly that I nearly jerked in my seat. My fingers tightened around my pen. Somehow, I managed to stop myself from reacting.

Barely.

“...they just work.”

Brilliant work, Gen.

I’ve probably managed to make myself look like a blithering idiot in my first meeting. I prayed for the ground to open up and swallow me, but Nikolai suddenly decided physical files vs. computer files was a conversation worthy of his attention.

“I would shoot a person if they asked me to write. Never took a single note in college and high school.”

Kazimir’s fingers inched higher, flirting with the spot where the rest of my skin disappeared into my dress.

I tried to move away, but his hand held me still. With the table high enough to conceal most of his arm, no one could make out his movement from the top nor could they see me squirming.

Heat climbed to my neck, and I had to bite the walls of my cheek to keep it down.

For someone who had been told she had the most expressive face all her life, this was the ultimate nightmare.

Could they see how frozen still I was, or my tightly locked jaw?

“…right, Gen?”

It was Kazimir speaking, but I couldn’t bring myself to look at him, so I blurted out the first thing that came to mind.

“Yes.”

“You hate computers that much?” I didn’t need to look at him to know his icy blue orbs were dripping with amusement.

“Guess I’m just old-fashioned,” I replied through a tight-lipped smile even though I had no idea what they were talking about.

I was seething and pissed at my body for reacting so strongly to him despite knowing exactly what he was doing.

He was showing me exactly why he hired me, and the moment someone tried to pull me into a conversation, he suddenly lost his ability to ignore me.

Thankfully, one of the men steered the conversation away from me.

Kazimir’s hand was yet to leave my thigh, but at least I didn’t have to talk through it.

But I did have to live through the way his touch burned through my skin and settled deep in my veins, and the way my pussy pulsed each time he made a little movement. I was embarrassed at the thoughts that formed in my head.

The man was a master of torture, and with no idea of when he’ll decide to proceed higher into my dress and the fear of him doing so and finding my soaked panties, I squeezed my thighs together to limit his movement and instantly regretted the action.

Jolts of current burst in my core, sending tributaries to the rest of me. I couldn’t hold back the shiver that followed.

“Are you alright?” The same man who engaged me earlier asked.

“I’m fine. Just recovering from a mild flu.” I was pleasantly surprised at how steady my voice came out despite the whirlwind brewing inside me.

For some reason, I decided to look right and met Nikolai’s never-ending amusement.

I’d never prayed for a meeting to end so badly.

For the first time since the day started, something finally went my way.

Kazimir’s hand left my thigh and cold air replacing his warmth forced me to the present.

All three men were standing when I regained my senses. I joined them.

“It was a pleasure meeting with you, gentlemen.” The man who had spoken to me earlier shook hands with Nikolai and Kazimir before turning to me. “I hope to see more of you and your interesting journals, Gen.”

I mirrored his pleasant smile. “It was nice to meet you, too.”

The office began to empty and I seized the moment Nikolai pulled Kazimir aside to slip into my office.

My back rested against the door the moment it shut behind me as I tried to pull myself together. My breathing was still erratic and my body hummed from his touch.

I was hardly halfway through my first day and I had successfully made a fool of myself, soaked my panties, and shown my boss just how much his touch affected me.

My decision to hold it together and earn my place weighed on a plastic scale. This was going to be much harder than I thought.
