Chapter 10
“Y ou know you're making it worse for me, by not telling me what's going on?” Maisie pouts at me as I massage my thumb into the sole of her foot. She’s sitting up in our bed and I can barely see her face over her huge stomach, but that’s alright by me.
The bigger she gets, the stronger our three little babies will be when they come.
“It ain’t nothin’ for you to be worryin’ about,” I tell her, shifting my body up the bed to lie beside her and resting my hand on her tummy.
“Come on, Garrett, you know I’m not stupid, and by you not telling me, I’m actually stressing about all the things that could be wrong. Leia was upset earlier, I could tell, and what with your mom show—” I place my finger over her lips.
“We promised we wouldn’t talk about her, remember?”
Maisie rolls her eyes and makes a bratty huff, and I can’t help the dirty thoughts inside my head. If she wasn’t in such a fragile state, I’d have her over my knee with her ass cheeks flushed.
“Is it about the wedding?” She proves she ain’t gonna give up on this.
“No,” I shake my head and smile when one of the babies fidgets under my palm.
“Did Wade tell Leia how he feels and now it’s awkward between them because she doesn’t like him back?” Maisie covers her mouth in horror.
“No. Well… not exactly.” I look up at the ceiling and blow out a breath when I start to get her point. Me not telling her what’s going on is only gonna make her worry more.
“Okay, so if I tell ya, you have to promise me you ain’t gonna meddle.” I can’t believe I’m about to tell her this, even though I know there's no way she’ll be able to keep that promise.
“I promise,” she snaps back at me, shifting into a more comfortable position and tossing her long blonde hair over her shoulders in preparation to hear what I’ve been keeping from her.
“Wade was gonna meet up with Leia last night and have the talk.”
“I knew it!” Maisie’s already getting far too excited, so I squeeze her hand in mine and remind her to relax.
“Only, it didn’t exactly go to plan and they ended up gettin’ drunk and fuckin’ instead.” I push that last part out real fast, hoping we can just move on, but I know that ain’t ever gonna happen.
I brace myself for a squeal or some form of it, but instead, I get silence. Her mouth has fallen open and I have to remind her to breathe.
“I need to speak to Wade.” She starts struggling to get up and I quickly drag her back.
“No, we’re letting them sort it out between themselves, we got enough to deal with.” My eyes drop to her stomach and I raise an eyebrow.
“Garrett, this is huge! Leia knows what Wade is like, she probably thinks she’s just another one of his conquests, she needs to know that she isn’t. He needs to tell her how he feels.”
“Baby, this is why I didn’t wanna tell ya. You're gettin’ too involved. Leia was the one that got spooked this mornin’ when they woke up together. I don’t know what's goin’ on but we have to let them sort it.”
“Wait, Leia was here today, she never mentioned it.” Now Maisie’s looking disappointed and all kinds of hurt, and this is exactly what I didn’t want. What is it about my wife that always has me going against my better judgment?
“Listen, darlin’, we don’t know what's goin’ through her head, and she probably didn’t tell ya for the same reasons I didn’t.
You gotta take care of yourself right now.
You and these babies are all that matter, just for a few more weeks, then you can meddle and interfere as much as ya like.
” I reach over her and kiss her lips, it’s been far too long since I tasted her.
Just as she starts to ease into me and relax, she quickly pushes me away and almost gives me a damn heart attack.
“So what happened earlier, why did she run out in tears?”
“That’ll be because Wade kissed her.” I scratch the back of my neck awkwardly. Ain’t no point holding anything back now.
“Wow, he’s really turning it on. No wonder he’s being so cagey. I’ll bet she’s just scared. I can’t see any other reason for her holding off on him. He’s handsome, funny, kind, and the way he takes care of her is—”
“How ‘bout we stop listin’ all the things ya like about my brother?” I cock my brow at her.
“Of course, he’s not a patch on you.” She laughs, running her fingers through my hair softly before gripping it tight and forcing my lips back onto hers.
