Telling Mason that I was okay with just hooking up, just being friends with benefits, just screwing around, and acting like we could go back to normal after was the worst idea I’ve ever had.
I don’t know what I was thinking.
I don’t know why I thought it would be a good idea to have sex with one of my best friends, and everything could still be…the same after.
I’m not stupid; I can’t lie to myself and say I don’t like Mason. I do. I even…love him—as a friend, of course. I mean, I don’t know if that correlates romantically, but it’s definitely not looking good in that department—not for my heart.
I was just so wrapped up in the lust that’s been building between us, and every thought I’ve had of Mason’s hands on me, that I didn’t think about the consequences. About how my heart is being set up for another round of knives to it like it was with Tyler.
It just…it feels so good with him. It’s like nothing I’ve ever felt before.
I guess that’s what happens when you go from losing your virginity with someone and both of you just trying to figure out how it all works—and one side being more concerned with their own pleasure rather than learning what feels good for you—to being with someone who has a lot of experience.
That’s the part that scares me. How long can this friends-with-benefits thing actually last before he inevitably finds someone more attractive, more willing, and less caring than me?
How long can I act like I’m not being so dumb, falling for someone so soon?
How long can I enjoy the high that he gives me before the inevitable comedown?
How stupid do I look that all I can think about right now is seeing Mason today? Even if I have to hide the way my mind and body so easily light up around him because other people will be around.
At least there’s the distraction of the charity car wash today to make it all a little less obvious and a lot less embarrassing.
That’s the only reason I’m up at this time of the morning—to be anywhere he is.
I have three other Gamma girls in the car with me, driving to the other side of campus, where all the frat houses are hosting their annual car-washing fundraiser.
I think this is the most excited the girls get all year.
No one has stopped yapping about who they want to see shirtless and all sudsed up.
“All I want to see are Tanner and Mike’s eight packs firmly pressed against my window,” Lucy says, twisting her hair and grinning from the back seat like a literal schoolgirl.
“I’ll take Tank,” Chloe laughs.
Emily pokes her head up between the two front seats and turns towards me. “I need you to put in a good word for me with Mason. I know y’all are all buddy-buddy now. You’re all…” She thinks for a moment, then snaps her fingers. “Buffy and Xander vibes.”
“Or Meredith and Alex,” Chloe suggests in a high-pitched voice.
I shake my head, laughing, trying to play off the actual internal reaction I’m having right now with them talking about Mason—about Mason and me.
“Have you two…ever hooked up?” Lucy asks with the biggest grin on her face. “And was it mind-blowing if you did?”
I almost choke. “What? No. Ew. No, we’ve never…no, we’ve never done anything.”
Yes, we have…and yes, it was mind-blowing…and no, I don’t want to put in a good word for you or anyone else with him.
“I was just joking,” Lucy says, giggling. “You two act more like siblings sometimes.”
“Yeah, exactly,” I agree, hoping the expression on my face doesn’t give me away.
“So…will you?” Emily asks again.
I try to clear my throat and shake off the way I really just want to tell her to back off. “Um, yeah, sure.”
That most definitely will not be happening.
When we pull up, it’s already pure chaos. All I see are shirtless boys rubbing their bodies along all the cars and laughing as they dance and put on a show for everyone to watch.
When it’s our turn, Tanner walks up to my window, and I roll it down.
“Ladies,” he says, scanning to see who all is in the car. “It’s a lovely day to support a good cause and have a little fun doing it.”
“The fun part is what we’re here for,” Kate tells him, giving him a look like she wants to climb him right here in the parking lot.
Tanner smiles and winks at her before turning back to me. “It’ll be twenty bucks, girls.”
I pull out my wallet and hand him a twenty, then he directs us to pull up to one of the open spots.
My eyes find Mason, and he’s already looking at me, waving us over so we’ll be in his bay.
He holds up a sign that says: CAR OFF AND WINDOWS UP. THINGS ARE ABOUT TO GET REALLY WET AROUND HERE.
Once I shut the car off, he puts the sign down and walks over to a box on a nearby chair, pulling out a pink car marker.
And with a smirk, he hops on the hood of my car, staring directly at me—hair slicked from the water, shirt clinging to every muscle, and the most devious look on his face—then he writes in huge letters on my windshield: PRETTY GIRL.
The girls all start cheering immediately, fake fanning themselves, and acting like a bunch of horny teenagers.
He hops back down, holding my stare while I fight back a smile. Then Chase hoses the windshield down, making me jump a little because I wasn’t paying attention—too distracted by Mason.
