Chapter 11
“What the fuck was that?” I snapped, shoving Sinclair’s chest. Aggression swelled until my hands were fists. I pushed him again. Sinclair didn’t react, his back slamming against the wall.
His eyes were wide, yet unseeing. So unlike him. One show of dominance, and he usually met it. Right now, I needed the outlet for this severe hunger.
I had a clear view of her features as they molded into pleasure. An itch to give her that expression had spawned deep in my gut. To rut her and have her cry out my name over and over again until she lost her voice.
My cock was so hard, it hurt.
I growled and shoved Sinclair in the direction she’d left.
Getting close to her again was asking for trouble, but he had to have privacy to snap himself free of the webs of his orgasm.
One more shove of his shoulder and he was striding toward where I pushed him.
Sinclair never listened to anything I said, much less stayed still for me to berate him over his stupid decisions.
Get a hold of yourself.
No woman could make me lose control. Of course, I craved it. It was only biology. My Alpha need to give my Scent Match pleasure. It means nothing more than biology.
Sinclair still hadn’t answered me, his attention fixed in the direction she’d disappeared to. My pack-brother never looked at women. Not that way.
I studied the tension on his face. Moments before he’d gone mad, he’d had a Beta attached to his mouth.
His disinterest was clear to see. No wandering hands, no finger in her pussy .
. . he hadn’t been himself. At the base of the staircase, right before it led up to the loft, I pushed him into Kyan’s office, where we’d been sleeping on rotation.
Kyan’s gaze swung up to us with a frown, his phone to his ear.
He swept his gaze over both of us, and his eyebrows rose high on his forehead.
“I’ll call you back, Phantom,” Kyan said and hung up.
No one knew who ‘Phantom’ was. Or if it was only one person, but I didn’t care as long as they handled what they were hired to do with discretion.
“Updates on her documentation?” My question was almost desperate. The faster we had the fake papers, the faster we could get rid of her. One look at Sinclair leaning against the wall, despondent, reinforced my urgency.
I was losing control of the situation.
“What happened to you two?” Kyan sucked in a breath, and it ended in a groan, flicking to Sinclair. “You fucked her,” he whispered and stood suddenly.
His chest heaved, and he shook his head, taking a step back, exhaling. Kyan regained control, his expression visibly tensing as he stiffly straightened.
“What the fuck happened?” Kyan muttered. “Where is she?”
Sinclair’s abrupt laugh cut through the tension in the room. He was suddenly in Kyan’s face. “What, are you going to go comfort her?” he snarled, but Kyan didn’t cower.
Aggression continued to line his body, rippling from his flexing arms. Kyan looked up at me, eyebrows furrowed so hard, they cut two divots between them. Sinclair muttered profanities, pacing away from Kyan when he didn’t meet the violence.
“His Alpha instinct was triggered,” I explained.
Kyan’s brows arched. “What the fuck?”
I’d never heard of it, but I’d also never heard of Alphas taking suppressants while knowing their Omega.
“I’ll go check on her.”
Sinclair got in Kyan’s face again, shoulders rolling.
“You going to comfort her? Chase after her like a bitch-ass pup—”
“What?” Kyan bit out, a red flush working up his neck, temper flaring, giving Sinclair the reaction he wanted.
“You bought the hair dye for her?” he said, breathing raggedly.
“And?” Kyan met his eyes in a challenge. His intensity took me off guard. He was never one to fight anything.
“Why would you let her bleach her hair?”
Kyan and I clashed gazes again. Sinclair was all over the place.
“Sin,” I snapped.
“What?” He whirled, teeth bared. Once he was close enough, I slammed my fist into his temple. One. Two. In quick succession. He stumbled, shaking his head. Kyan caught him as his eyes rolled back, and he dropped to the ground.
I hissed a breath out between my clenched teeth. “Hard head.” I shook my hand out, the throb numbing it.
“We have to get rid of her. Quickly.”
Kyan’s lips thinned and skittered to his computer screen.
“There’s something you both should know.”
“She kept mentioning ‘Alice Lane’ . . .” His jaw worked side to side. She’d insisted on knowing about her.
“Spit it out.”
“Alice Lane. Went by Ali when we knew her.”
I cocked my head. He said it as if I should know what he was talking about. A flash of a face crossed my memory. Was it the brunette or the blonde?
“Ali.” He mimed huge breasts in front of him. “The Omega we were fucking before Demi.”
I stiffened. “The one who tried to burn Sin’s car?”
“That one.” Kyan snapped his fingers.
“Fuck.” It began to connect in my head.
“She hadn’t let our separation go as well as we believed. After us, she started spending a lot of time with different packs—including Bourne Pack. She must have had dirt on them.” He rubbed his jaw with his palm. “Alice Lane was found dead in an alley. Her death ruled a suicide.”
Bourne Pack—there was no other explanation.
“Briar needs to fill in the gaps.”
Kyan nodded, his pensive expression settling.
“That girl couldn’t kill anyone. She’s innocent. If she hadn’t come here, she’d be dead, too,” he said.
I knew what that glint in his eyes meant. “No,” I snapped. “We’re not doing more than getting her out of the country. After that, it’s out of our hands.”
“I didn’t say anything,” he muttered.
“No, but I know you, Kyan. We can’t get involved in trying to clear her name. The safest bet for everyone is for her to disappear.”
Kyan sighed and pressed down on his temple.
“What do we do about Sin?” He jerked his chin to our pack-brother who’d lost it over a woman for the first time in his life. “What if he goes after her again?”
“I’ll keep an eye on him. You go and speak to her.” He gave me a look I refused to acknowledge. I was scared, but I’d never admit that.
Sheer will had allowed me to blind myself to the truth: every female paled to her. And they always would.