“Steady, Mrs Carson, you're on a ban, remember?” I pull back and smirk at her. Yeah, it’s fuckin’ frustrating that the doc recommended we abstain until the babies come, but it’s necessary, and so it’s one rule this Carson won’t be breaking.
Maisie pulls that sulky face at me again, and I can’t help loving how pretty she looks when she’s desperate.
Since her pussy became the forbidden fuckin' fruit, it’s made me crave it even more.
“Lie back,” I tell her, stroking my hand between her legs and slipping my finger inside her cotton panties so I can massage her clit.
“Garrett…We haven’t finished talking about—” I turn her words into a gasp when I shift down the bed and replace my finger with my tongue. I may not be prepared to break the rules, but I’ll fuckin’ bend ‘em if it means keeping my wife happy.
I rest my palms on her stomach as I kiss, lick, and nip at her pussy, and the satisfied noises she makes, as she soaks my tongue, are more than a good enough reward.
It doesn’t matter what shit goes on around me, having her will always make it bearable.
Maisie hasn’t just changed my life, she fuckin’ flipped it on its axis, and now there ain’t a single thing I wouldn’t do for this woman.
Her thighs start to tremble and when her sweet little noises turn into moans, her hips buck like she’s ridin’ a fuckin’ saddle. I smile to myself as she comes all over my tongue and when I sit back on my knees and look up at her, the smile of satisfaction on her face suddenly turns stern.
“So, now are you gonna tell me what the family meeting you had without me was about today?” she asks, and I let out a sigh as move up the bed so I can wrap my arms around her. I’ve been waiting for this one.
“What famil—”
“Don’t lie to me, you all went into the office together and when Cole came out he smiled at me. He never smiles, unless he’s feeling guilty.” Maisie looks at me, daring me to lie.
“Jesus Christ.” I rub my temple with two fingers, “And you decided to wait ‘til after I made you come before ya brought this up,” I point out.
“I got mine.” She shrugs innocently. “Now tell me what I missed.” Those cute eyes of hers turn to stone.
“It was just about Mom. Wade went to see her at the guesthouse and she told him she wanted to explain herself. We took a vote and it was decided that we ain’t gonna let her,” I tell her matter of factly, hoping that’ll be the end of it. Hell, I should know better than that.
“The vote was invalid because I wasn’t there,” she tells me.
“That was taken into consideration, we counted your vote in favor of, which made the result a tie, but since I’m head of the family, I got to make the final decision,” I inform her, although it won’t be enough.
“Maisie, I don’t care what her excuses are, she left us when we needed her, and we don’t need her now. She’s just a stranger.”
“She gave birth to you, she carried you for nine months and believe me when I tell you, that is not an easy task.” Maisie widens her pretty, blue eyes, reminding me how tough this must be for her. These past few months have been really hard.
“People are different, Maisie, it takes a heartless person to leave four kids behind and never look back. I don’t care for her excuses, I don’t wanna go back to the past when we got the future to think about.” I rest my hand over that future, wondering how the hell anyone could be so selfish.
“I get that, but you should still hear her out.” Maisie rests her hand over mine and when I look up at her she smiles sadly.
“And if we’re getting technical about the vote, right now, I count as four, and we all say you should hear her out.
Whatever you do after that, we’ll stand by you.
You're a fair man, Garrett Carson, there aren’t many people you don’t give a second chance to.
Let your mom explain what tore her away from her children all those years ago, and find out what’s brought her back. Who knows, we could learn from it.”
I stare at my beautiful wife and wonder why God gave me such a gift.
“You know how much I hate it when you're right.” I shake my head at her.
“Almost as much as I love it when you're wrong.” She pulls at my jaw until I kiss her, and I’m not even ashamed to admit how weak she makes me, although when I tell Cole tomorrow that we’re hearing Mom out, I know he’s gonna throw it in my face.
