Chapter 40 - Jace

Jace

It had been a month, and I couldn’t get enough of this woman.

Every time we were together felt like the very first time. New touches raising goosebumps, electricity passing from her body into mine. I kept waiting for it to lose its newness, the raw intensity that came from having sex with someone for the first time. But it never did.

If anything, it only got better.

I practically skipped down the hall to Lila’s bedroom to retrieve the toys.

Brock and I had spent the past month using Lila however we saw fit, in every possible combination, but we still hadn’t gotten a chance to double-penetrate her.

Every time we tried, one of us blew his load too quickly, or it was just a little too intense for Lila to handle.

Tonight was going to be different. I could feel it. We were finally going to succeed, and Cam was going to be part of it.

I was so fucking excited for him. He had no idea how great this was going to be. And I was thrilled that he was finally comfortable enough to join us.

But when I returned to the living room, Lila was sitting on the couch staring at her phone. Cam hadn’t moved from the chair, his hard-on rapidly diminishing even though I’d only been gone less than a minute.

“We have a problem,” Lila said, eyes wide with fear.

I took the phone and stared at it, not really comprehending what was happening. After a few seconds, I saw that it was an email from a random Yahoo account. The subject said: “I know.”

And the body of the email contained a single sentence.

“Oh fuck,” I said.

“I don’t know who that is,” Lila said, wrapping her arms around herself.

She was beginning to tremble, and her breaths were quick and shallow.

“I don’t know what they know, or how, but obviously we haven’t been careful enough.

Not if someone was able to find out. What are we going to do, Jace? I don’t know if I can…”

“Shh,” I said, sitting next to her and wrapping her in my arms. I rubbed my palms over her arms to warm her up. “Relax. I think you’re having a panic attack.”

“Telling. Me to. Relax. Isn’t. Helping.”

I grabbed the blanket off the back of the couch and wrapped it around her, then went back to the bedroom. I returned with sweatpants and a sweatshirt, and helped her get dressed. While I did that, Cam awkwardly put his jeans back on.

“Do we think it’s a student?” I asked. “Or faculty?”

“I don’t know…” Lila moaned. She wasn’t shaking anymore, but she was still terrified.

I couldn’t blame her. Unlike the rest of us, she had a lot to lose by our relationships becoming public.

Cam darted over to the door to grab his backpack, then sat back down with his laptop. “I’m going to have you login to your email on my laptop. That will give me better tools to see what I can find.”

“Okay,” Lila replied.

Cam handed her the laptop. She typed slowly, one finger at a time hunting and pecking.

“Whatever you do, don’t respond to them,” Cam said firmly. “Let me do some work first.”

There was no sign of the awkward, bashful kid anymore. Now, Camden Keene was firmly in his element, fingers flying over the keyboard like a blur.

“You picked the right student to bang,” I told Lila, trying to get a laugh out of her. “If anyone can figure out who sent that email, it’s Cam.”

She grunted, but didn’t so much as smile.

“Let me make you a drink.” I got up and went into the kitchen.

“There’s beer in the fridge,” she called.

“You need something stronger.” I found a bottle of gin in the cabinet and added it to a glass with a handful of ice. I added a splash of lime juice, then took a sip before giving it to Lila.

“It’s strong,” she said, coughing in surprise.

“That’s by design.”

Her wide eyes cut over to me. “Brock’s drinks are better.”

Cam snorted.

“I was going for potency, not flavor,” I replied dryly. “Normally I’m not a fan of drowning one’s sorrows in a bottle, but this feels like an appropriate exception.”

“Agreed,” Cam said.

“You want one?” I asked him.

“Get me something with caffeine,” he commanded without taking his eyes off his laptop. “I’m going to be at this for a while.”

I didn’t even mind that he was giving me orders. I was happy to see him acting more confident. “Coming right up.”

I found a Diet Coke for Cam. He scowled at it, then drank it anyway.

“Just relax,” I told Lila. “And I’m not just telling you to do it. I’m going to help.”

I pushed her sideways on the couch and raised her feet up into my lap, then started digging my thumbs into her foot. She let out a long moan that rivaled anything sexual we had done tonight.

“That’s exactly what I need,” she said blissfully.

For a while, we were all silent as I gave Lila a foot massage. The only sound was of Cam’s keyboard as he focused on his task.

Eventually, the keypad on the front door chimed as someone outside punched in the code. Brock stormed inside, dropping his backpack on the ground and heading straight for Lila.

“How are you doing?” he asked in a rush.

“What are you doing here?” she demanded. “Who texted you?”

“I did,” I said.

She glared at me, but turned her attention back to Brock. “You shouldn’t have left work early. This could have waited until tomorrow.”

“It was a slow night,” he argued. “Kayla’s covering for me. She owed me a favor because I closed for her last week. Tell me what happened, and start from the beginning.”

We spent a few minutes catching him up.

“My guess is a student,” I said. “Someone who saw us, or overheard us talking about it.”

“But we’ve been careful,” Lila complained. “It’s been months since I’ve done anything more than smile at you guys.”

“Maybe they were waiting to gather more information?” I offered.

“I don’t think it’s a student,” Brock said. “The email came from a Yahoo account. Nobody under the age of thirty would use one of those.”

“That’s not the most scientific guess,” I muttered.

“It’s more scientific than your theory,” she shot back angrily.

“And thanks for making me feel old. I still have my old Yahoo email account,” I added.

“Of course you do. You’re ancient,” Brock said with a little more venom in his tone.

“Please don’t fight over this,” Lila interrupted. “It’s already stressful enough. Teammates, not competition, right?”

I shared a look with Brock, then said, “Right.”

“Your fighting is also distracting me,” Cam chirped up. “Me, the one person actively working on fixing this problem. So if you guys want to argue, do it in another room!”

Brock blinked, then glanced at me with a look that said: when did he get so assertive?

Right? I shot back at him with my eyebrows.

“Hey, can you change one of my grades?” Brock asked him. “Like in Ferris Bueller?”

Without glancing, Cam asked, “What’s a Ferris Bueller?”

Brock sank back into the couch next to Lila. “Oh my God. Now it’s my turn to feel old.”

“Stop distracting him,” I said. “Cam, are you making progress at all?”

“Too early to tell.” He stopped to look over at us. “I think I’ll be able to get some information on whoever made this Yahoo account, but it will take a few hours, minimum.”

Cam closed his laptop and sighed. “I’ll work faster if I have more real estate.”

“Real estate?” Lila asked.

“More computer monitors. So I can look at four different lines of code at the same time. I’m heading back to my dorm room.”

“Keep us updated?” I said.

“I’ll put all my updates in the group chat.”

I clasped hands with him, then decided to go in for a hug instead. He felt awkward in my arms for a moment, then returned the embrace.

“Good work, dude,” Brock said as he, too, hugged the younger man.

“Don’t congratulate me yet.”

Lila hugged him for a long time, then kissed him slowly on the lips. “Thank you.”

“I’m sorry this is happening,” Cam told her. “I’m sorry if I caused all this trouble, that’s not what—”

“You didn’t cause anything,” she reassured him. “This isn’t anyone’s fault except mine.”

Cam tried a hopeful smirk, then shouldered his bag and left.

“You two don’t have to stick around,” Lila told us. “I’m not in the mood for anything fun. If you want to get home…”

“There’s so much more about you that I care about beyond sex,” I said. “I’m not going anywhere.”

Brock nodded firmly. “Neither of us are.”

The look on Lila’s face was pure relief.

I shared another knowing look with Brock. We were teammates, not competition.

And right now, Lila needed all the teamwork she could get.
