Chapter Twenty-One #2

“Now what were you saying?” she asked breathlessly.

“It’s hardly a private conversation anymore,” Marcus replied, exasperated as he looked around. “But I’m asking you to be my wife. I love you Red, and I want you to burn that contract and marry me.”

“You want me for keeps? Forever?” she asked, terrified that this was some kind of cruel misunderstanding. She’d heard that occasionally people went crazy in Vegas. Plenty of men wanted her, she was used to that, but no one ever wanted to keep her!

“Yes,” he replied, “with all my heart.”

For an award-winning author, his words were remarkably simple, but she saw the sincerity in his beautiful blue eyes, felt it in the tension of his grip. He loved her!

“Oh Marcus,” Susan sighed as she threw herself into his arms. “Yes, yes, you wonderfully perverted man. I’ll marry you.”

Marcus pulled her off her feet and kissed her as the crowd cheered him on. The officer smiled and shook his head as he went about his business. Not much surprised him in this city.

He should have waited and he may have been able to make an arrest after all for as soon as Marcus set her back on her feet, he scooped her into his arms and walked purposely toward the fountain.

“Marcus, what are you doing?” she cried, although she had a sickening feeling she knew. “These are nine hundred dollar shoes! How could you?”

“I know, I paid for them, after the boutique called for my approval,” he replied with a sigh, “and this suit cost four thousand dollars.”

“Oh. Marcus, please, you know I can’t swim!” she pleaded, her green eyes narrowing as her fists clutched his dripping jacket.

“It’s two feet deep, Red, you’ll live,” he said with a smile as he dropped her into the water.

Wow! Everyone loves a sweet, funny, romantic ending don’t they, sigh.

Of all the books I’ve written, this was one of my favorites. Gotta love Marcus’ sense of fair play, right?

Too bad that’s not the end of the story.

If you’re thinking that Susan and Marcus live happily ever after, think again. Or maybe you believe John and Erica simply remain good friends? Nope.

Terms of Surrender:

Hearts may be broken, dreams crushed. Who will win these battles of the sexes?

Marcus McCarthy, best-selling novelist, has finally found the woman of his dreams. Susan is one in a million, unconventional, sassy and a perfect companion for a man with a dominant but loving nature.

Frankly, he can’t believe his luck. Thinking their engagement is a done deal, he’s devastated and incredible angry when a blast from his past pulls the string that unravels it all.

John Braden has his sights set on Erica.

The uber-professional assistant at Sugar Babies isn’t at all what she seems. She has secrets, deep-seated remnants of her childhood that keep her emotionally isolated.

While she’s determined to find John a good match, he’s just as committed to winning her trust, and her love.

The lines are drawn, the challenges issued. Two men, two women, are battling for the right to love and be loved, without reservation. Will Marcus’ love and John’s determination be enough to claim victory?
