Chapter 17 #2

Heath: At Prickly Pear now. Be home in thirty.

I think I like him calling my apartment home more than I should. Playing house is seriously messing with my head, and the way he kissed me right after we heard our baby’s heartbeat isn’t doing me any favors.

I go inside, fanning myself as I climb the stairs.

God, why am I so turned on right now?

Just thinking about Heath is enough to spark a deep aching throb between my thighs.

I used to chalk up the idea of pregnancy increasing sex drive to a myth, but now I’m not so sure.

At this point, I’m collecting symptoms like Halloween candy—except instead of sweet treats, I have a season pass to the Tilt-A-Whirl with a side of nausea and fatigue.

Then again, if a heightened libido is part of the package, maybe it’s not so bad after all.

Heath said he’d be home in thirty minutes. That’s plenty of time for me to relieve this unbearable tension so I’m not a needy wreck when he gets back.

When I get to my room, I open the nightstand drawer and take out Betty.

She’s been my ride-or-die through plenty of lonely nights, post-game wallowing after shitty dates, and now these wild pregnancy hormones that have me ready to dry hump my pillow like a teenager.

I can always count on her to get the job done fast, and tonight I’m really counting on it.

My gaze shifts to the door, and I decide to leave it ajar so I can hear if Heath gets back sooner than expected.

Anxious to get out of my clothes, I peel off my T-shirt and toss it over the chair in the corner.

I unclip the pump from my waistband, careful with the tubing as I set it on the nightstand, then slide off my jeans and panties.

My bra is the last to go. I sigh in relief as my breasts are finally free from their confines.

They’ve become extra sensitive lately, and even the slightest brush of air makes my nipples harden instantly.

Betty in hand, I crawl to the middle of the bed and lie on my back.

A shiver runs down my spine as I push the tip inside myself, coating it with my wetness.

I groan as pleasure blooms at the intrusion.

It’s been months since Heath was inside me, but I’m soaked just imagining him sliding in and claiming me again.

A soft hum fills the air as I turn the device on.

The vibrations pulse through me, pulling a soft moan from me as they tease my entrance.

I let the sensation build, slowly rocking the small arm of the toy against my clit before spreading my legs wider and working the thick shaft deeper inside me.

My pussy clenches greedily around it with every inch.

My mind drifts to Heath kneeling between my legs, his hot tongue licking me until I was trembling.

His fingers pressed into the tender skin of my inner thighs, pinning me open with that delicious bite of pain as he sucked on my swollen clit.

I can almost hear his low growl, the one he made right before I shattered on his tongue.

The man has the stamina of a thoroughbred stallion. He fucked me senseless, recovered in minutes, and came back for round after round until I was hoarse from screaming his name and dripping with sweat and cum. It’s no wonder I ended up pregnant after only one night together.

I angle the small vibrating arm firmly against my clit, and a sharp jolt of pleasure shoots through me, knocking the air from my lungs.

“Oh, fuck, Heath.” I cry out.

Waves of heat roll through my core, winding tighter and hotter with every pulse. I thrust the main shaft deeper, a moan tearing from my throat as my climax builds—only to be ripped from my haze by the unmistakable sound of boots shuffling across the floor.

My heart slams against my ribs as I freeze mid-thrust, my eyes widening in shock when I see Heath standing in the open doorway. He’s leaning casually against the frame, his eyes blazing with lust as he shamelessly devours every inch of my naked body.

“You’re home early,” I say breathlessly.

“Heard you crying out my name,” he drawls, licking his lips. “Had to see what kind of trouble you were getting into without me.”

I prop myself up on my elbow, stealing a better look at him. His short-sleeved shirt clings to his biceps, the fabric stretching with every subtle flex. The way he tracks me with that piercing gaze makes every nerve in my body buzz with heightened awareness.

“I was hoping to take care of myself before you came home,” I confess.

His lips curve into a cocky smile. “Guess that was one hell of a kiss we shared earlier, huh?”

I playfully narrow my eyes. “It’s the pregnancy hormones. I’m so wet and achy all the time,” I groan, reminded of the vibrations still teasing at my entrance.

My cheeks turn flushed as I quickly pull Betty out and switch her off.

“We can’t have that now, can we?” Heath says, pushing off the doorframe and stalks toward the bed.

I slowly shake my head. I’m too far gone to vocalize what’s going on in my head, let alone to care that he’s here right now.

Hell, there’s a big part of me that’s relieved he walked in on me.

It’s allowed him to see that he does affect me the way I do him without having to say the inconvenient truth out loud.

“You ready to admit it, hellcat?”

“Admit what?” I whisper, playing oblivious.

“That you want me?” Heath stops at the side of the bed, staring down at me with unrestrained hunger. “That you’re ready to give us a real chance.”

I catch my lip between my teeth.

God, I want him so much it’s tempting to give in right here and now, but a small part of me is still holding back.

It’s one thing to commit to another night or a casual fling, but admitting I want him as my husband, as my true partner puts me at risk of this ending with a broken heart.

That I’ll end up like Grams, not only doing this alone but being crushed by a man who promised me the world and walked away anyway.

It’s hard shaking the belief that men never stick around, and that commitments and loyalty mean nothing to them. That strong women can handle anything by themselves, even when they shouldn’t have to.

But what’s the alternative? Staying stuck in limbo, resisting the pull toward Heath until he gets tired of waiting on me to come around? Especially when all he’s done the past few weeks is patiently support me.

“It’s all right if you’re still unsure,” Heath rasps out when I don’t answer. “I’d love nothing more than to remind you how good we are together.”

I instinctively start to close my parted thighs, but he tsks. “Keep those legs wide so I can remind you how beautifully you come apart for me.”