Tank takes one of the rags and points to the girls in the back before squeezing it out over his shirtless and ripped body. That boy is the definition of a meathead gym boy, but he’s also one of the sweetest guys in the Sig house.
“Damn, I love supporting philanthropy,” Chloe groans out.
I can’t stop laughing at all of it. They’re all so insane and very entertaining.
Suddenly, every door is being yanked open, and I scream when I see Mason—trouble written all over his face.
“You better not!”
“Look around, pretty girl. Little too late.”
I look around the inside of my car and realize every girl has been dragged out by one of the boys and are now outside, rubbing soap all over them and squealing.
I look back to Mason, the anticipation feeling like a hot wire I’m about to touch—gladly touch at that.
I shake my head, even though I fully want whatever’s about to happen…to happen.
He reaches over and plugs his phone into my aux, and Birthday Sex by Jeremih plays as he turns it up to the max volume.
My hand slaps my mouth in shock, and the laugh I’m trying to hold in is threatening to come out very loud and very unladylike.
Mason signals outside the car to a couple of the guys, and suddenly the car is covered in soap so thick you can’t see outside any of the windows.
“I heard someone has a birthday coming up,” he whispers. “I’ve got a gift to deliver.”
The blush that creeps onto my cheeks is beyond embarrassing.
Mason slides into my car, fully soaked and covered in soap. He starts dancing on me the best he can in this awkward position, and no matter how funny he’s trying to be, it’s still all ridiculously sexy.
He gives me every one of his best moves, grinding on me, rubbing his hands along my thighs, and even taking the soap off his body and spreading it along my cheek before taking his tongue and licking it off.
“No way did that taste good!” I say, shocked and appalled.
He moves right next to my ear, his mouth brushing against my skin. “You always taste good.”
He tortuously kisses my neck before sliding back out of the car and pulling me with him.
“What are you doing?” I ask, still breathless and laughing.
“I need a rinse—stat!”
Before I can say no, I’m soaked head to toe in water.
Mason picks me up and places me on the hood of my car, hands gripping tightly onto my hips.
“Put your hands on my shoulders and hold on.”
I do as he says, confused, but going along with whatever he tells me to do. He starts moving me back and forth on the hood, and I burst out laughing. “I’m not a fucking rag, Mase!”
His voice drops lower, just for me. “I wish it were your mess I was cleaning up right now.”
I throw my head back and close my eyes at the thought, lost in the way this man can make me feel things through my entire body with just his words.
I collect myself and then take my hands from his shoulders and cross them over my chest. “I’m so gonna get you back for this.”
Mason stops, looking up at me and smirks. “I love being in trouble with you.”
He finally lifts me and puts me down, setting me on my feet. Then his eyes flick around, quickly assessing.
Everyone’s distracted.
He grabs my wrist and pulls me over to a car parked off to the side, guiding me behind it, where no one can see us. His hands find my waist, and he pulls me closer to him.
All the noise around us dulls, and everything else fades away.
He kisses me before I can even say anything, hands moving up to my ribs, making me feel every ounce of need radiating from him.
He tastes like whiskey and soap. And as gross as that combination should be, I can’t get enough of it—can’t get enough of him.
He pulls back slightly. “I’m obsessed with kissing you.”
“Then why did you stop?” I whisper.
His eyes narrow on mine as he smiles. “Touché. My apologies. Let me continue.”
My laugh flows through the kiss as he cups the base of my skull, pressing into me more.
He eventually pulls back, kissing my forehead. “We’ll have to pick this back up later, pretty girl.”
I nod, not being able to form any words.
“Come over tonight?” he asks.
I give him a look like I’m thinking about it. “Only if you have enough ice cream and a trashy show for us to binge.”
He steps back, taking my hand and pulling it up to his mouth, kissing the back of it. “I’ll make sure Chase is busy, the freezer is stocked, and the remote has your name on it.”
“Then I guess I’ll see you tonight, Playboy.”
We walk back over to everyone together like nothing just happened. All the girls are still having a blast, watching the boys do a striptease and spraying them down with the hoses they’ve stolen.
Mason walks over to the tent set up and grabs a couple of towels, then walks over to my car, opening the doors.
He carefully unfolds and places a towel on every seat.
“There you go, princess,” he says, gesturing to the driver’s seat.
I call out for the girls to leave the man candy alone and get back in the car with me. They all groan and then reluctantly walk over, getting in.
Mason sends me one last glance that’s full of desire and all the things he plans on doing to me later. And I send him one back, telling him I’ll gladly be waiting.
