Chapter 16 #5
We sit, and I try to listen but I don’t hear a word of what’s being discussed because all I can do is focus on not looking at Ralph and feeling his slimy eyes on me the whole time.
My knee bounces and I wring my fingers together as Alaric and Tatum argue with the other heads of the families.
“Relax,” Jamie’s soft voice whispers in my ear, his hand on my knee, giving it a squeeze. “Everything is going to be fine, okay?”
Licking my lips, I nod. “Okay.”
“Are they even connected? Those deaths happened on the other side of the country." That catches my attention.
“Of course they are. Same MO. And in the reports I was able to get my hands on, similar outcome on the toxicology report,” my father says.
“Wait.” Ralph looks at my dad with surprise. “You got reports on the past students' deaths?”
“Of course I did. When I heard I was to blame for the previous deaths, I looked into it.”
Ralph tries to look unfazed but I see it. And by the look on my alphas’ faces, they do too. But they don’t say anything. Not yet.
“I think it’s safe to say as of right now, none of us are at fault for this. But we have to figure out who it is, and put an end to it,” Alaric says, just as the door slams open.
“Sorry, sorry.” A voice chuckles. “Sorry I’m late.”
My eyes widen when I see a tall guy with blond hair walk over to the chair at the end of the table.
He pulls the chair out and throws himself down.
“I was kind of busy. You know how it is. Business to handle, people to kill.” He waves his hand like it’s no big deal.
“So, what did I miss? Which one of you ugly fuckers are being naughty and dealing dirty drugs.” He grins widely.
Everyone is quiet for a moment and I’m guessing it’s for the same reason I am.
I have no idea who he is, and what family he represents but this man is shirtless and covered in blood. Like, not just specks, but like he took a bath in it.
“What?” He looks around the room. “Do I have something in my teeth?” He starts to pick at it and Jamie laughs.
“Who is that?” I whisper.
“That would be Ghost. He’s the baby brother of the Maxin family. Crazy motherfucker that one is. I’m surprised he’s here. He normally has nothing to do with family business.”
“What the fuck are you doing here?” My father growls. “Where are your brothers?”
Ghost leans back in his chair, resting his feet on the table without a care in the world “Busy.” He shrugs. “This was a little bit of a last minute meeting and they didn’t want to miss it, so I was the only choice available. Are you all happy to see me? It’s been awhile.”
“Fuck’s sake.” Someone groans.
“Now. Anyone care to fill me in?” Ghost looks around.
“You would know if you were here on time.” my dad growls out.
Ghost sighs heavily and drops his feet from the table and leans forward.
“Listen here, old man. Some of us have lives and can’t drop things at the snap of the fingers.
I gave up torturing someone to be here. Just as things were getting good too.
” He chuckles, nudging the lady sitting next to him, looking wildly uncomfortable and even a little scared.
“Have you ever seen a man get his dick chopped off? So much blood.” He waves to the blood on his body.
Holy fuck, this man is covered in penis blood.
“And I thought our pack was crazy,” Jamie murmurs. “We got nothing on this fucker.”
“Leave.” My father growls, jumping to his feet and leans his hands on the table, getting closer to the crazy man.
Ghost gets to his feet and leans over the table, matching my father’s position. “Make. Me.” He grins maniacally, his white teeth showing. “Spank me hard enough, and I might just listen. Or cum.” He winks.
My fathers nostrils flare, a rage I rarely see. The two of them stare at one another and in a blink of an eye, the whole room shifts.
Ghost’s eyes widen. “No fucking way.”
My father shakes his head. “No.”
“Oh shit.” Jamie laughs. “Oh my god.”
“What?” I ask, looking between Ghost, my dad then to Jamie.
“We should go,” Alaric says, standing and pulling at my arm.
Everyone else in the room starts to whisper but they too seem to think they have to leave. What the fuck is going on?
“Come on, babe.” Tatum says. “Time to go.”
“What?” Jamie groans. “It was just getting good.”
“What is going on?” I demand as the two men stare at one another in shocked horror.
“If you don’t want to see your daddy bend that crazy bastard over and fuck him like a wild animal, I’d say we should go,” Tatum says.
I gape at him, so fucking confused.
“Scent match, babe. Your dad just met his new omega.”
“Oh fuck.” My eyes widen, snapping over to my dad who looks like he’s having an existential crisis right now.
“Yeah. We should give them some space,” Alaric says.
“Well shit.” I let them pull me out of the room. “I was not expecting that.”
I’m in no way in the right mindset to even think about my dad being mated to some crazy omega. But I sure as hell plan on sitting down and talking to him about it after all of this.
“What do we do now?” I ask the guys as we head down to the car.
“We find the fucker behind all of this,” Jamie says.
“How?”
“Leave that to us,” Alaric says. “We have this covered okay?” He grips my shoulders, giving them a squeeze. “You don’t have to do this alone, Beckham.”
I stare at him, my eyes stinging with tears as I fight not to let them fall.
“You’re not alone anymore,” he murmurs, pulling me forward to kiss my forehead. “We got you.”
They have me. I’m going to be okay. For the first time in my life, I truly believe I’m going to be okay.
