Gabe
Chiara and the other ladies went inside of the kitchen while our mothers went into the playroom with the kids.
While they did that, the guys stayed back and chilled in the family room.
I still couldn’t stand Chi’s punk ass daddy, but he tried to clean his face.
I let the shit go for my wife and my son.
That was still his daughter and grandson.
“So, how’s business been going for you James?” My father asked, making conversation.
“I can’t complain. It’s always good when you can work for yourself and reap all the benefits and rewards.” Gary was the first to co-sign. I lifted my glass to signify that I co-signed the statement as well.
“How’s things been going for you and Gary?” he asked.
“Shits been great. We both can now relax a little bit and enjoy the fruits of our labor. I get to spend time with my wife and son and that’s all I could ask for.” He nodded in agreement. I felt eyes on me and when I looked up, my wife was staring at me. I gave her a wink and watched her melt.
“Those looks bring on babies,” I heard my father say.
“Who you telling?” Gary chuckled.
“I don’t mind one bit,” I countered.
We stayed and had a few more drinks and conversation until the ladies came and told us it was time to eat.
I took the baby from my mother and went to go lay him down.
More than likely, he would be down for the rest of the night.
We enjoyed each other, and it was almost midnight when we all stepped outside to watch the fireworks.
The sight and scene were perfect. I stood and thought about how much our lives had changed in the course of a year, and I was thankful.
I could’ve been on the road to divorce, but I thank God every day for saving my wife and my marriage.
Turning my wife around in my arms, I lifted her chin and gave her lips a sensual peck.
“I love you, Snook. I promise to never make you feel anything but the love I have for you and our son,” I vowed.
“I love you, too, Gabe,” she countered with tears in her eyes.
“Tell me again,” I voiced.
“I love you, Gabe, and I promise to never take your love for granted ever again.”
