Chapter 15
The youngest daughter calmly commanded that the oldest daughter “Cut the dramatics,” the other day.
In all actuality SHE would be the one with the right to make a statement like that since of our three children she is the LEAST dramatic.
Evidently by the time she was born the other two had taken extra-large portions of drama and there wasn’t any left for her.
Just after number three made her debut into the world our son was at his height where dramatic events were concerned.
He played ‘doctor’ with his two-year-old sister one morning while I was busy with the new baby.
Those child proof lids were heck on MY nerves, but he could dismantle an A-bomb with a feather.
So, he opened the brAND-NEW bottle and commenced to cure his sister of whatever malady she MIGHT have for the next decade or two!
THEN he came into the den with one hand on his stomach and the other on his forehead. “I’ve lied and now I’ve got to die for it!” he rolled his eyes up toward the ceiling.
“How many?” I asked.
He held up ten fingers, and I began to dial the doctor’s memorized number. His instructions were for ME to mix up something to make the child give me back however many he had eaten!
So, I stirred up three eggs in a glass and handed it to him with the instructions he was to go to the bathroom and drink it. Also, he was to KEEP drinking once he started. Sipping RAW eggs isn’t so hot!! And I don’t get BARF on the toilet seat, please.
“I don’t like it,” came the wail a few seconds later after the first SIP.
“How long do I have?” a moment after that.
“I’m not sure!” I yelled back.
“Come hold my hand,” he shouted.
“Oh, no! I didn’t hold it when you ate the pills and I’m not holding it now!”
A minute or two elapsed and I heard the nice sound of BARF, and a while later I found the EMPTY glass on the back of the potty.
“Will I make it now,” he asked.
He’s been a good deal more careful about PILLS since then. Amy changed “doctors” and has refused his medical advice and services. But the dramatics tend to go on in spite of Ginny’s commands! I wonder if MGM is hiring NEW child actors—
