Chapter 11
Silas
I’ve done a little recon on the mayor and I haven’t found anything of interest. He goes home alone at about ten every night from his office. That’s where he stays until around seven in the morning when he does this bullshit all over again. What kind of boring life does this man live?
I haven’t noticed anything out of the ordinary with him, and that doesn’t sit well with me. I need information, and I need to know who the fuck he’s talking to and why. I sigh as I sit back and spread my legs wide, resting my arm along the back of the chair next to me while Rylan and Levi talk a little. That’s when I see my Angel walking in. And she looks pissed.
I haven’t seen her in a few days. No, let me rephrase that: I haven’t let her see me in a few days. I’ve been there, sitting in the chair watching her sleep, and I find that’s one of my favorite things to do. I like that she doesn’t know I’m there when she’s dreaming of me.
“Where are they?” She snaps when she’s close enough for me to hear her.
“Where are what?” I ask casually.
“My journals, Silas. Where the hell are they?” she yells louder, getting looks from others sitting in the cafeteria. I don’t say shit; I just smile at her. “Give them to me.”
“I love it when you make demands of me, Angel.”
“I mean it. Stop playing games and give them back,” she yells again. I reach out and grab her hand, pulling her into my lap, where she fights me. I don’t let her get far, though. I clamp one of my hands down on her thigh tightly to get her attention. She yelps, but she stops moving.
“No one is playing games here, Angel. I told you, I’m going to do everything you’ve written about in those journals.”
“They’re personal, Silas. Not all of them are about that,” she tells me.
“Then I’ll skip over those parts.”
“I mean it. Just give them back. Please.”
“Oh, how I love it when you say please, baby. You feel that?” I ask her, pressing her down on my hardening cock.
“Silas, I’m serious.”
“So am I. I’m not done with them yet.”
“And I don’t want you reading all of them,” she snaps at me. Now I wonder what’s in there that she’s so worried about me reading. Is it another man? It doesn’t matter; now, I’m not even going to think about giving them back.
“Don’t worry, Angel. Your secrets are safe with me,” I whisper in her ear. I see the way her body trembles, and I love every second of it. If I didn’t have to deal with the fucking mayor bullshit, I would take her into the bathroom and remind her who the fuck she belongs to.
“I’ll call it all off, Silas.”
“Call what off?”
“This! All of this!” She snaps when I finally let her pull away and climb out of my lap. She crosses her arms over her chest, being as defiant as she can be as I look at her, taking her in.
“You want to end this?” I ask her, keeping my tone calm.
“If you don’t give them back, yes.” Now, I shove to my feet slowly and stand in front of her. She looks up at me, keeping her stone mask in place.
“I’m not giving them back. And good luck getting rid of me, Angel. I did kill for you,” I remind her. Her mouth parts, but words don’t form. I smirk and start to walk away from her when she grabs my arm to stop me.
“I mean it, Silas. I don’t want you to read them,” she tells me.
“What’s the matter, little Angel? Are you afraid I’ll go after your past lovers?” She shakes her head. What the fuck is in those journals I haven’t found yet?
“They’re private. They’re my thoughts and feelings, and I don’t want you to see that,” she says, keeping her voice down. Doesn’t matter what she wants. I’m going to find out what the fuck is going on in that head of hers. I lean closer to her face and smile at her.
“You’re mine, Angel. You belong to me and all my darkness now. Whatever is in those journals means nothing. Whatever you did in the past is done. The only thing you should be writing about now is me.”
“Silas, I mean it. Please let me have them back.”
“I’m not going to do that now that you’ve piqued my interest, baby.”
“What? What do you mean?”
“I mean, they are mine now. They belong to me the same as you do. What’s yours is mine, and what’s mine is yours.”
“Then give me your phone,” she huffs as if that’s a challenge. I slide my hand into my pocket and pull my phone out, pressing it into her hand. Then I tilt my head and watch her, waiting for her to make a move. She can check my phone all she wants. There isn’t shit on there.
When she doesn’t make a move to look through my phone, I take it back and slide it back into my pocket. She knows she’s lost right now. I won.
“Be a good girl until I come back,” I tell her, pressing my lips to hers. She doesn’t pull away but she also doesn’t kiss me back. That’s fine, too.
I walk away, leaving her standing there with anger in her eyes. I’m out the door and headed to my car, ready to get some more information.
