Chapter 5 Unveiling Wen Ci
"Jiang Zhong, the person has been delivered."
I nodded and signaled for the man to leave.
He was cleaner than me, with dimples.
That day when Wen Ci was held by Han Zheng, I had not seen his face clearly. Now that I saw his front, the fire in my heart burned even stronger.
He was younger than me and whiter than me. His delicate face held no scars at all.
I touched the scar above my eyebrow. My fingertips burned hot.
This was the first scar I had let Han Zheng see.
Every time I went out, I tried my best not to injure my face. That time I failed to block it.
He had immediately guessed why Han Yiheng adopted me home. He ran to Han Yiheng's study to question him and received family punishment.
It hurt badly, yet he cried while comforting me. "Gege, compared to the wounds on you, this is already very light."
Since then he knew every one of my injuries.
In bed he always loved kissing these scars on my body. Sometimes he even shed tears.
But during the argument a while ago, he said the scars on my body were ugly.
The cigarette ash burned to my fingertip. I shook it off and untied the black cloth from Wen Ci's eyes.
He was truly clean, with eyes that were completely transparent.
Unlike me. My eyes were full of murky, bloody haze.
"You are Wen Ci?" I lifted his face.
"Who are you? What do you want?"
His stubborn expression reminded me of Han Zheng at thirteen, kidnapped by enemies. He held his face high and refused to beg for mercy.
Until I came to rescue him and got stabbed in the shoulder. He dropped to his knees with a thud and begged the man to let me go.
"Gege, you run. I'll just tell my dad you're dead." After we escaped, Han Zheng suddenly tried to wrench free from my hand.
I gripped tighter. I ignored him and kept pulling him forward.
"If it weren't for me, you wouldn't have to endure all this." Han Zheng's suppressed choking voice grew louder. Stubbornly he pressed on. "Gege, do you regret knowing me?"
I had turned Han Zheng into the Han family's heir. I had taken countless blades and shed endless blood for him. That was the first time he learned how I lived with my life on the line every day.
"Not at all."
I stopped and touched his eyes, which sparkled with fragmented light under the moonlight.
"It is my willingness."
"Han Zheng, I am willing."
...
"How much did Han Zheng pay you to pretend with him?" Pulling out of the memory, I looked at Wen Ci.
Wen Ci froze for a moment. "I... I don't understand what you're saying."
"Don't understand?"
I pointed the knife at his hand, which tightly clutched the corner of his clothes, and chuckled lightly. "Then why are you panicking?"
I had seen more of Han Zheng's doctors than he had. They would report any issue to me.
I had planned to leave this painful place for good and never return. But I still could not stop worrying about Han Zheng's health.
The last time I contacted the doctor, I asked him to watch over Han Zheng more carefully.
But with over ten years of experience reading people, it seemed the doctor was hiding something from me.
Under my questioning I finally learned that Han Zheng's heart had suddenly deteriorated. The previous updates saying everything was normal had all been forced by Han Zheng.
No wonder he had suddenly become perfunctory and cold a while ago. Harsh words came easily, grinding my heart into bloody holes.
Seeing he could not drive me away, he even staged this whole show for me.
All for such a cheesy reason.
So stupid.
"Don't worry. I won't retaliate against you." I sliced through the ropes binding Wen Ci. "Whatever he paid you, I'll double it. You can act with me too."
The idiot needed to be punished.
