Foolish.
That’s how I was feeling at this very moment.
Here I was, acting like a spoiled brat that couldn’t get her way when my husband was doing that the whole time.
I couldn’t believe that I was standing in the middle of my dream home.
I had to give it to Gabe. He remembered every single detail that I mentioned when we talked about the kind of house that we would raise our children in.
I was too embarrassed to even face him right now.
“Baby, I really don’t know what to say. This is…is everything I asked you for or ever mentioned. I can’t believe you really did this,” I cried.
“Believe it. You know anything that makes your day a little brighter, I’m going to always be down for. I wanted all of this to be a surprise. It was hard as hell keeping it a secret, and I almost folded a few times, but I had to follow through. I even had Quita help me at the end.”
“That’s explains her strange behavior,” I voiced.
“I only told her because you were getting suspicious, and I couldn’t have that. I asked her to decorate since she knew your taste. Shan even helped too.”
“So everyone knew except for me?” I asked.
“Nobody but Gary until the very end.”
I stood in the middle of what was our bedroom and just admired all of this effort this man has put into making me happy.
Here I was about to throw all of this away because of my hating ass daddy.
I got a few choice words for him as soon as I laid my eyes on him.
Hearing my phone ring snapped me from my thoughts.
When I looked at the screen and saw that it was Chiquita, I immediately answered.
“You sneaky hoe,” I said as soon as her face popped on the screen with a smile a mile wide.
“Do you love it?” she asked.
“I do. I can’t believe y’all kept this from me. I still need to check out everything that you picked out because you swear you know me.” We both laughed because we both knew that she did.
“And I do. That house is gorgeous, sis. Gabe did his big one,” she praised.
Looking over at my husband, I couldn’t help the smile that formed on my face. He caught me looking at him and returned the gesture.
“Go enjoy your new house and your husband. I’ll talk to you later.” I hung up with my sister and gave Gabe my undivided attention.
“You know it wouldn’t be right if we didn’t christen this place.” I smirked.
“Oh word? Well…” he picked me up, “how about we fix that before we go back to the other house. We can stay here or the other place. We would just need to get the necessities to carry us through the night.” By this time, we were back upstairs, and I was stretched out over this big ass bed with my husband’s face lodged between my legs, sucking the life out of me.
“Oh, gawd…Gabe,” I whimpered as he flicked and swirled his tongue over my bud.
I don’t see how I could ever forget this man.
He did things to my body that you had no choice but to remember.
Feeling myself about to succumb to the feeling that he was delivering, I braced myself by grabbing a hold of his kinky hair and grinding my pussy into his face.
“Ahh…shi…baby,” I whined as the orgasm ripped through my core.
“Mhm,” Gabe moaned, still sucking me into submission. When he got up, I didn’t have any downtime before he entered me and filling me up.
“Damn, Snook,” he groaned in my neck as he began to rock in and out of my slickness. The feeling was unimaginable, and I never wanted it to end.
Gabe had to be near his peak because the way he flipped me over and fucked me until I had no more tears was crazy. When he filled me up with his kids, I just knew that would be our baby. As he slid out of me, my body shuddered.
“You know I love you, right?” I asked. I know my actions had him second guessing himself and I couldn’t have that.
“I do, but you can say that shit again.” He smirked before kissing my lips. Silently, I thanked God for a second chance at my marriage. I promise not to fumble it this time.

After our session at the new house, Gabe and I came home. I wanted to nap, but he wasn’t having it, so I got my ass up. It was still early, so I would pack a bag to take to the house and then shoot by Walmart to get a few essentials. I’ll go get whatever else I need tomorrow.
“You going straight to the house?” he asked, coming out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around his waist.
“No. I’m going to go by Walmart then to my parent’s house,” I revealed.
“You want me to go with you?” he asked.
“No. I need to talk to them by myself…especially my daddy.”
“Aight, but I’m telling you now if that old ass nigga says some shit that I even feel like is disrespect, I’m knocking his ass out.” He looked me dead in the eyes, so I knew he wasn’t lying.
“Hopefully it doesn’t get to that. I’ll call you when I leave, though.”
“Bet. I’m about to shoot by the office and holla at Gary. I’m not going to do any work. I just needed to chop it up with him.” I could tell he was giving me this explanation because he felt like he needed to explain his actions. I hate that I even got him to that point.
“It’s okay if you go to work, Gabe. I promised you I wasn’t going to act like a spoiled brat anymore. If you need to work, I’ll be fine. Besides, I have a brand new house that I need to finish decorating.” I wrapped my arms around his waist, and he bent down to kiss me.
“And I promised you I wouldn’t be working so much if I didn’t have to. I know I cut the trip short, but we’re still on vacation so I’m not going to be long so don’t be at your people house all night.”
“Okay, Daddy. I’ll see you when you get back home.
” Placing another kiss on his lips, I grabbed my purse and headed downstairs so that I could leave.
When I got into my truck, I took a minute to reflect on things.
I was really about to mess up my marriage for nothing.