I climb in and drive across town, pulling into the parking place and sighing. I know that I agreed to this shit, but it’s proving harder than I thought it would be.
I climb out and head inside Chaos to find Hunter. I find Hoax instead.
“Hey,”’ I say when I walk in and look around.
“Silas. Been a long time since I’ve seen you.” Hoax offers me a smile and his hand.
“I’ve been here. I don’t know where the fuck you’ve been,” I tell him.
“Out and about. What’s going on? Why are you here now?” he asks, a little confused since we usually come around when they have fresh meat that needs to be killed.
“I was looking for Hunter.”
“He’s not here. He went out on a hunt,” he replies with a grin. Fuck. I needed to talk to him, but maybe Hoax can help.
“What do you know about the mayor?”
“That he’s a sick piece of shit.”
“What do you mean?”
“From what I know about him, he’s into little girls. Not so much small kids, but girls just under legal age.” Fuck. He’s sicker than I thought he was.
“How do you know all this?”
“Dealt with him a few times before. I wanted to make him disappear, but Hunter shot that down.”
“Why?”
“He uses him for information. Not all of the girls he’s after are trafficked, but there’s been a few who have led us back to that.” I run my hand through my hair because now I’m going to have to get in the middle of Hunter’s business. “What’s this about?”
I glance around, but I don’t see anyone, and I know Hoax won’t say shit.
“I made a deal with Matt. I have to get rid of the mayor, but I need to find out who in the Kings is leaking him information first,” I admit to him.
“I’m going to say something you’re not going to like, Silas.”
“Which is?”
“Your dad has a lot of dealings with the mayor.”
“What do you mean dealings?” Now I’m intrigued. I wonder what the hell that means and if its possible it’s my dad who’s leaking information to him. I wouldn’t put it past him. I wouldn’t put it past any of the leaders because they’re all twisted and fucked in some way. They aren’t what the Kings were supposed to be. Not if what we’ve always been told about the Kings is the truth. We’re supposed to be united as one, and that couldn’t be further from the truth. The leaders are all out for themselves and that’s just how it is now.
“It’s your dad, man. I shouldn’t be telling you this,” Hoax says, scrubbing his hand over his face.
“It’s all good, Hoax. It goes no further than here.” He nods his head, knowing I wouldn’t do that shit to him. We’re all too close, like brothers.
“You know the chain stores your dad started up? Well, those weren’t accepted by the city. Your dad had to find a way around that in order to keep money coming in, right? So, who do you think fixed all that for him?”
“The mayor. At what cost?”
“That’s where things get uncomfortable, Silas.”
“What do you mean? Just tell me,” I snap, trying to get him to spit it out.
“Fuck. The mayor, Ron, got his hands on one of the princesses years ago. No one knows who it was. We can’t figure it out. He was promised he would get her once it was time for the ceremony.”
“That makes no sense. How did you find this out?”
“There were records of the discussion. A recording someone somehow got. I don’t know everything behind it or all the details, but I heard it. No names were mentioned.”
“And you haven’t been able to figure out which girl it was?” Hoax shakes his head, looking pissed at the thought of not finding out. “Why didn’t Hunter just kill his ass?”
“He wanted to. It took a lot for him to let that motherfucker live, but the more he reasoned it out, the more Hunter knew he could get out of him if he were alive. Since he’s dealt with this asshole, we’ve taken in over two hundred children.”
“Just from what he knows?” I ask, not sure I heard him right. That’s fucking insane.
“Yeah. The man is useful when need be.”
“Fuck, Hoax.”
“Listen. I don’t know what kind of deal you made, but I’m assuming it’s a big one if you need to take him out, Silas. If this means that much to you, we got your back, man. Don’t for a second think we don’t. Hunter will be on board, too,” he tells me. I nod my head.
“Thanks, Hoax. I just need to think this shit over. There’s so much I don’t know yet, and I need to find out,” I tell him.
“When it comes to your dad if you can’t handle it, let me know. I’ll take care of him if it comes down to him.” I fist-bump Hoax before walking back toward the door. I’m pissed. I’m annoyed, and I have no fucking idea what to do about any of this shit. What if it is my dad? Am I willing to kill him over this shit? Over the Kings? For Angel?
That’s an easy answer. Fuck yeah, I’d kill him for Angel.
