Chapter 9
Delaney
Life was completely back to normal, and Amaryllis was back to visiting my mama and daddy at the ranch, along with Pepper. I tried to protest it, but it seemed everyone felt she was ready, so I let her go. She stayed the weekend with my parents which meant Cole stayed the weekend with me. When Amaryllis had her accident, Cole stepped in, and it was like he had always been around, like it was meant to be this way.
I was laying in bed, staring at the light trying to peek through the crack in my blackout curtains. Cole snaked his arm around my waist and pulled me back against him. “You’re so far away,” he mumbled into the back of my hair. It made me smile.
Turning over to face him, I brought my hand up to his face, his eyes were still closed, so I traced his eyebrow and then under his eye with my thumb. “What are we doing?” I whispered.
He grumbled a little and then opened his eyes. Cole looked at you like he was reading and memorizing your soul. His eyes were a deep brown, and they were big. There was no hiding his emotions with those gorgeous eyes. “We’re having a good time, babe.” He closed his eyes again.
“Cole. Be serious. We can’t avoid the work thing. We go back tomorrow. I hate pretending we don’t know each other but we have to be careful.”
He pulled me closer to him. I could feel him getting hard against me. Tossing my leg over his waist, he pushed his hips into me. “We’ll be careful. Stop thinking so much.” He leaned in and kissed me, and then reached his hand under my shirt and up to my breasts rubbing and pinching my nipple.
“Cole…” I moaned as I pushed my hips back in return.
“Come on. We have a few hours alone.” He dug his head into my neck and peppered kisses all over until he reached my chest again. “Take this off.” I sat up and lifted my shirt over my head and slid my panties off as he took his boxers off. Laying back, he kneeled between my legs and hovered above me on his elbows. Kiss after kiss, his kisses set my body on fire. The expert way he moved his tongue and the feel of his hands on my skin made me feel like I couldn’t get close enough to him. I never wanted him to stop touching me. “I want to bury myself in you and stay there.”
“Oh god…” He kissed me again. I reached between us and stroked his cock, listening to him moan under his breath with each stroke. “Cole, I need you.” I finally said.
He placed his arms on both sides of my head and said, “Put me where you need me.” Reaching between us again, I guided him into me, rubbing him back and forth against my slickness and then in one push he filled me up. “That’s right, baby. We fit together perfectly, from day one.” He moved in and out of me, slowly, passionately, which is how it’s been since our first night together. Cole was about love making. He was about time and making sure every inch of me felt good, and every inch of him did the work. With each movement, I felt like I was falling deeper… deeper in what, I didn’t know. Was it love? Lust? Was it the thrill of possibly getting caught but always getting away with sneaking around? Cole made me feel alive and that was something I hadn’t felt since I lived in New York.
“Cole, faster.” I gripped his ass as he pumped in and out of me faster. Each thrust a little harder than before. “I’m gonna cum.”
“Look at me, Laney girl. Look at me as you fall apart.” He buried himself faster, harder, and deeper and I did just that, fell apart and he followed.
“Fuck. You feel so good.” He said as he finished. Slowly pulling out of me, he kissed me and then laid on his back.
“I’m going to pee and shower. Little miss will be home soon.” I said and got out of bed. “You can get in when I’m finished.” I needed a minute alone. Cole was avoiding the fact that what we were doing couldn’t last, it wouldn’t. There were rules and he was being careless. One of us had to be smart and think about the bigger picture. Even if it meant that we couldn’t be together. It was just supposed to be one night.

Amaryllis loves breakfast for dinner on occasion and she was going to be home any minute and word on the street was that she wanted that for dinner. I had made the works, pancakes with chocolate chips, bacon, scramby eggs as she calls them, and strawberry banana juice.
Cole was sitting at the dining room table just watching me move about the kitchen. “What’re you looking at, Professor Taylor?”
He laughed. “Just lovin’ the way you move.” He made me blush. We both jumped when we heard the doorbell ring. “I’ll get it. You finish up,” he said.
“COLEYYYY! You’re here.” Amaryllis yelled.
“Did you have fun, sweetheart?” I heard him ask. “Hi, Mr. Anderson. Good to see you again.”
“Oh, enough of that Mr. Anderson stuff. Call me David. It’s good to see you again too, Cole.”
It made me smile to hear them talking to each other. I heard the stomps of little feet running into the kitchen. “Walk!” I yelled.
“Sorry, mama! It smells good in here.”
“Well, it should. I’ve made you breakfast for dinner. You’re favorite, chocolate chip pancakes.” Her little eyes lit up and she hugged me.
“Is Cole staying for dinner? I think he will like your chocolate chip pancakes, mama!” She went and sat at the table.
“He is.” I looked up as Cole and my dad entered the kitchen. “Daddy, you staying for dinner? You’re welcome to.”
“Oh no, sweetie. Your mama is cookin’ us a feast. It’s just the two of us but she always makes a meal for an army, so I better arrive hungry.” He laughed and I smiled.
“Was Amaryllis good with you?” I side eyed Amaryllis and she was rolling her eyes, making me laugh.
“She was an angel, as always. She’s getting better with Pepper too! Strong as ever!” He said and went over and kissed Amaryllis on the top of her head. “Have a good week, kiddo. Be good for your mama.” Then he came over and hugged me. “Let’s all have dinner next weekend.” He emphasized all, winked and nodded to Cole, making me blush.
“Ok, daddy. We’ll figure out the best time and day. Tell mama hi.”
My dad said bye to everyone and was gone. I served the three of us dinner and it was perfect, full of laughter as we listened to Amaryllis’ weekend adventures on the ranch. I watched Cole as he listened intently to Amaryllis. I wanted him around, all the time. When he was here, things weren’t just good, they were perfect.
Amaryllis spoke up, “Can we watch The Secret Garden?”
She has watched that movie so many times since her accident. “Again?” I said.
“Pleeeease?” She begged.
Rolling my eyes, I said, “Oh fine! I suppose one more time won’t hurt.”
She looked at Cole with the biggest smile and whispered, “We have to start planning the dance around the fire!”
Cole’s laugh rang through the whole room. “Yeah, sure thing. Go change your clothes and let’s get set up on the couch.”
Cole and Amaryllis were watching the movie while I cleaned up dinner and picked up the house in prep for the work week. I was fine with it because as much as I love The Secret Garden, I passed on another showing.
I was loading dishes in the dishwasher when the doorbell went off. “Laney, you want me to get it?” Cole called out.
“No, it’s ok. Thank you. I got it.” Drying my hands and tossing the rag over my shoulder, I went to answer the door. When I opened it, it was the last person I ever expected to see on my doorstep, and it stunned me silent.