My father didn’t make it any better when he only egged the shit on and not say that I needed to trust my husband.
I guess he feels like he’s the only one that could be a good husband.
I made my first stop at Walmart so I could grab the basics.
I would hit up Sam’s tomorrow for the bulk items, even though I had stuff at home.
I brought new mops and brooms because my grandmother told me to never bring those things from one house to the next.
I went through each aisle, making sure that I wasn’t missing anything, before I headed to the counter to check out. While I was waiting, my mother called.
“Hey, Ma,” I answered.
“Hey baby. How you feeling?” she asked.
“I’m doing great. I’m actually in Walmart grabbing some things. I was going to stop by once I got done.”
“You’re back already?” she asked.
“I am, but we’ll talk about it when I get there.”
“Okay…” she dragged out.
After I hung up with my mother, it was my turn to pay for my things.
I was hoping to stay under three hundred dollars, and I barely missed it by seventy-two cents.
Once I piled the bags into my truck, I headed to my parent’s house to have this much needed talk with them.
When I pulled up and saw my father’s car, I was elated because he was just the person I wanted to see.
I got out and sauntered my way up the sidewalk and rang the doorbell and waited for someone to open the door for me.
A few seconds later, my mother appeared on the opposite side of the door.
“Girl, where is your key?” she asked, stepping to the side.
“I didn’t realize I didn’t have it until I got here. It’s probably home. Where’s Daddy?” I asked, looking around for him.
“In the den,” she revealed. Nodding, I headed in that distraction with her hot on my heels.
When I walked inside of the den, I saw my father sitting on the sofa looking over some papers. When he saw me, he put the papers down and gave me his undivided attention.
“Hey baby girl. I thought you were out of town with that husband of yours,” he greeted.
“I was. That’s actually the reason I came by.
I got my memory back while we were out of town.
Everything came rushing back to me, leading up to the accident.
You were right. Gabe was calling me right before I crashed, but it was because he was checking up on me, because I had been ignoring him all day.
I remember coming to talk to Ma and she told me to go home and talk to my husband, but in the back of my head I heard your voice telling me to leave that no good nigga. ”
“Well, I’m glad you got your memory back, sweetheart. Now you can finally remember that nigga was never any good for you,” he bleated.
“That’s where you’re wrong, daddy. Here. Look at this.” I handed him my phone that had the video and pictures of our new home.
“What’s this?” he asked, still looking through the pictures.
“It’s the reason my husband was spending so much time at work.
I asked Gabe to build me my dream home earlier this year.
He never spoke about it, so I figured he wasn’t going to do anything.
To my surprise, the whole time that I was whining and listening to you, my husband was doing the very thing that he told you he would.
Give me my heart’s desire if it was within reach.
” The look on my father’s face was priceless.
“Well…uh…he could’ve at least let you know so you wouldn’t be in the dark,” he retorted.
“Oh, James. Just hush. You’ve caused enough problems. I told you not to spoil these girls, but you did, anyway.
Quita can’t keep a man and you almost had Chi leaving the only one that was willing to deal with her.
You’re her father and that will never change, but you need to let Gabe be her husband.
This is proof that man loves your child just as much as you do…
if not more.” My mother was always the voice of reason.
That was usually the reason we didn’t want to come to her, because she wouldn’t side with us if we were wrong.
“Chiara, I just didn’t want him to do the same thing to you that Troy did. I may have gone about it the wrong way, but I was really trying to look out for you. You’re my baby girl…married or not.” He got up and hugged me and that’s when the tears started.
“I appreciate it, Daddy, but you have to realize that I need to make my own decisions when it regards my marriage. I forgave Gabe, as well as myself, and we’re working on getting back on track.
I need you to respect that. If you can’t, then I’ll see you on the outside.
” I meant what I said. I needed to focus on my marriage and not making my father happy.
My mother was right. I was his daughter…
not his wife, so regarding my marriage, I didn’t need his approval.
“I’ll try, baby girl,” he responded with a warm smile.
“Now, show me this house,” my mother gushed. I sat and showed her the pictures and she volunteered to go shopping with me. It felt good being in this place, but it felt better knowing I would be going home to a man that loved me just as much as I loved him.
When I got home, it was already dark. Gabe told me he was already at the new house, so that’s where I went. There weren’t any dishes here, so he ordered out and I was thankful. We showered and finished eating and now lying in bed.
“So, how did the visit with your parents go?” he asked.
“It went. My father tried to justify his actions, but my mother shut it down. I told him he had to respect my marriage, meaning he has to respect you, too. I wasn’t budging on that.”
“You didn’t have to go against your pops for me, Snook, but I appreciate it.”
“It’s the least that I could do after the way I’ve acted and treated you,” I voiced.
“We’re good, Snook. I promise.”
“I love you, Gabe,” I cooed.
“Tell me again.”
“I love you, Gabe.”
That night was the beginning of our fresh start, and I couldn’t have been happier. The road there was bumpy, but I’ll be the first to say it was worth it.
