Chapter 60

Originally Titled—Let There Be Light!

Something very drastic happened at our total electric house one night last week—the electricity went out!! I expect things like that to happen to other people, but certainly not to me, especially at NIGHT!

However, I know now why those Victorian castles had hard wood floors, because the next morning, I had the job of picking all that cold lumpy wax out of the carpet.

From this unnerving experience I learned that our new house has furniture capable of moving around from place to place, to trip me, corners that appear out of nowhere to bump into me, and that Ben-Gay is a fine product for relieving tired, aching muscles but it doesn’t do a thing for my teeth!

The next power failure may come at high noon on a sunny day, but I intend to be prepared! So, if I’m standing outside the store at five o’clock in the morning, you’ll know the flashlights are on sale and I’m going to be first in line.

If my house smells like a conglomeration of vanilla, bayberry and spice it’s because I’ve bought out the Davis supply of candles. And if there’s a shortage of matches at the local grocery store, you can be sure I’ve been there. After all, a candle isn’t worth much without a match!!
